Chapter 229: Clowns Can’t Be That Scary... (1)

Laughter and chatter filled the air as families and friends gathered around Hera’s temple, enjoying their time together in the Goddess’s embrace. But peaceful times didn’t last for long.

Out of nowhere, a deafening explosion shook the ground, sending shockwaves rippling under their feet. The tourists froze in terror as panic swept through them. Some stumbled and fell, while others screamed in fear.

"It’s an earthquake!" someone shouted.

"Since when were earthquakes accompanied by explosions?" another man yelled over the chaos. "It has to be the boss monster! I-It’s the only possible explanation-"

"Stop speaking out of your ass!" someone else argued. "There’s no way something like that would happen. The Goddess will not allow it!"

By then, the guards sprang into action, rushing to calm the panicked crowd and guide them to safety. But their efforts were in vain as hysteria took hold.

People were convinced the explosion had something to do with the boss monster and wanted nothing to do with it. Soon, no one cared about their surroundings and rushed towards the gates to leave the dungeon.

"The dungeon boss is secure! Nothing can free it without the Goddess’s will-" one of the guards shouted, his voice barely audible above the chaos. "Please, everyone, remain calm!"

Unfortunately, the guard’s words fell on deaf ears as the tourists pushed and shoved one another to leave the dungeon as another explosion went off.

What little trust the ’devoted’ people had in Hera evaporated quickly after that. Adrian would have enjoyed seeing the scene if he had not been too busy causing the explosion to bury the underground facility, killing all of the mind-controlled soldiers.

Meanwhile, Abigail spat out the chewing gum and exchanged a glance with her men. Without hesitation, they sprinted towards the underground facility.

She knew it had to be Adrian’s doing, even though she couldn’t understand how he got past the security that had been explicitly eyeing for him.

"And here I thought things would get boring..." Abigail smirked, wondering what kind of man Adrian was.

On the other hand, Henry didn’t react the same way as Abigail did. He didn’t find Adrian’s intrusion funny or exciting. For him, it was a failure and knowing Lady Maria, he knew his head would be the next sacrifice to the Goddess if he failed to stop Adrian from closing the dungeon.

"Tell everyone to stop whatever the fuck they are doing and head to the facility!" Henry yelled at his assistants. "I want that bastard’s head, or else I’ll have all of yours!"

"But sir, what about the tourists-"

"Did you not hear what I said? I want everyone inside the facility, RIGHT NOW!"

"...on it!"

Meanwhile, inside the facility...

Adrian was surprised to see the guards he had defeated were carrying grenades, not the ordinary ones either. Strangely enough, they resembled the ones used by the Nexarian army.

’This must be Hera’s doing. She most likely ’bestowed’ this knowledge on Maria, who used her connections to make these.’

While the grenades were nothing but a poor replica of the original design Adrian and a few heroes had come up with, they still packed quite the punch. So much so that Adrian almost got his legs blown up when one of the guards turned into a suicide bomber and clung to his legs.

Either way, thanks to the guards, Adrian had a way to destroy the sleeping soldiers. However, he didn’t expect the cryotube would explode if hit by the grenade.

What started as an attempt to destroy the cryotubes turned into an uncontrollable fire that engulfed absolutely everything. At least Adrian didn’t have to worry about taking care of the corpses as he ran back up.

By the time the reinforcements reached the labs, it was too late. The fire had destroyed everything there. Henry wanted to pursue Adrian, but his hands were filled with stopping the fire from reaching the boss’s room.

"Get everyone together and get this fire under control!" he yelled.

The mages nodded and rushed to extinguish the fire with water spells. Unfortunately, even that backfired as they got electrocuted the moment they spilt water. Just like that, dozens of A-rank mages fell to basic scientific principles.

"STOP IT!" Henry yelled as he realised Adrian must have severed the underground powerlines while lighting the fire.

Frustration gnawed upon Henry’s insides as he angrily punched the wall. Adrian was only one man. How the hell had he thrown them into such a desperate situation?

Everyone thought the same thing, but there wasn’t much they could have done about it. Chasing Adrian was like chasing a ghost; there was no stopping him, just like the fire before them.

The flames and smoke were getting to them. If they didn’t do anything soon, the fire would reach the boss room, and if something happened to the appliances keeping the boss asleep, all hell would break loose.

"Cough... cough... Sir! We need to do something before-"

"I know, damnit!" Henry yelled back. "I’m going to kill that fucking bastard-"

"My oh my, you call yourself a goddess’s follower and have a mouth like that?" Adrian scoffed, playing with a grenade. "Well, I guess someone like Hera deserves followers like you."

Everyone spun around, startled to see Adrian standing there. They didn’t realise that Adrian had gone invisible and trailed behind them to the boss’s room.

Given the situation, he figured they would head there first to secure the boss, and he was correct. Henry had led the intruder to the place he never wanted to and was now going to pay for it.

However, before that, Henry grabbed a sword and rushed towards Adrian. "I’m going to fuck you up!"

"Tsk tsk," Adrian clicked his tongue, blocking the attack with his broadsword. "That’s not how you ask someone out. You gotta be patient and get to know them first."

"This bastard-"

Before Henry could complete what he was saying, Adrian kicked him in the chest, throwing him backwards. However, something happened to Henry... Instead of fighting back, he smiled and pressed a button next to him.

"You wanted the boss, right?" he said as Adrian got locked within invisible walls. "Let’s see how you like it."

Adrian had fallen into a trap!
