Chapter 282: Storm Tamer (5)
"Will you remind me what I’m doing here!?" John complained loudly as he stood facing the endless sea.
John stood by the sea, dressed head to toe in Demon Crab shells and holding a bucket of Demon Crab meat. His makeshift armour was more hilarious than intimidating, with crab legs sticking out at odd angles and shells clinking with every move.
He had been standing there for hours but didn’t know what for. All he knew was that Adrian wouldn’t let him move an inch, not even to rest.
Even the others were confused but didn’t say a thing as long as they weren’t the ones standing there wearing nothing but crab shells. No one but Sophia knew what was going on inside Adrian’s head.
"Stay there until I tell you otherwise," Adrian yelled back, laying comfortably in a hammock while the rest had their own hammocks to sleep on.
"I bet he regrets not listening to me. He could have stayed in Miami, but no!" Michaela commented, sipping coconut water. "Woah, this tastes like lemonade."
"Should we tell her?" Sophia asked Adrian.
Michaela didn’t know she was drinking a naturally made cocktail of demon fruit and demon crab pee. While it wouldn’t harm them, and the drink was considered a delicacy on Nexaria, many people were grossed out by the thought of drinking juice from trees watered with demon crab pee.
"Ignorance is bliss," Adrian replied, eating some roasted crab along with the drink. "Let them enjoy it while they can because there’ll be no rest for us once it appears."
"That’s for sure," Sophia replied before returning to sunbathing.
Meanwhile, the Sons of the Moon guild members were surprised by Adrian’s knowledge of a dungeon he hadn’t been to before. He happened to know a lot more than they did, even though they owned the dungeon.
But even all that considered, Robin couldn’t rest easy. In his eyes, they were wasting time, which they could have used to find and kill the boss monster hidden within the sea.
’... It’s not like we haven’t tried before. But we can never seem to find the dungeon boss. It’s like the boss doesn’t exist in this domain.’
Like Adrian told them, the dungeon boss had to be somewhere in the sea. The guild had tried twice before, but every time, they failed to last longer than five minutes in the sea before their vessel was torn to shreds.
Their failure to clear the dungeon was why Robin was hopeful Adrian would be able to help them. Based on his knowledge, it looked possible, but now that they were wasting time again, he wasn’t so sure.
On the other hand, the guild members were enjoying the mini vacation in their swimsuits. It didn’t seem like they were there to clear a dungeon but to party their lives away.
The sun started setting when John noticed a subtle change in the sea. The water level began to rise, and the waves seemed to be creeping closer.
He squinted at the horizon, wondering what was causing the change. It was then he noticed something moving under the sea.
"What is that...?" he mumbled, adjusting the crab helmet.
Suddenly, the water exploded. A massive, monstrous fish leapt out of the sea, its jaws wide open, aiming straight for John and his bucket of crab meat.
The fish was enormous, with rows of sharp teeth and scales that shone in the fading light.
"Oh, hell no!" John yelled, dropping the bucket.
Without delay, he turned and ran like never before, his crab shells clattering noisily. The giant fish snapped its jaws shut just inches from where John had been standing, snatching the bucket and all the crab meat with it.
John could smell the fish’s stinky odour as it narrowly missed his back.
"FUCK!" John screamed, running faster.
He sped through the sand, dodging rocks and plants. The clattering noise from his crab shell outfit made his escape both awkward and comical. Even then, he glanced back to see the fish retreating into the sea, dragging the bucket of crab meat with it.
John didn’t stop running until he was deep into the island, far from the shore. He collapsed onto the ground, panting and covered in sweat. His crab shell armour was dented and dirty, and he had lost half of his crab breastplate, but he was alive.
"Tsk, you lost the armour," Adrian clicked his tongue, looking closely at the damage to the armour. "It’s a good thing we still have to catch a lot more crabs anyway."
However, John wasn’t listening to anything that Adrian had to say and grabbed his collar. As usual, Aris was ready to attack, but Adrian raised his hand, stopping her.
"What the hell was that, you bastard!?" John yelled while panting. "You knew it would happen, didn’t you?"
"I mean, I had my doubts," Adrian shrugged, casually pulling John’s arm off him. "But yeah, I expected something like that to happen. So, what will you do now?"
John glared at Adrian but didn’t do anything. It was more like he couldn’t do anything when even Michaela wasn’t backing him up. Begrudgingly, he decided to let go of the matter.
"A little information would have been appreciated," John mumbled before taking his clothes from Michaela.
"Yeah, my bad," Adrian yelled as John left to get dressed.
"Was that the-" Robin spoke once things had settled down.
"The dungeon’s boss? Yeah." Sophia replied, drawing the beast’s rough sketch on the sand. "The beast is called Storm Tamer because it is only found in rough seas and is invincible while in water."
"How... do you know all about this, storm tamer?" Ruby asked when she couldn’t contain her curiosity anymore.
"We’re outworlders," Adrian chimed in. "As such, we have dealt with a couple of them before. Once I noticed the Demon Crabs, I knew the Storm Tamer had to be somewhere around as they are its favourite prey."
"Favourite prey? How does it hunt them when the crabs stay on land?"
"It waits for the sea level to rise and a bit of luck," Adrian answered. "But that doesn’t matter. As long as we keep feeding it the crabs, the Storm Tamer will be addicted and will wait for us to feed it more. Its greed will lure it out of the sea, and that’s when we’ll strike."
