Chapter 78: Get Your Ass Here!
Chapter 78: Get Your Ass Here!
Claire’s POV
I was feeling a lot lighter after saying everything aloud. I never hated Gloria since she was Evander’s mother. But seeing her like this, I could tell that even Evander must have hated her.
I leaned forward slightly, my voice lowering to a sharp whisper. "Don’t forget, Gloria— I am not the old Claire. And your son? He is wrapped around my finger."
Gloria’s face twisted in anger as her composed mask slipped for a moment. "You—" She opened her mouth to talk, but I interrupted her.
"Enough!" My voice was steady, even though my hands trembled under the table. "This is your final chance for you to leave me alone. Push me further, and I promise you won’t like what happens next."
She glared at me, her nostrils flaring as she wrestled to keep her composure. Then, without another word, she turned and stormed out of the café, her heels clicking furiously against the floor.
As soon as she was gone, I exhaled deeply, my shoulders sagging with relief. I had stood my ground, but the encounter had drained me.
I sat there for a moment, staring at the coffee cup she had left untouched, and whispered to myself, "I hope this is the last time I have to face her."

Sissy’s POV
I woke up later than usual as last night was pretty heavy. I stretched my body lazily as I glanced over at Claire’s side of the bed, half expecting to see her still wrapped up in the blankets. But to my surprise, the space was empty.
"She is probably in the washroom," I muttered to myself, sitting up as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes.
But after waiting for a few minutes and hearing no sound of water or movement, I got up to check. The washroom was empty. I got confused as she was usually there. I headed toward the kitchen, thinking she might be making tea or breakfast, but the stove was cold, and the countertops were spotless.
Frowning, I checked the living room, then the balcony, and finally peeked into every corner of the apartment. No, Claire.
"What the hell! Where are you!?" I muttered under my breath, a mix of worry and annoyance bubbling up inside me.
I hurried back to the bedroom, grabbing my phone to call her. Just as I was about to dial, a thought struck me.
"Wait a second..." I paused, recalling the incident from last night. Claire’s cell phone had been broken. She didn’t have a phone anymore.
"Where could she have gone without her cell phone?" I asked myself, pacing the room as unease settled over me.
A thousand possibilities ran through my mind. Had she gone to confront Gloria? Was she meeting Evander? Or worse, had she just decided to leave without saying a word?
The last thought made my chest tighten.
"She wouldn’t just leave, right?" I whispered to myself, clutching the phone tightly.
Still, I couldn’t sit around doing nothing. Throwing on a jacket, I decided to head out and check the places Claire might have gone. My first guess was the hospital where her grandmother was admitted—it made the most sense.
But just as I was about to leave the room, something caught my eye. A small piece of paper lay on the floor near the bedside table, almost hidden under the edge of the rug.
"What’s this?" I muttered, bending down to pick it up.
Unfolding it, I quickly scanned the words scrawled in Claire’s familiar handwriting:
Sissy, I am going to confront Gloria. I am at the café in front of the hospital. I’ll be back, so don’t worry!
My heart sank. "What the fuck!" I exclaimed as the note trembled slightly in my hands.
I rushed to check my phone, and sure enough, there it was—an outgoing call to an unknown number from last night, supposedly Gloria.
"She used my phone," I muttered, shaking my head in disbelief. "Claire, what are you thinking!?"
My stomach churned at the thought of her sitting face-to-face with Gloria, of all people. Claire might have been growing braver, but Gloria wasn’t someone to take lightly. She was ruthless, cunning, and manipulative, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that Claire was walking straight into the lion’s den.
I stuffed the note into my pocket, grabbed my keys, and bolted out the door. My mind raced with worry as I headed for the café.
"She better not be doing something reckless," I muttered under my breath, my grip tightening on the steering wheel as I sped toward the hospital.
On my way to the café, a thought struck me. If something serious was happening, there was only one person who could truly handle Gloria—Evander.
With a groan, I pulled the car over to the side of the road, my fingers already fumbling to find his number in my contacts. I hesitated for a second, unsure if he would even pick up, but then shook the thought away. This wasn’t the time for doubts.
I dialed his number, tapping my foot anxiously against the car floor as it rang. To my surprise, he picked up on the second ring.
"What is it, Sissy?" His voice was sharp, almost impatient.
"Are you free?" I shot back, not even caring about the curt tone. Before he could answer, I continued ahead. "Even if you are not, I don’t care! You need to come to the place I am texting you right now."
There was a beat of silence on the line. "What’s going on?"
"If anything happens to Claire because of your darling mother, I swear I will kill you myself," I snapped, my frustration spilling over. "So you better get your ass to the café in front of the hospital now! Or don’t blame me for being rude! "
"Wait! What are you saying!?" Evander’s voice sounded stunned. "Are you saying that Claire is meeting my mother!?"
