Chapter 36: It [4]

....

Arthur stared at the dark body, or at least, the remains of it.

Unsurprisingly, the body had faded into dark mist as soon as its head was separated from its neck.

The same thing that had happened with the last one.

"Before it went, it muttered something about just being a clone."

"But from it’s tone, it acted more like it was oblivious to the fact that it was, until it was decapitated that is."

He murmured.

He wasn’t sure if it was saying that because it actually realized it was a clone, or it was just at the futility of its effort and the fact that it truly was a clone.

He didn’t know.

The dagger that he had thrown at the man had been discarded some distance away from the alleyway, it wasn’t hard for him to track it.

"Is this really a cloning spell?"

Arthur couldn’t help but wonder.

If it was, it could be a problem. Giving the clones substance and allowing them to act on their own.

Not only that, but they acted on their own, meaning they didn’t need orders from the lead body. Wherever the lead body was in the first place, that is.

And, to top it all off, it was the first cloning spell to exist.

"A spell like this would obviously be master-ranked...."

He left the alleyway, heading back in the direction of the Academy.

’The only thing left is to blame it all on that man.’

The professor who had been following him.

While using his spell was reckless in such a situation due to the questions that he would receive earlier, there was no doubt that he would be able to pin all the blame on the other professor later, that was why he did it.

His sudden disappearance could be blamed on that professor, he had also tried to kill a student and the second princess. It wouldn’t be too hard to make people believe that.

’I’ll also have to look into him.’

The professor.

He would have to know who he was, his background, and basically everything else.

Arthur quickly arrived at the Academy.

He explained his situation, how the professor that had been running was responsible for trying to kill the second princess, and how he mysteriously vanished from the Academy.

But of course, the guards didn’t believe him.

Instead, the guard took him to the Headmaster’s office.

"Arthur, please sit down."

She greeted as he entered.

A guard followed after him.

Her expression didn’t change in the slightest, almost as if she was blissfully unaware of what had happened.

"What happened?"

However, she wasn’t. The headmaster, the one in charge of the Academy, couldn’t be ignorant on those matters.

The guard kept silent.

’So they already reported it from their point of view.’

Now, she was waiting for his side of the story.

"The professor that I was chasing after, he had been following me since I arrived today. And then later, Ezra Ashborn and Roselyn Aurelion, both first years, reported to me that he had tried to attack them with a spell.

When I went to him for questioning, he darted through the window and I went after him. After he got away, he used some kind of spell to bring me to him, I managed to escape before he could any real damage though."

He said everything at a moderate pace.

Since he wasn’t sure that he was the one that was being asked at first, he had kept quiet at first, so it didn’t seem like he had made all of this up because he expected the question.

The headmaster frowned.

She stared at him for a few moments before abruptly turning her head up.

"Leave, now."

She ordered the guard, her tone serious.

’Serious?’

That didn’t seem like something the headmaster was capable of.

She always had that laid back attitude. Now, however, she was acting like a real headmaster.

"What kind of magic did he use against the students?"

"Ashborn said it was some kind of invisibility spell, he had only managed to detect it because there was a flicker."

"Hmm."

She fell into deep thought.

"Shou—"

"You can leave."

Arthur got up from his seat and left without saying a word.

’It must be serious.’

It was, after all, trying to harm a member of the royal family was punishable by death. Execution, to be precise.

If she had been killed, the headmaster would have been held responsible.

’Either way, I’ve successfully pitted them against him.’

For a good lie you had to put truths and lies together to create a half-truth.

That was what he had done.

He ran a hand through his hair as he returned to his office.

"You’re still here?"

Arthur questioned as he saw them.

Both, Roselyn and Ezra were in his office. Since they had nothing to do, they were planning rock and scissors.

Maybe they even made a bet.

Ezra glanced up at his voice while Roselyn froze like a thief.

"You didn’t tell us to leave, so we thought it would be better to wait until you’re back."

Arthur shrugged it off.

"You can leave now. I don’t have anything to ask."

The boy stood up, walking in the direction of the door. As he left, both of them exchanged a brief glance.

"Roselyn."

"Yes?"

She had regained herself and glanced his way when he spoke.

"You’re still the same as ever...."

He murmured quietly to himself.

Then, he added a little more louder.

"Even though I said it would be fine, you should still be vigilant."

"He got away?"

"He used some kind of magic so he managed to get away."

"Ce...."

"I can’t separate it, but I’m dealing with it tonight."

He only needed to get some information on the man, immediately after he would track him down. And end him if necessary.

"No, its Celestine, I haven’t seen her since she went for her first class."

Roselyn said.

Arthur said nothing in response for a while.

"I’m sure she’s fine."

....

Ethan Ross.

Arthur hated him. He hated him so much that he could feel his blood boiling.

Though he wasn’t the professor that was taking Celestine in her only Friday class.

But then, Arthur was sure he was involved.

’He took her.’

Now it there was no need to even question it, she was gone. Roselyn hadn’t seen her since morning, that was hours ago.

He had called.

Everywhere.

Yet, she wasn’t there. Neither was Ethan Ross, the man that had been stalking him since he had arrived in the Academy.

He had even gone to interrogate the professor in her class, he had gotten nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

And it pissed him off to no limit.

"Fucking...."

Even now, in his office felt like time was being wasted.

"Fucking...."

Even now, it felt like time was being wasted.

"Fucking...."

Even now, the time that he used to curse felt like it was wasted.

"I will kill him!"

Even if Celestine was unharmed, that man would meet his end.

Before, Arthur was hesitant on killing him, but now there was no doubt in his heart that he would murder the man in cold blood.

However, he couldn’t currently.

Ethan Ross had obviously kidnapped taken her to be used as leverage, in other words she was a hostage.

Since he had tried to kill a member of the royal family, an offense punishable by execution, he would need someone to bargain with.

So, Arthur was waiting for it.

That call.

The one that told him to come alone, without telling anyone where he was coming.

That one.

"Fucking...."

It hadn’t come yet, and he was seemingly stuck in a loop of cursing.

Finally, it came.

The person calling was unknown.

"Where is she?"

He didn’t need to pretend that he felt rage. He truly felt that.

I don’t have much time.

But, if you want to see Celestine Vaelthorne again.

I only need you to meet me at [XOXO] this night.

Do not bring anyone with you or she will die, I can at least promise you that.

The caller hung up.

"Finally."

He knew who it was.

The only difference between what he expected was that he never asked for a ransom.

He had only asked Arthur to come.

Arthur, on the other hand, had a blank expression as he said those words.

"Finally...."

It was going to be a long wait. But, he would bare it.

Plus, there was no doubt that he would be satisfied with how things turned out.

He was going to make sure of that after all.

That was a promise.

Not only to himself, but to Celestine as well.
