Chapter 63: [Weekly Bonus Chapter 1/2] Despair (2)
Red was surprised that Adrian didn’t dodge as he had before, even when he could have and allowed Red’s metal claws to sink into his shoulder. However, in the next instant, Red understood Adrian’s plan.
"A hit for a hit," Red mumbled and the next moment, Adrian took his shot at him.
He swiftly slashed Red across the chest. Red managed to leap back just in time, narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal blow. Instead, he got away with a mere flesh wound. But the strike was too close for Red’s comfort, and he immediately kicked Adrian away.
"Tsk, I almost had you," Adrian clicked his tongue as he got back to his feet.
Red didn’t see it coming, but everything was happening just like Adrian wanted. Even when Red dodged his attack, it was all part of Adrian’s plan.
"You did... and that’s the closest you’ll ever get to defeating me," Red replied, licking the blood from his chest wound before looking at Adrian’s wound and he realised it was already healing. "How the hell..."
Red was confident he had left a deep wound on Adrian’s side. But when he checked, the wound was almost completely healed. Not only that wound, but each punch or claw strike he inflicted on Adrian slowly vanished before his eyes.
’One final push and the bastard would be at my mercy,’ Adrian thought as he looked behind Red and found a weird creeper plant there.
Red probably didn’t know about that plant, but Adrian did. He remembered Yellow Musk well, also called Yellow Death. It was the only natural plant that had ever killed one of the heroes.
When a creature comes within ten feet of the creeper, it can animate vines and roots into natural syringes and entangle unsuspecting prey to siphon off their blood.
There’s no hope of escaping once it has wrapped the vines around the target. Usually, such plants were weak to fire, but not the creeper. The only way to kill the damned thing was by offering a sacrifice and cutting its root while they were busy drinking the target’s blood.
Unfortunately for Red, no one would save him once the creeper took hold of him, and that’s precisely what Adrian wanted to do.
’I hoped he would jump straight into the creeper’s attack range, but that didn’t happen.’
Thankfully, Red was dazed and was busy processing Adrian’s extraordinary healing capabilities. It gave Adrian time to come up with a plan to push Red towards the creeper.
"You should always keep your eyes on your opponent!" Adrian yelled before using his sword as support to jump and kick Red across the face.
"You should heed your own advice once," Red replied.
But things didn’t go as planned when Red grabbed Adrian’s leg and slammed him onto the nearby tree. The impact was so vicious that the tree almost snapped in half from the point where Adrian’s head collided with it.
Adrian tried to get up but was quickly kicked in the head, worsening his injured head.
"Stop acting like a big shot when you’re nothing but a worm," Red snarled before stomping on Adrian’s head. "You think you can defeat me just ’cause you got some healing skill? STOP DREAMING, YOU DAMNED IMBICILE!"
Enraged, Red kept raining blow after blow, targeting Adrian’s head. After a couple of minutes, Adrian’s head went numb as he helplessly fell to the ground.
His head might have exploded if not for the [Nemean Blessing]. But the blessing’s time was running out, spelling disaster for Adrian. Even if it hadn’t, it wouldn’t have made a difference. He’d still be on the ground, and Red could keep attacking him.
Fearing the worst, Adrian tried reaching for his sword, but Red quickly kicked it away before stomping on his hand till he heard them crack. Fragments of his bones burst through his skin.
However, Red didn’t stop and kept increasing pressure on them as if he was making sure Adrian could never use his hand again.
"ARGH-"
Adrian yelled but was kicked in the face before Red mounted him and began punching away like the last time.
"You think this hurts? Picture how it’d be when I pour acid on you, just like you did to my father?" Red yelled as he kept punching Adrian.
Adrian tried to fight back using [Illusionary Eyes], but the gap between them was too high for the skill to work for longer than a second.
Sensing defiance from Adrian, Red crushed his hands and kept hitting him so fast that the troll’s blood couldn’t keep up with healing all his wounds simultaneously.
Adrian didn’t know when, but he lost consciousness due to bleeding profusely. Once Red was certain Adrian wouldn’t be waking up soon, he stood up, tied him, hung him on a tree by the hands and kept punching him until Adrian’s entire body was covered in broken bones and blood.
"Damned bastard..." Red panted.
He thought p[unishing Adrian to that extent would ease the rage in his eyes. But he was wrong. No matter what he did to Adrian or how much he made him scream... nothing calmed him.
Until he saw the sword that Leno had dropped, and an idea hit him. Since the hallucinogen’s effects were wearing off, monsters from the forest would soon come into the area where they had been battling.
While Adrian’s mysterious healing effect could head the wounds, nothing would save him from being torn to pieces by those monsters.
But he couldn’t take the risk of Adrian healing before the monsters arrived. Red decided to give Adrian a parting gift to ensure Adrian wouldn’t be able to leave.
"It pains me that I won’t be able to see your final moments or hear your desperate cries for help," Red mumbled as he picked up the sword, gently pressing the tip against Adrian’s chest. "But since my father died alone, it seems fitting that you should too."
With that, Red shoved the sword into Adrian’s chest, destroying his heart once and for all. Satisfied with his revenge, Red left, now focused on finding a way back home.
But the story wasn’t finished, not yet. After all, the entities watching over Adrian still wanted to see more of the Chimaera’s tale unfold.
