Chapter 56: 056 Waiting for the second update

Li Xianglu furrowed her brows and asked, "What kind of pain is it? Did you twist it?"

Mr. Li shook his head and said, "No, it’s just that I have been using my knees too much, squatting up and down too often. I have rheumatism in my knees, and it flares up like this when I strain it suddenly."

Li Xianglu frowned and said, "Then let’s have Uncle Qin next door take a look. It’s not good to keep hurting like this."

As she spoke, she hurriedly ran out, calling out to Mr. Li behind her but receiving no response.

Coincidentally, the Qin family three were just about to go to work when they saw Li Xianglu rushing out of the courtyard.

Qin Xi was the first to speak: "What’s the matter?"

Li Xianglu took a deep breath and said, "It’s Grandpa, his knee is uncomfortable, and it hurts a lot. I want to ask Uncle Qin to come and take a look."

Upon hearing it was Grandpa Li, Qin Xi also grew anxious and looked towards his father.

Qin Shouren, who usually had a good relationship with Mr. Li, nodded upon hearing of his discomfort and told his son, "You go first, let the team leader know, I’ll come soon."

Qin Xi nodded and took Qin Zhen with him.

Qin Shouren didn’t go straight in but went back to get a medicine box before coming over.

When Mr. Li saw Qin Shouren, he said helplessly, "Ah, I already said it’s nothing serious, but this girl insisted on having you check it."

Qin Shouren glanced at Li Xianglu, who made room for him, and smiled, "Your granddaughter is just worried about you. Besides, at your age, it’s better to be cautious. It’s good to treat any issue early."

Qin Shouren professionally had Mr. Li stretch out his leg, then tapped on the knee joint and several other acupuncture points before saying, "Hmm, it’s just fatigue, the knee joint is a bit strained. Rest it for a few days, start with a cold compress, then after 24 hours switch to a warm compress, it will slowly get better. If you have medicinal liquor, that’s great. Rub it whenever you can, it will relieve a lot during rainy days."

Medicinal liquor? Li Xianglu’s gaze flickered; she had several bottles in her storage ring, not sure when she stored them there.

Mr. Li sighed, "There’s none in our county, I’m afraid. We’ll need to find a way to get some."

After telling Mr. Li to rest more and not move around too much, Qin Shouren left for the fields.

Li Xianglu applied a simple cold compress using water from the storage pond to Grandpa Li, and after making him comfortable, she went to the small garden. She dug up half a basket of seedlings and then went alone to the fields.

There were two patches left, just some eggplant and chili seedlings. She could finish planting them alone in one afternoon.

As Li Xianglu left the yard and turned towards Lower Ridge, she saw a grey figure standing there, with two small braids at the back and a slender figure that couldn’t be concealed even by the loose clothes.

Just as Li Xianglu came down, the figure turned around, giving her a big start—it was Qin Miao.

Though shocked inside, Li Xianglu maintained a composed expression on her face; she did not recognize the girl in front of her, so she treated her as a stranger and kept walking straight ahead—one step, two steps, three steps.

"Are you Li Xianglu?" The voice was as pleasant as an oriole’s, but it instantly reminded Li Xianglu of the screams from that night, sending a chill down her spine.

Turning around, she looked over in confusion: "Who are you?"

The girl felt relieved seeing Li Xianglu’s puzzled expression and said: "You don’t recognize me? We attended literacy classes together. We were classmates." Pulling connections!

Li Xianglu looked up thoughtfully and suddenly realized: "Oh, right, you’re that person. What’s it again...?"

The young girl’s face stiffened, and after blinking, she explained: "My name is Qin Miao. I’m glad to know you." Extending her hand as she spoke.

Li Xianglu shyly stepped back: "Right, sorry, I have a bad memory. I remember you were always reciting poetry."

The girl withdrew her hand, cursing inwardly, ’Country bumpkin, doesn’t even know how to shake hands.’ But her face remained smiling as she said: "How old are you anyway? You look younger than me, right?"

Li Xianglu replied bashfully: "I’m fifteen, just can’t put on weight which makes me look younger."

The girl raised an eyebrow, looked at Li Xianglu’s chest briefly, noticing how petite she was, and with a dismissive expression that flashed past, she offered warmly like an elder sister: "Yes, a year younger than me. You should call me Sister Qin from now on. If you have any girl stuff you want to talk about, you can always come to me."

Seeing her acting all familiar, Li Xianglu inwardly scoffed, but her face showed surprise: "You don’t have a younger sister?"

Qin Miao suddenly felt defeated. Usually, her way of talking worked wonders. She’d call younger girls ’little sister’ and take on an elder sister’s caring persona, or, with older girls, she’d sweetly call them ’elder sister’ and tell them how she wished she had one. Most girls naturally have an aversion to the same gender, but this decreases when sisters are mentioned. She didn’t expect this girl to be so silly, not understanding a thing she said.

Seeing Qin Miao speechless, Li Xianglu felt relieved and somewhat embarrassedly said: "Sorry, I need to go work in the fields."

She was about to move forward when Qin Miao quickly tried to grab her, but Li Xianglu had already moved away swiftly; Qin Miao had to jog a few steps to keep up, anxiously asking: "What’s the rush? Aren’t you registered as an urban resident now? What work do you need to do?"

Li Xianglu’s expression turned cold as she replied indifferently: "That’s none of your business."

Seeing Li Xianglu’s suddenly stern face, Qin Miao halted her steps.

Li Xianglu didn’t want to tangle with such people and started walking away.

Qin Miao stood there watching Li Xianglu’s receding figure, glaring intensely for a long time before stomping her foot angrily and turning to leave.

Meanwhile, Li Xianglu had arrived in the fields and started busying herself. She had the original owner’s memories; the original owner often helped in the family vegetable garden and was quite adept with her hands.

Li Xianglu’s field was next to a plot belonging to a family of strangers. In the morning, a strange middle-aged man was tilling the land, but now it was a girl about her age planting seeds there, seemingly corn kernels.

Li Xianglu took out a large bottle of orange fruit beverage from the storage ring, stealthily going over to drink from it whenever she felt tired. The other girl also sat at the edge of the field, drinking water from a bottle she brought, resting. By the afternoon, they had finally finished planting all the vegetable seedlings, and they could water them later.

However, there were still over twenty round eggplants and chili seedlings left in the basket; it was a pity to waste them, so Li Xianglu waved to the girl in the vegetable garden.

The girl saw Li Xianglu waving at her and looked confusedly at herself, Li Xianglu nodded, indicating she was indeed calling her.

When she reached the edge of the field, Li Xianglu could see clearly; this girl was quite tall, about 167cm, and much sturdier than herself, but her skin was dark. Seeing Li Xianglu, her face turned red and she said somewhat embarrassedly: "You were looking for me?"
