Chapter 155: Dishonoured One (2)

The morning sun shone through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Suddenly, Adrian jolted awake with a start, his heart pounding wildly, trying to force its way out of his chest.

He remained in bed, his body drenched in sweat, his mind still foggy from the weird nightmare he had. Blinking rapidly, he looked around, trying to make sense of everything.

"Where... where am I this time?" Adrian muttered to himself, his voice hoarse with thirst and tiredness.

He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear the foggy thoughts from his mind. Adrian looked around, and only then did he realise he was in his bed in the Inn.

But something was different. Something was off. Someone or something was on his chest. As he glanced down at himself, he froze. He was naked. Entirely and utterly naked, with only the thick bedsheets covering him.

Panicked, he turned to look for his clothes in order to cover himself with before anyone saw him like that.

"The fuck was I doing last night?" Adrian mumbled, trying to get up. "I don’t remember getting drunk or shit... Did I... no that-"

His cheeks burned with embarrassment as he tried to piece together what had happened the night before. He wondered if something happened between him and Sophia.

And then, he felt it. Something warm and soft resting against his chest. Slowly, he looked down to see Fenris, his loyal companion, curled up next to him.

But Fenris wasn’t the one touching his chest. Fearing the worst, Adrian slowly turned to the other side, only to see Sophia lay sleeping peacefully, her arm draped over his chest, her naked body pressed against his own.

"What the-!?"

Adrian’s eyes widened in shock as he realised they were both naked. His mind raced, remembering how they had ended up in this compromising position. But nothing came to his mind.

"Did... did I do something to her?" Adrian whispered but immediately shook that thought out of his head. There was no way he would take advantage of someone.

He tried to get out of bed to avoid any weird conversations, but his movements stirred Sophia and Fenris from their sleep.

Sophia’s eyes fluttered open, and she noticed Adrian standing beside the bed. Without a second thought, she jumped from the bed and rushed to Adrian’s side, clearly worried about something.

"Adrian, how are you now? Is everything fine?" Sophia asked, concerned as she cupped his face. "Are you still cold?"

At that moment, all thoughts of awkwardness fled from Adrian’s mind as he focused on Sophia’s concerned eyes. They were standing naked in the room, yet none of them seemed to be worried about it.

Her reaction to the situation made Adrian realise they were indeed close once, or else Sophia wouldn’t be okay with it as they were. He reached out and gently took her hand, smiling.

"I... I don’t know what happened," Adrian began. "But I think I’m okay."

Sophia closed her eyes, sighing in relief. Last night had been like a terrible nightmare for her, but apparently, Adrian didn’t remember anything.

And so, she recounted the events of the previous night, from his sudden passing out to the violent shivering and sweating as if he was having a seizure.

She rushed towards Amelia’s room to get help, only to find a note saying they were leaving to collect some intel. Sophia panicked and returned to the room only to see Adrian’s condition worsening.

She did everything she could, from using spells to warming him using traditional methods. But nothing worked, and his condition kept getting worse.

"I... I didn’t know what else to do. So, I... I stripped both of us naked and held you close, hoping to warm you up," Sophia sheepishly admitted.

"Fenris also climbed on the bed, warming you from the other side. Strangely enough, it seemed to calm you a bit, and before I knew it, we were already asleep."

Adrian’s mouth hung open by the time Sophia was done explaining everything. Although he didn’t tell her about it, Adrian was sure his body was reacting to the nightmare he had.

’...I can deal with it later. Gotta save Vesper first.’

However, there was something he needed to do before that.

"Thank you, Sophia," Adrian whispered as he hugged her tightly, burying his face in the crook of her neck. "and I’m sorry for whatever trouble I caused-"

"There’s nothing to be sorry for, Adrian," Sophia shook her head, her arms tightening around him. "You might think it’s weird, but I liked being close to you again."

The following moment, Sophia’s grip tightened around him. It felt weird at first, but strangely, hugging Sophia so intimately seemed natural to him.

But just as they began to relax, a sudden noise from the doorway startled them. Adrian turned to see Amelia and A’Mila standing there, their expressions mixing surprise and amusement.

"I see what you people were busy with," A’Mila commented. "Shacking bones, were we?"

"Uh... sorry to interrupt," Amelia said, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she pushed A’Mila with one arm and closed the door with her leg. "We’ll, uh, just leave you two alone."

They retreated from the room without another word, leaving Adrian and Sophia alone once more. Adrian and Sophia exchanged a sheepish glance, their cheeks flushing with embarrassment again. But in that moment, it didn’t matter.

What mattered was that Adrian couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Here they were, standing naked in his bedroom, with their friends immediately assuming the worst about them without any questions.

"Well," he said, his eyes twinkling mischievously as he squeezed her hand, "I suppose we have some explaining to do."

"...I don’t even know what to say now," Sophia chuckled softly. "I suppose we’ll have quite the story to tell them later."

"Yeah..." Adrian mumbled. "Let’s get dressed first and see what they found from their nightly escapades."

Sophia left to get dressed; Adrian was about to do the same when a prompt appeared before him.
