Chapter 84: Someone’s Always Lurking (1)

Everyone in the council watched on with their mouth open except A’Mila, who had a smile. Silka was the weakest member of the council, but they hadn’t expected her to lose against Adrian in such a pathetic manner.

On top of that, Adrian also proved that he wasn’t much weaker than them, and he endured their mistreatment only because he was at fault.

The council recognised that Adrian had done plenty to earn forgiveness for his small mistake, as anyone from outside wouldn’t endure their abuse while assisting them willingly.

Had Adrian truly been against them, he could have just sided with Malachi and caused trouble from within the tribe.

This would have made them vulnerable to Malachi’s attack, setting the prisoner, including himself, free. But Adrian chose to help them, going against his kind and doing what was right for the tribe.

That alone was enough to win over the tribe. Adrian should have been treated as a hero, but under Silka’s influence, they couldn’t see him as anything more than an evil being causing havoc.

Prior to the chaos brought by Malachi’s invasion, A’Mila had uncovered the source of the rumours about her- it was Silka, attempting to take her position as Matriarch.

Silka and her little gang of underlings had been spreading rumours about A’Mila and how she was unfit to run the tribe. While it didn’t have much effect initially, Silka got the perfect opportunity to strike A’Mila down following Adrian’s rampage.

As she was the weakest among the council members, it would take Silka a long time to reach the Matriarch’s position if she followed the regular route.

However, if she did something big like turning the people against the current leader and making her step down, Silka would win the public’s favour and reach the top easily, which she had been trying to accomplish using her gang and rumours.

’She tried so hard and got so far,’ A’Mila mused. ’But in the end, it didn’t even matter. Tsk, what a shame.’

Since A’Mila knew about her betrayal, she didn’t hold back and allowed Silka to ’teach’ Adrian, knowing he would be the one teaching her.

However, even A’Mila hadn’t expected him to make a show of it. Still, she was glad he did, as it was the most effective way to undermine Silka’s limited influence in the council without getting her involved.

"Does anyone want to teach my servant a lesson?" A’Mila asked the council, fully aware that no one would accept her offer.

She only made the offer to rub salt on Silka’s wounds as she got up and silently took her seat without saying a word.

Adrian felt relieved when nobody accepted A’Mila’s offer because he wasn’t ready to face them yet.

He only took Silka on because he was aware of her stats and abilities. After the berserking incident, his stats had improved greatly, and he stood around Silka’s rank. That coupled with the bonus from Sloth, Adrian was confident he could take her on, so he did.

’It felt good to let out my anger, but I didn’t want to make enemies of everyone on the council. Luckily, A’Mila stepped in and calmed things down. Otherwise, my little outburst could’ve landed me in big trouble.’

"Back to the topic," A’Mila clapped twice to gain everyone’s attention. "What are we going to do about the Tulkas?"

They were back to square one with no answers until Adrian stepped up. He was an analyst, so obviously, he would have a plan ready to go.

"Since they wanted to spy on us, it’s only fair we do the same, don’t you think?" he said.

"But how do we do that?" someone asked. "The Tulkas already know about us, so fooling them won’t be easy-"

"I ain’t talking about the tribe," Adrian responded. "I don’t mean to be rude, but as good as you all are in fighting, none of you are cut out to be a spy.

He continued, "Even if you give it a shot, the enemies would have their guns aimed at you before you finish answering’ the first question."

Adrian’s words left the council members looking away in embarrassment as they scratched their heads, looking down at their feet. It was true that the Banurs lacked skills beyond what was necessary for survival. Acting as a spy was nearly impossible for them.

But someone needed to step up to the occasion. Just like always, Adrian had everything covered.

"I’ll do it."

"No, you won’t," A’Mila immediately fired back.

Adrian was someone important to Vesper, making him someone important to her. There was no way A’Mila would allow Adrian to walk into the lion’s den alone.

While A’Mila was thinking about Adrian’s proposal from a place of love and compassion, the rest of the council was doing it logically, and it didn’t take long for them to realise that Adrian was the perfect choice for such a mission.

First, he was an outsider well-versed in Nexarian knowledge. He could say he was a slave or, even better, a member of Malachi’s army who barely escaped from the Banurs.

The tribe could pitch in and act out the role to make sure any Tulka spies in the forest would see and confirm it. But even if they did all that, there was a high probability that the Tulkas would definitely view Adrian with suspicion initially and might even lock him up as a prisoner.

But knowing them, they won’t kill him because, for Tulkas, information meant everything, and Adrian would be like a gold mine for information for them.

More importantly, Adrian wasn’t a part of the tribe, so even if he died, no one would bat an eye apart from A’Mila and Akila. So it won’t be a loss for them.

Adrian smiled, noticing the gears spinning in their minds. While he portrayed himself as a willing sacrifice, his true intentions weren’t as noble as he led them to believe.

While he was going to Tulkas to spy, he wasn’t doing it solely for the tribe. Considering the tribe’s relationship with the Nexarians, some might have been stationed at the Tulka’s settlement.

’I’ve been cut off from news from that side, which isn’t good. I need to know what’s happening in Nexaria. At the same time, I have to upgrade the codex so I can absorb more organs and grow stronger without having to make sacrifices.’

Before anything else, Adrian had to persuade A’Mila to let him go, and he had the perfect plan to achieve
