Chapter 71: I Will Handle Her!

Susan’s POV

I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. I needed to convince her. I had to make her see the benefits of helping me.

"Because if Evander stays with Claire, he will always be distracted," I began, my voice calm but firm. "His focus won’t be on you, and he won’t listen to you either. Is that what you want?"

I paused for a moment, watching her expression. Then, I decided to push harder, to strike where it would hurt most. "Do you remember why we played all those games to separate her from him in the first place?" I leaned in slightly, my tone sharpening. "And do you really think Claire will stay quiet once she finds out the truth about her accident... Auntie?"

Her smirk wavered. That hint of hesitation was all I needed, and I could see that on her face. I could see her racking her mind.

I pressed on further as I refused to give up. "If Claire stays here, it’s only a matter of time before she figures everything out. And when she does... it will be the end of us."

Gloria’s lips twitched, and the smirk vanished completely. She didn’t say anything, but her silence spoke much more than her. I knew I had hit the mark.

"And if Evander finds out about any of this..." I let the words hang in the air for a moment before delivering the final blow. "We might not just lose everything. We might lose our lives."

Gloria’s glared at him sharply, blazing with anger. "Are you threatening me?" she demanded, her voice sharp and her composure quickly returning.

She glared at me; her expression was cold and unforgiving. But I didn’t flinch. Her sudden change in demeanor didn’t faze me. I stood my ground as I knew I had said exactly what needed to be said, so I decided to tone down a little.

"How could I dare to threaten you?" I said softly, my voice laced with a hint of caution. "You are the one with all the power here, Miss Kensington. I am merely reminding you that letting this go on as it is might cause us serious trouble later."

Gloria’s sharp expression softened just a little, but the glint in her eyes remained unsettling. "I understand what you are trying to get at," she replied. "But I don’t need your warnings. I know how to handle that little girl. I have my ways."

Her words sent a chill down my spine. That glint in her eyes was a reminder of who she truly was! She was a woman capable of anything.

"Of course," I said as I forced a smile. "I know you have your ways." My thoughts wandered to the past, to the memories of how Claire used to shrink in fear whenever Gloria was near.

Gloria had tormented Claire relentlessly, turning her life into a nightmare. It all started when she discovered Claire was the woman Evander loved. Gloria couldn’t stand the idea of someone like Claire capturing Evander’s heart, or it might be something else that I still couldn’t fathom.

Evander had done everything in his power to hide his feelings. He treated Claire with coldness, acting as if she meant nothing to him. But I knew better since I was very close to them. I had seen the truth he tried so hard to conceal. His eyes betrayed him every time she was near, and I could see the depth of his feelings.

Gloria, however, was not one to let go easily. Her ways to bully Claire turned into cruelty, and she made sure Claire paid for daring to exist in her world. Even now, as I stood before her, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of Gloria’s presence—a woman who thrived on control and manipulation.

"If there’s nothing else, then... I would like to leave," Gloria said softly as she rose to her feet. Without waiting for my reply, she turned on her heels and walked out, her footsteps echoing faintly in the room.

I sat there in silence, watching her retreating figure disappear beyond the door. Only when she was completely gone did I let out the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding? Her presence was suffocating, like a weight pressing down on me, making it hard to think clearly.

The entire time she was here, I felt trapped—like prey caught in the sights of a predator. Even though her tone had been calm, I could sense the underlying threat in her words. Gloria Kensington was not a woman to be trifled with.

I shook my head, trying to push the uneasy thoughts away, but they lingered. Gloria wasn’t just dangerous; she was ruthless. If I ever did something to anger her or stand in her way, I had no doubt she would erase me from existence without a second thought.

The room felt colder now, as if her presence had left a chilling residue. I glanced around, suddenly restless, and stood up. I needed to leave this place to step outside and feel the open air.

As I walked toward the door, Angel was already waiting for me, her face filled with worry.

"Susan, are you done? Are you alright?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.

I raised a brow, slightly amused by her tone. "Why?" I asked casually. "Why are you asking me these questions?"

Angel’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you for real?!" she exclaimed, her concern turning into mild frustration. "I felt suffocated in Gloria’s presence, even for a moment! But you were in there for so long!"

A faint smile tugged at my lips as I heard her words. Angel was just an employee—someone with no reason to have close contact with Gloria. Of course, she would feel this way.

I had spent countless hours with Gloria in the past, working tirelessly to drive a wedge between Evander and Claire. Yet even with all those encounters, Gloria’s cold, dominating presence was still unbearable.
