Chapter 8: Rescue: My Husband’s White Lotus!

"Pl... Please don’t do this," I whispered as my voice trembled. My words were laced with desperation as I begged, leaving my entire body frozen.

But Evander wasn’t listening. His eyes were locked on mine, filled with pure desire. Without a word, he took my hand in his, guiding it to his bare chest. The warmth of his skin against my trembling fingers sent a wave of panic coursing through me.

"Feel that?" he said softly as his tone was deceptively gentle yet commanding. "That’s my heart, Claire. Beating for you. Only for you."

I tried to pull my hand back, but his grip tightened, keeping it firmly in place. Tears welled in my eyes as I shook my head and my voice broke. "Evander, please. Don’t do this. Let me go."

His jaw tightened and I could see a flicker of frustration crossing his face. "You are not going anywhere," he said firmly. "Not until you understand that you are mine. Your body, your soul, your everything... is all mine!"

I stared at him, my heart pounding, desperately searching for a way out. But suddenly he let go of me and rose to his feet.

"This is just a start, Claire!" He said and with that, he turned and left. The door closed behind him with a heavy thud. The sound of closing the door echoed in the room.

I was trapped. Alone. And Evander was more dangerous than I had ever realized.

I had to get out. Before it was too late, my mind raced with numerous ideas to escape. When someone entered the room.

"It’s you..."

I sat there, chained to the bed, the cold metal digging into my skin. The room was dim, only a sliver of light coming through the small window. My mind raced, replaying everything that had just happened. Evander, the man I once loved, now a stranger to me, had locked me away like a prisoner.

How did things get this bad?

Tears filled my eyes, but I blinked them away. Crying wouldn’t help me. I needed to stay calm and stay focused. I tugged at the chains again, wincing as the metal bit into my legs. It was no use. I was trapped.

My eyes scanned the room, searching for anything—anything that could help me. The door was locked, of course, but there had to be another way out. My gaze landed on the small table near the door, I was just a few steps away from there.

I shivered. Evander was a cold man, but he was never a person who would do something like this. I had full faith in him, but now he felt menacing and cold. I couldn’t stay here. I couldn’t just wait for whatever he had planned next. I had to leave no matter how impossible it seemed.

Taking a deep breath, I tried to think. What had changed? Why was he doing this now? We hadn’t seen each other in years. I had left, hoping to start over, to find a life without him and the pain his family caused me. But now he was back, and he was different— dangerous, completely opposite from his personality—that once I knew!

There had to be a reason. Something had snapped in him, something that made him think this was the only way to keep me close. But this wasn’t love. This was madness.

Is it really him? Or something is going on that I can’t see?

I shifted on the bed, trying to find a more comfortable position, when I heard something—a faint sound. Footsteps? My heart raced again, pounding so loud I thought it might drown out the noise. I strained to listen. The footsteps were getting closer.

Was he coming back?

I froze, my body tense with fear. I didn’t know what to expect anymore. Would he be calm like before, trying to convince me this was for us? Or would he be angry, his patience running thin?

The door creaked open, and I held my breath.

But it wasn’t Evander.

A figure slipped into the room, moving quickly and quietly. For a second, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

"It’s you..." I looked at the finger in disbelief.

It was a woman, her face half-hidden by the shadows, but I recognized her immediately.

Susan.

The other woman. The one Evander had been with while we were married. The one who had taken everything from me. The white lotus of my husband!

I stared at her, confusion and anger swirling inside me. What was she doing here? Was she part of this? Did she know what Evander was doing to me?

She closed the door behind her, her eyes locking onto mine. For a moment, we just stared at each other in silence. Then she moved closer, her steps slow and deliberate.

"I don’t have much time," she whispered, her voice low but urgent.

I blinked, completely caught off guard. "What... what are you doing here?"

Susan glanced over her shoulder, as if checking to make sure we weren’t being watched. "I’m here to help you."

I shook my head, not understanding. "Help me? Why would you—?"

"Listen," she cut me off, her tone sharp. "I don’t care if you believe me or not, but Evander’s lost it. He’s not the same man anymore. I tried to warn him, but he won’t listen to me."

I stared at her, still trying to process what she was saying. "You... you know what he’s done to me? You knew he was going to—?"

"Yes," she interrupted, her eyes flashing with frustration. "And I’m trying to stop him before it gets worse."

I didn’t know whether to believe her or not. This was the woman who had played a part in destroying my marriage, in ruining my life. But right now, she was the only person standing between me and whatever Evander had planned.

"How do I know I can trust you?" I asked, my voice shaky.

Susan let out a bitter laugh. "You don’t. But do you have any other options?"

I swallowed hard, my mind racing. She was right. I didn’t have any options. Evander wasn’t thinking clearly, and I couldn’t sit here and wait for him to decide what to do with me. If Susan was offering a way out, I had to take it, no matter how much I hated her.

"Okay," I said quietly. "What’s the plan?"

She moved quickly, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small key. "This will unlock the chains," she whispered, handing it to me. "But you have to move fast. I’ll distract him and buy you some time."

I took the key, my hands trembling. "Why are you helping me?" I asked again, needing to know.
