Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer -
Chapter 208: On A Warpath (2)
Chapter 208: On A Warpath (2)
The man raced down the dimly lit stairwell, his breath ragged as he glanced over his shoulder, expecting to see Adrian’s shadow behind him.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that Adrian was hot on his heels, ready to strike at any moment, even though he knew Adrian was busy dealing with the others.
’I need to inform the Clan master about him. Adrian Fenrir is a monster we need to stop at all cost!’ one of the white tigers thought, running down the corridors, hoping Adrian would be too preoccupied to notice him.
The man wasn’t wrong. There were at least fifty tigers Adrian had to deal with. As such, it was unlikely he would leave to chase after one man. However, there was one thing he didn’t consider.
What if Adrian wasn’t alone?
’It would make more sense if he was alone as he couldn’t have known we’d be here beforehand.’
Finally, he reached the bottom of the stairs. The man felt relieved, thinking he was only a few steps away from freedom.
But his relief was short-lived as he caught sight of a woman standing at the foot of the staircase, twirling a baton between her fingers with a sinister smile on her face.
But that wasn’t all. Next to her lay his clan mates, sprawled unconscious on the floor. Only then did the man realise they had all fallen into the same trap.
Like him, they, too, had rushed there to warn the clan leader about Adrian, only to be intercepted by this mysterious woman dressed in a casual outfit.
"Took you long enough to get here," she remarked. "I was starting to get bored since no one showed up for five minutes straight."
The man’s muscles tensed as he instinctively slipped into a defensive stance. "What have you done to them?"
"Relax," the woman said, her tone carrying a disarmingly charm. "They’re just sleeping. You wouldn’t want to disturb them, will you?"
"Who are you?" the man asked as he couldn’t see the woman’s face properly.
"Oh, I thought I was quite famous already," the woman mumbled, stepping out of the shadows.
The man’s eyes widened as he recognised her. It was Seraphina, one of Adrian’s closest allies and an S-ranker. She was someone they had been told not to engage in combat during the debriefing.
They didn’t know what she was capable of, and unlike Adrian, she was expected to be well over level hundred. In other words, fighting her was a death sentence for someone like him.
But the man had no choice. He needed to inform the clan about the situation, even if it cost him his life, or the Clan master would kill them either way. Seraphina glanced up as the man approached with a sly smile.
"What do you want?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady despite being scared.
"Oh, nothing much," Seraphina’s smile widened, and she took another step forward. "Just making sure no rats scurry out of here until Adrian’s done dealing with his business."
The man’s grip tightened on the hilt of his sword. If he was going down, he was going down in a fight, not like a coward.
As he prepared to strike, Seraphina vanished before his eyes, leaving him confused. Before he could react, she reappeared behind him, her breath warm against his ear.
"You should have thought twice before crossing Adrian," she whispered. "But I guess I should be thankful. After all, you gave him a reason to go berserk, like I wanted."
With a sudden surge of adrenaline, the man spun around to face Seraphina, his blade ready to strike her. But before he could make a move, she struck with blinding speed, her baton landing squarely on his head.
As the man’s consciousness drifted away, Seraphina stood over him, her expression mildly annoyant as she surveyed the scene before her.
"Honestly," she muttered, "how long do I have to keep doing this boring job of knocking out would-be threats without spilling blood?"
With a resigned shake of her head, she turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving the man and his clan mates lying unconscious on the floor.

Meanwhile...
The hallway was narrow, barely wide enough for four people to pass each other comfortably. But now, it was packed as over fifty members of the White Tiger clan faced off against Adrian, their weapons drawn and ready for battle.
Adrian stood alone at one end of the hallway, staring at them without emotion. When he got there, he hadn’t expected to see an army waiting for him, and it quelled any doubt in his mind.
When he used [Illusionary Eyes] on the white tigers in the dungeon, he didn’t expect them to take Joseph’s and Jacob’s names. Yes, they were stupid, but Adrian couldn’t believe they were complete morons to send assassins to deal with him all for the sake of some money.
Even when he arrived, he had hoped to knock some sense into them and probably break a bone or two to get the message through this time. But when he noticed the clan members there, all that consideration was thrown out of the window.
All Adrian wanted now was to wreak havoc. Besides, he hoped beating the shit out of the White Tigers would calm him enough to not do something hasty to his family.
Taking out the whip, Adrian cracked his knuckles. He knew he was outnumbered, but he relished the challenge. However, the White Tigers weren’t newbies either and were armed with an array of weapons ranging from swords to spears.
"Bring me his head!" Their leader, a burly man with a scarred face, barked orders, urging his warriors to attack.
Without hesitation, the first wave of White Tigers lunged forward, their weapons slashing through the air. They weren’t going for precision and wanted to overwhelm Adrian with sheer strength.
But Adrian chose to do the opposite.
He hit everyone with all he had. With each snap of his whip, he disarmed his opponents, sending their weapons clattering to the ground. Once disarmed, it was only a matter of time before they fell.
With a flick of his wrist, Adrian sent his whip around a white tiger’s wrist, disarming him easily. Then, with a swift kick to the chest, he sent the assailant crashing into his comrades, creating a momentary gap in their defences.
But the White Tigers were relentless and took advantage of their numbers. Adrian didn’t give up either and moved like a shadow, weaving between strikes and countering with blows of his own.
His fists and feet became a blur as he unleashed a barrage of strikes to hit those who dodged the whip. But that wasn’t all.
Since they were so keen on using their numbers, Adrian decided to play dirty and used [Illusionary Eyes] on a bunch of them, instigating them to fight amongst each other.
[Skill: [Illusionary Eyes] has been upgraded to level 5.]
[The Skill has gained additional skill effect: Hoax (Level 1)]
[Using the Skill will now have an AOE effect, which can be controlled by the User.]
The white tigers fought ferociously, their desperation fueling their attacks, but Adrian was a force to be reckoned with. With each opponent he dispatched, his confidence grew, and his movements got smoother, thanks to his training sessions with Seraphina.
Suddenly, a white tiger wielding a pair of sai blades lunged at him from the shadows. Adrian’s instincts kicked in, and he spun out of the way just in time as the blades struck where his head was moments ago.
Adrian kicked the guy back before hitting him with his whip, striking against the assailant’s arm with a sickening thud.
The white tiger stumbled back, but before he could recover, Adrian was upon him, his fists a blur as he delivered a series of devastating blows. With a final, bone-crunching strike, the assailant crumpled to the ground, defeated and barely alive.
But before Adrian could celebrate, he was struck by something metallic to his right temple. He stumbled back, disoriented, as he clutched at his throbbing head.
Blinking away the pain, he saw the captain of the white tiger clan standing before him, a metal bangle gleaming on his wrist.
"You’re good," the captain commented, fidgeting with the bangles. "But not good enough."
"Says the one who did nothing while I destroyed his men," Adrian retorted.
"They were useless if they couldn’t deal with you," the captain shrugged, assuming a battle stance. "So what you did to them is of no concern to me."
Suddenly, the leader lunged forward, and Adrian met him with equal ferocity. Jacob and Joseph didn’t know what was going on outside.
They had hoped the White Tigers would manage to subdue Adrian. However, fate had something else in mind as a minute later, Adrian walked inside, dragging the unconscious captain behind him.
"You people never learn, do you?" Adrian snarled, making himself comfortable on their sofa while his family stared at him like they had seen a ghost. "Maybe I should teach you morons a better lesson, so this time it goes into your head and you know who you’re messing with."
