Chapter 212: Love Is In The Air
[Trigger Warning: You might die from cringe.]
The early morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Adrian stirred, slowly waking from his slumber to the chorus of birds chirping outside.
Blinking sleepily, Adrian became aware of the weight on his chest. Looking down, he saw Sophia curled beside him, her head resting on his chest.
He couldn’t deny the warmth her presence brought, but it also stirred up a whirlwind of emotions he wasn’t ready to confront.
He ran his hand through his messy hair, trying to wake himself up. Inevitably, his eyes kept falling on Sophia. She was still asleep, tangled in the bedsheets with her hair falling in waves around her.
Only then did he remember the events of the previous night and the intimacy the two shared in the dead of the night. As much as he wanted to forget, the memories were too vivid, too good to be ignored.
’What did I do...’
Adrian sighed. Sophia might have been comfortable with what they did, but he couldn’t help but feel like he had manipulated her into sleeping with her last night.
He wasn’t the same guy Sophia fell for; that’s why he felt weird about what the two had done. But even then, Adrian couldn’t deny that he felt something special when it came to Sophia.
’I wanted to keep my distance from her so she wouldn’t remember the other me and find happiness elsewhere. But it had the opposite effect... gosh, I don’t know how to feel about this.’
Gently, he pushed Sophia aside, not wanting to wake her up while he struggled with his emotions. But before he could slip away, Sophia’s hand shot out, grabbing his arm with surprising strength.
Slowly, she opened her eyes, looking at him with a smile that could melt the coldest hearts. There was something about her that made Adrian forget all about his worries from yesterday.
It almost felt like nothing mattered to him more than Sophia, and that thought scared him the most. Adrian was walking on a dangerous path and knew he couldn’t fall in love and endanger someone else in his pursuit of revenge.
However, his head wasn’t thinking logically anymore, and Adrian knew what he wanted more than anything at that moment.
But more than that, it felt like she could see right through him and know what was happening inside his head.
"It’s okay," she whispered softly. "Last night was on me. You weren’t in the right headspace when we... did it. Don’t think less of yourself because of it. If anything, I’m the one who should take the blame-"
"No, it wasn’t just you..." Adrian said, reaching out to gently caress her cheek. "Whatever happened, I’m glad it did..."
Adrian then took a moment to himself, as if wondering about something, before speaking again.
"I may not remember everything we had. But I’m willing to take a chance on us, Sophia, if you’ll have me. The me that I am today..."
Sophia’s eyes welled with tears, but her smile was radiant as she reached up to cup Adrian’s face and kissed him like she had many times before. But this time, it felt special, like their first kiss.
"I’d like that," she said, her head resting on his. "I’d like that very much."

Adrian and Sophia walked into the kitchen hand in hand, brimming with happiness. Seraphina was the first to notice the change in their demeanour when she glanced up from stirring a pot on the stove.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" she teased the couple. "Looks like the lovebirds are back together."
Adrian blushed slightly, unsure how to respond to her, but Sophia rolled her eyes, playfully swatting Seraphina’s arm as she reached to touch Adrian’s shoulder.
"Hand’s off," Sophia joked. "You shouldn’t go around touching someone’s boyfriend like this."
Seraphina laughed, shaking her head as she turned back to her cooking. "Yeah, yeah, keep your man to yourself, lovebird."
A’Mila and Amelia entered the kitchen, drawn by the sound of laughter. A’Mila raised an eyebrow as she caught sight of Adrian and Sophia’s intertwined hands.
"I wasn’t expecting to see this scene early in the morning!" A’Mila smiled, feeling happy for Sophia.
Amelia forced a smile, her heart sinking at the sight of Adrian and Sophia’s new relationship.
"Yeah, me neither," she replied, trying to keep her voice light and cheerful.
Sophia glanced at Amelia, noticing the forced smile on her face. Something was off with her, and as her friend, she wanted to help the elf in any way she could.
"Hey, are you okay, Amelia?" Sophia asked, concerned about her.
Amelia nodded quickly, plastering on an even bigger smile.
"Yeah, I’m fine," she said brightly and even went in for a hug. "Just happy to see you two so happy together after so long."
Sophia wasn’t convinced but decided to drop it. She knew Amelia. If she wanted to share something, she would, but if she didn’t, then nothing would make her spill the beans.
Seraphina couldn’t resist one last tease as they settled at the table and asked, "So, when’s the wedding?"
Adrian nearly choked on his juice while the girls burst out laughing. Amelia was happy for them, but as she watched Adrian and Sophia exchange a knowing glance, she felt a bit saddened.
She couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy, wishing that she had been the one to confess her feelings for Adrian just like Sophia had. If she had then, maybe... things would have been different.
But she pushed those thoughts aside, reminding herself that Sophia was her friend, and she genuinely wanted her to be happy.
As laughter and chatter filled the kitchen, Amelia silently vowed to support Sophia and Adrian in any way she could, even if it meant hiding her own feelings behind a facade of happiness like she had done before.
As she watched them share a moment, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of hope that someday, she would find her own happiness, too.
