Chapter 143: Harmony (2)
Adrian was baffled as the tab closed automatically. He wasn’t surprised by the tab closing but by the revelations he just had.
Why was his relationship with Sophia considered restricted information? But more importantly, the system’s response indirectly confirmed they shared some sort of relationship.
’I don’t think we had an intimate relationship. I could be wrong, though,’ Adrian mumbled, his confusion turning into a furrowed brow. ’But why would it be restricted information? What could be so significant about our relationship that it needs to be hidden?’
As far as Adrian knew, a piece of information was restricted in only two cases: first, when the system itself blocks the User from accessing certain information, and second, if an entity had requested it.
Since Adrian couldn’t see a scenario where the system would care about someone’s personal life, so he knew it wasn’t the first case.
However, he couldn’t say the same about the entities, as they often seemed to be vested in the personal aspect of the mortals. After all, it gave them more ammo to torment them with.
’So, it has to be an entity... but why?’ Adrian sighed, staring into the night sky.
He kept thinking but couldn’t find a reason for an entity to block off his memories. Eventually, he decided not to dwell on it anymore.
The system might not tell him about the relationship he once had with Sophia, but now that he knew there was some connection between them, Adrian wouldn’t mind asking Sophia about it.
His mind then went to the hidden stat [Harmony]. Although he didn’t ask the system for an explanation, he had a rough idea of how it worked.
It wasn’t rocket science to figure out what was going on. Adrian has had mood swings since the moment he absorbed the Minotaur’s heart, but it got worse after he took a part of the arachnid in him.
"Both of them are boss-tier monsters who hadn’t had someone above them," Adrian mumbled, watching Fenris sleep peacefully next to him. "Looks like they don’t want to let go of their status even in death and are causing an issue for me."
Each dungeon had its own hierarchy, with its boss at the top. Since both the Minotaur and Arachnid Queen were used to ruling over the rest, they weren’t ready to submit to the other, and their unnecessary conflict caused problems for Adrian.
"Since I killed you both, you should be bonding over your loss instead of fighting it out," Adrian sighed, shaking his head. "But what should I do next?"
Even though he knew the problem, there was no way for him to deal with it. It wasn’t like he could travel inside his body and get the Minotaur’s essence to have a meeting with the Queen.
"...things will have to remain as they are."
Adrian felt uneasy at that thought. The completionist in him wanted to do something now that he knew about the problem, but he wasn’t sure what to do. His solution at the moment was not to disturb whatever [Harmony] the organs had, as doing so would put him at risk.
Unfortunately, it also meant not absorbing any organs till he figured out a way to deal with the existing issue first.
"I need some air..."
With a sigh, he made his way towards the balcony, seeking solace in the cool embrace of the night air. The next moment, the cold breeze of the wilderness greeted him.
The fresh air brought a smile to his face, "No wonder they don’t need air conditioners here."
He closed his eyes for a moment, surrounded by the silence of the night. When he opened them again, he found himself gazing over the settlement, bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight.
It had been a couple of days since the Banurs captured this territory, but Adrian had been here for a while. His focus had always been on finding ways to deal with the Tulkas, so much so that he never appreciated the place’s beauty.
Tonight, however, he allowed himself the luxury of simply taking in the sight and appreciating the beauty of the forest surrounding them. The balcony was no Oakville bridge his father used to take him, but it was a good enough replacement for some self-reflection.
"Better enjoy the scenery while I can..." Adrian mumbled with a sad smile. "It’s not like I’ll stick around here for long."
Unbeknownst to him, Fenris had silently joined him on the balcony. When he spoke those words, the creature nudged him gently with her nose as if to tell him she had no intention of leaving.
"Of course, you’re coming with me," Adrian chuckled, reaching to pat her head.
The two watched as the trees swayed gently in the breeze, their leaves rustling as if whispering to one another. The starry night sky stretched out above, looking over the nocturnal beasts as they went about their business.
"Beautiful, isn’t it?" a voice spoke from behind, breaking the silence.
Adrian turned to see A’Mila standing there with a smile on her lips.
"Yeah," Adrian replied, his voice soft. "It’s... wonderful."
"Trouble sleeping?" she inquired, and Adrian nodded. "Same here. It’s as if our bodies have grown weary of too much rest."
Saying so, A’Mila stood beside him, her eyes following his gaze out over the settlement.
"It’s weird, don’t you think?" She commented, and Adrian raised his eyebrow, confused by her statement.
"Weird?"
"Isn’t it odd how we’re always preoccupied with the future? Constantly pondering what lies ahead," she mused. "We’re so consumed by what’s to come that we often forget to live in the moment."
"Ah, coming from someone as ancient as you, that’s quite a sentiment." Adrian chuckled as A’Mila playfully smacked his arm.
"Come on, Fenris, let’s go for a walk," Adrian mumbled. "You too, let’s go."
Fenris let out a low yawn but rose to her feet and padded over to Adrian’s side, her tail wagging lazily.
"Go where?" A’Mila asked as Adrian grabbed her hand and dragged her with him.
"To live in the moment."
