Chapter 79: [Weekly Bonus Chapter 1/3] A Familiar Face (1)
[The entity, Sin of Greed, eagerly watches the fight, asking the other entities to place a wager.]
[The entity, Sin of Sloth, is annoyed to be awoken by the noise to watch a measly fight.]
Unaware of their benefactor’s doing, Akila and Malachi transformed into demonic forms. But as they did, their demeanours changed completely.
Akila, who had been mindful of his attacks, went berserk, blinded by his greed for revenge and victory. Meanwhile, Malachi, who had been provoking Akila into a fight, slouched and yawned as if he craved nothing more than a nap right then.
Akila launched himself at Malachi with surprising aggression. There were no unnecessary movements from him, and his attacks were quick and precise, showing off his insatiable greed.
On the other side, Malachi fought lazily, his movements sluggish and seemingly careless. Despite that, he successfully dodged Akila’s attacks with surprising ease, almost as if Akila was moving slowly for him.
But soon, even dodging became too much work for Malachi, and he simply stood there blocking Akila’s attacks with one hand while the other rested on his mouth as he yawned. His eyes were barely opened, and he kept dozing off, but still, Akila couldn’t hurt a hair on his head.
Akila proceeded to take wild swings at Malachi. If precision wasn’t having any effect, then he would dominate Malachi with sheer strength. However, Malachi, in his slothful demeanour, effortlessly sidestepped the attacks, using minimal effort to save himself.
Akila tried to grapple the slouch to restrict his movements. But even that yielded a disappointing result as Malachi slipped away from his arms in his lazy grace.
"FIGHT LIKE A MAN!" Akila yelled, but Malachi couldn’t be bothered to reply and yawned instead.
As the fight wore on, Akila’s greed-driven onslaught began to take a toll on him. His movements became more erratic, and his strikes lacked the precision they once had, giving Malachi ample time to react and capitalise on Akila’s weaknesses he had observed during their fight.
Akila swung again, expecting Malachi to defend himself. Surprisingly, the Vassal of Sloth took the hit.
Yet, as Akila had been recklessly throwing punches, his attack didn’t pack the punch it once did. In contrast, Malachi, having conserved his strength, felt little effect from the attack.
[The entity, Sin of Greed, sighs, unimpressed by his Vassal’s performance.]
[The entity, Sin of Sloth, yawns, hoping she’ll get her beauty sleep soon.]
[The entity, Sin of Lust, snorts, saying, what beauty is she talking about?]
[...a quarrel breaks down amongst the entities.]
Akila tried yet again, but Malachi sidestepped one of Akila’s wild swings and delivered a powerful blow to the face. Akila stumbled backwards, caressing his face as he got caught off guard by the unexpected speed and efficiency of Malachi’s counterattack.
That was the point when everything changed. Malachi suddenly let go of the laziness and began repeatedly attacking Akila. The latter managed to dodge and block initial strikes, but with every attack he blocked, the next one became quicker and more forceful.
The Vassal of greed, now exhausted, struggled to maintain the intensity of his assault and had to go defensive. Taking advantage of his exhaustion, Malachi suddenly dropped and tripped Akila with a leg sweep.
Akila tried to get up, but Malachi wasn’t slouching anymore and pinned him down with his leg. Akila, seething with anger, stared at Malachi with a burning intensity. The greedy demon within him refused to accept the loss... until Akila returned to normal.
"You’re a demon like me, I’ll give you that," Malachi scoffed, his demonic aura dissipating. "But you lack the experience to beat someone of my calibre."
Malachi’s rapier materialised in his hands, shaking violently as if it was saying something.
"Be patient, my dear," Malachi grinned, running his tongue along the blade. "His abilities will soon be yours. But you must understand that a delicious meal should be enjoyed slowly. You must savour every moment."
Saying so, Maalchi swung his blade, slashing Akila across his chest. The tribals, seeing this, rushed to save him, but with a swing of his sword, Malachi severed multiple heads in an instant, and his blade rapidly consumed them all.
"You motherfucker!" Akila yelled and promptly received a kick for it.
"What a foul mouth," Malachi mumbled. "It must be stuffed before you use any other profanities."
Malachi stabbed Akila in the injured shoulder, slowly twisting it to ensure maximum pain. Meanwhile, the few remaining Nexarians took advantage of the situation and freed the soldiers who had surrendered moments ago. The tide of the battle had changed, and it was all thanks to Malachi.
Akila tried to fight back, but Malachi stepped forward and pinned his arm down with his leg. Even then, Malachi could feel Akila’s attempt not to give up the fight. Despite the toll demonification had taken on him.
Malachi was surprised. He couldn’t imagine how someone who had been through all that could still have so much fight left in him. It was the first time Malachi felt genuine respect for someone.
"It is an honour to kill you with my hands, brave warrior," he said, bowing his head slightly.
The Nexarian raised the rapier, ready to deal the final blow and end the fight. However, someone appeared between them out of nowhere, blocking the rapier with a broadsword.
Stunned by this unexpected interference, Malachi looked up to see Adrian standing there. His mouth fell open in disbelief. There was no way he wouldn’t recognise that face, even if his body had changed a lot.
Malachi was so surprised to see a hero there that his sword slipped from his hands. Adrian was supposed to be dead. How was he standing before him?
Before he could utter a word, a mighty arrow struck him, and the impact blew away his sword arm. A’Mila stood at a distance, notching another arrow. A loud war cry echoed as the council arrived to fend off the invaders.
The soldiers panicked and made a break for it. However, they couldn’t go far as the beasts they had angered before came charging right at them. Soon, the area was drenched in the blood of foes and allies alike.
