Chapter 65: [Weekly Bonus Chapter 2/2] Minotaur’s Bane (1)

The forest was pitch black at night, making it hard even to see one’s fingers. Wolves howled in the distance. Red had been walking for almost an hour, but the edge of the forest was nowhere in sight.

"Fucking hell. I can’t see a thing here," Red mumbled as he walked through the shadows of the trees looming overhead. "I need to find a Nexarian camp before one of the tribes finds me..."

Having taken his revenge, Red had no other reason to stay in the land of barbarians. He had heard about the vicious punishments the tribals gave to those who ventured into their lands, and Red had no interest in suffering at the hands of vicious morons.

That’s why he was looking for a Nexarian outpost. In his current state, stripped and covered in grime, pretending to be one of the tribes’ runaway slaves was a simple way to seek help from them and find his way back to Nexaria.

"I might have to play it cool and hope nobody spots me, but yeah, I’ll be safe once I locate an outpost," Red murmured as he climbed a tree to figure out his direction. "It’s a shame they don’t share outpost info openly now. But what’s someone like me can do about it?"

In the beginning, when the tribals and Nexarians got along, details about outposts, like where they were and what facilities they had, were shared openly as the sovereign of Nexaria hoped to attract tourists to the region.

However, things went wrong when war erupted between the Nexarians and the tribals. As the tribals captured more and more Nexarians, the citizens spilt the beans about the outposts in exchange for their lives.

The leak was the prominent reason why most of the bases were wiped out within days, and it was decided the locations of the outposts were never revealed to the public.

In other words, if someone accidentally stumbled into the forests, they were on their own to try and find an outpost.

As Red climbed down, he heard the rustle of the leaves and stopped. It felt like someone was watching him. He turned, his eyes scanning the trees around, but saw nothing.

’... I’m being paranoid.’

Red chalked it up as some random beast and kept moving. Then, a twig snapped behind him, and Red knew he wasn’t alone. Gripping his metal claws, he readied himself for a fight.

Yet there was no one in sight.

Just then, something shiny above a tree caught his eyes. Something or someone was sitting on the branch of a tree, its eyes fixated on him. A silvery sword in its hand, ready to jump and kill his target.

Before Red could do anything, a shadow descended from above, and Red rolled away just in time, narrowly avoiding the attack. As he turned to face the threat, there was nothing there.

"Who the hell is out there!?" Red exclaimed, his panicked eyes darting in every direction.

But while he was busy looking above him, someone kicked him in the midsection, sending him flying. Red scrambled up, and that’s when he saw him - Adrian, covered in blood but alive.

Red blankly stared at him. He knew what he was seeing but couldn’t believe it. How could anyone survive after their heart was ruptured? But there he was, standing before Red with bloodshot eyes that glowed in the dark.

"You’re one oversized cockroach, aren’t you?" Red scoffed as he got over the initial shock. "No matter how many times I kill you, you keep popping up like a stubborn boner."

Adrian might have dodged death again. But it didn’t mean anything. After his fight with the Chimaera, he was confident in his ability and knew he could take Adrian down no matter how many times he got up alive.

Red lunged forward, slashing with his metal claws, aiming for Adrian’s chest. But Adrian disappeared from his sight, only to reappear behind him, grabbed his head and slammed it into the ground.

Blood gushed out of Red’s nose like a broken faucet, disorienting him. Before Red could understand anything, Adrian grabbed the fingers of his hands and ripped them apart from the middle.

Red screamed, but Adrian stomped on his head like Red had done to him. Red tried to claw his leg using his other arm. He hit the mark, but nothing happened because the Ogre’s skill patch protected Adrian.

Pissed, Adrian grabbed Red’s hair, pulling him closer so he could look into his eyes. But the next moment, Red spat a mist-like substance in Adrian’s face, prompting the Chimaera to drop him involuntarily.

Without a second thought, Red tried to run away from there. He couldn’t understand what was going on, but the person he was facing now was entirely different from the one he believed he had killed.

A couple of minutes later, Red arrived at the forest’s edge. He was mere inches away from freedom when someone grabbed him.

"Where do you think you’re going?" Adrian’s hoarse voice echoed in Red’s ears as he looked back at him as Adrian threw him back inside the forest. "You’re not leaving this place before you tell me who paid you to kill me."

At that moment, Red understood there was no saving himself. Still, he couldn’t just sit back and let the bastard have his way with him. Once again, he tried to attack Adrian, taking advantage of the darkness surrounding them.

However, just before his claw was about to swipe away Adrian’s neck, the latter easily dodged the attack and ripped off the Red’s leg with sheer strength. The Raven howled in pain as it stumbled down and fell.

"You’re gonna talk now, or shall I rip your body into pieces?" Adrian snarled, grabbing Red’s remaining leg.

"D-Do your worst..." Red replied, letting out a bloodied smile.

"Have it your way," Adrian shrugged and ripped off the man’s remaining leg.

Red howled in pain and tried to crawl away using his hands, but before he could get far, Adrian pinned his remaining hand with his leg. But even in that situation, Red couldn’t help but laugh.

"Kill... me if you want..." he mumbled weakly. "But remember... I already killed you twice..."

Adrian remained expressionless, wondering what the heck Red was talking about.

"Do whatever you want... but you’ll always be... Victor’s creation, not a human but a monster..."

"Is that all?"

"A monster... yeah... only a monster could evade death like... you do... HAHAHA..."

Adrian sighed. It seemed Red had lost his mind. In other words, he was useless to him now. Adrian raised the sword to kill Red but felt a sharp pain in his chest.

"Not... yet..." Adrian gritted his teeth as the Minotaur’s heart began beating rampantly in his chest.

But despite trying his best not to lose consciousness, Adrian couldn’t do it and collapsed on his knees.
