Chapter 68: Don’t Let Him Mess With Your Head!

Evander’s POV

"Did I speak a foreign language?" I glared at him, my voice cold and sharp. "Claire is my wife! Claire Reed is Evander Kensington’s wife!" I repeated firmly, leaving no room for doubt.

"Wh... What!?" Zaniel stammered, his jaw practically hitting the floor as a second later we arrived; he had followed behind us.

"Wait... Are you saying that Miss Reed is your wife!?" Zaniel exclaimed, his voice rising with disbelief. "I mean... I thought you were after her because you were her fan or something—or maybe because of Eliam!"

"Stupid!" Damian reacted before I could respond. His tone was dripping with annoyance. "Do you think Evander is the kind of man who would chase after just any woman? Use your brain for once!" He paused, squinting as if piecing together a puzzle. "Now that I think about it... isn’t she the same junior you were head over heels for back in our college days?"

I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to stay calm, but the heat creeping up my neck betrayed me. My ears were turning red, and I could feel their stares boring into me. "Stop talking nonsense," I muttered, trying to brush it off.

"My God, boss!" Zaniel exclaimed, his eyes so wide that they could have popped out of his head. "I mean... I thought you were a playboy since so many women always surrounded you!"

"Well," Damian interjected as he smirked. "I always knew Evander was a romantic at heart, but I never imagined my brother here would be so loyal to one woman for this long!"

I shot him a glare, but deep down, I knew they weren’t wrong. Claire had always been the one for me, even back then. But hearing it out loud like this made me feel how deep my feelings were for Claire and how bad I had been toward her.

"Are we done analyzing my personal life?" I asked curtly, crossing my arms and trying to regain control of the conversation.

Zaniel grinned, clearly enjoying himself. "Not yet, boss. This is too good. So, when were you planning on telling us, huh? After your kids started running around the office?"

"Enough." My tone was firm and final, and the amusement on their faces dimmed a bit, though I could still see the teasing glint in their eyes.

Claire Reed had been a part of my heart for as long as I could remember. And now, as my wife, she was the center of my world. That wasn’t something I needed to explain to anyone.

Claire’s POV

I felt like I was losing my mind because of Evander. On one hand, I couldn’t stand him—he was frustrating and arrogant. But on the other hand, I couldn’t ignore the soft spot I had for him. It was confusing, and it made me feel like I wasn’t in control of my emotions. His words kept running through my head, along with the way he looked at me and how he almost begged me to give him a chance.

No matter how much I tried to stop thinking about him, I couldn’t. Was I angry? Curious? Or was it something else I didn’t want to admit? He was everywhere in my thoughts, no matter how hard I tried to push him away.

What surprised me the most was how he acted with Susan. I always thought something was going on between them because of all the rumors. But this time, he made it clear that none of it was true. The way he spoke to her showed he didn’t care about the gossip, and he had never been in a relationship with her.

That gave me some relief, though I hated to admit it. Maybe it meant he was being honest with me. Maybe it meant his feelings were real.

But even with all of this, I still didn’t know what to do. Could I trust him? Could I trust myself? Every time he tried to get closer, I pulled away. My heart wanted one thing, but my head kept telling me something else, and I didn’t know what to do!

"Damn, gurl! What were you doing inside for so long?" My thoughts were interrupted by Sissy, who appeared out of nowhere and gave me a playful slap on the back.

"Oh, hi!" I greeted her with an awkward smile as I struggled to find the right words. My mind was still racing, and I wasn’t ready to explain everything that had just happened. "It was... good, and... Evander was there," I finally managed to tell her.

"What?! What the hell was he doing there?" Sissy’s eyes widened in shock. "I just saw Susan—that witch—storming out of the audition hall. What happened in there?" Her voice was laced with curiosity, and it was clear she had a few ideas of her own.

I hesitated, as I didn’t know where to begin. Should I tell her about the look in Evander’s eyes, the tension between us, or the way Susan’s presence seemed to stir up more questions than answers?

"Well, he just... showed up," I said finally, avoiding her intense gaze. "And Susan was there, but it wasn’t what I thought. He made it clear there was nothing between them."

Sissy raised an eyebrow. "Nothing between them? Are you sure? That girl looked pissed when she left."

I nodded everything flashed in my head at the way Evander had handled things. "I think she was upset because he denied the rumors, firmly. He said something about not caring about rumors and... honestly, it surprised me."

Sissy crossed her arms. "Huh. So, what’s his deal? Why is he suddenly so interested in you?"

"That’s the thing," I admitted, running a hand through my hair. "I don’t know. He keeps saying he wants a chance, but I don’t know if I can trust him. It’s all just... confusing."

Sissy sighed, her voice softening. "Look, if he is being genuine, you will figure it out. Just don’t let him mess with your head, okay?"
