Chapter 64: Look Into My Eyes!
Evander’s POV
I was in awe, yet a little worried, when Claire suddenly dropped to the floor and coughed a few times. Seeing her in that condition was unbearable, but what angered me more was the producer’s abrupt interruption.
I wanted to reprimand him, but before I could, Damian spoke up. I hadn’t expected much from him, yet, to my surprise, he seemed to have taken a liking to Claire’s acting skills and was eager to see her perform.
Not only did he help her regain her composure, but he also offered her a chance to play one of the lead roles in the movie. At first, I was stunned, but was relived. Finally, this brat was proving himself useful!
However, my relief turned to unease when I glanced at the script he wanted her to act. My heart ached as I read it. The story felt too close to our past, full of pain and my stupidity. I didn’t want her to relive that agony, even in a fictional setting.
Yet, when I saw the determined look in her eyes as she prepared to act, I couldn’t bring myself to stop her. This was her choice, her dream, and I had no right to hold her back.
I still didn’t fully understand why she had quit acting in the past, though I had been grateful when she found success in modeling. But now, as she knelt on the stage and sobbed in anguish, something about her performance felt too real.
It was as though she wasn’t acting at all. Each word that escaped her lips cut through me like a blade, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that her pain was aimed directly at me.
My chest tightened as guilt consumed me. Was she blaming me? Was I the real culprit behind her sorrow?
I was aware that it was all an act but the guilt in me couldn’t distinguish it.
I couldn’t bear it any longer. Before I even realised it, I was walking toward the stage. My voice trembled as I called out, "Claire! I am sorry! I never meant for any of this to happen to you..."
"What!?" She looked up at me, her wide eyes filled with surprise. I was just as shocked at my actions, but I couldn’t let the moment slip away. Her emotions were intense, just right for the character, and I didn’t want to disrupt the momentum she had built so effortlessly.
"I am aware that I hurt you, Lia," I said as I quickly corrected myself and used the character’s name from the script.
Claire blinked a few times. She was clearly confused by my sudden involvement. Her expression shifted as she tried to figure out what I was up to. I could see the question mark on her face.
But soon, those question marks were gone from her face. She realized what I was doing and decided to play along. Her gaze hardened, and a sharp glare of hostility replaced the confused look she just had.
"Hah! Aware?" She snapped as her voice was dripping with bitterness. "Where were you when your girlfriends would come and harass me every single time? They told me to leave you! They always claimed that you belonged to them, and I was nothing to you! Nothing!"
Her voice cracked, and the emotion in her words hit me like a tide. "How could you suddenly show up now and tell me all these stupid things? Do you think I can just forget everything? Do you think I can forgive you so easily?"
Her words, even though it was the part of the script, felt personal—like they were meant for me and not just her character. My chest tightened as guilt churned within me once again.
"I..." I started, my voice faltering. I wasn’t sure how to respond and also didn’t wish to break the line between reality and acting. My throat dried up as I searched for the right words, both as a character and as myself.
She continued, her voice growing louder and more emotional. "You ruined me! You left me when I needed you the most, and now you think you can just waltz back into my life with an apology? Do you even know what I went through because of you?"
Her performance was captivating, but it wasn’t just acting anymore. It felt real, and every . I clenched my fists, my emotions threatening to spill over.
I couldn’t hold back anymore. I dropped to my knees in front of her, pulling her into a tight embrace. "I know, okay? I know I am too late," I said, my voice thick with pain. "But I can’t stand to see you suffer like this anymore. I messed up, and I know I hurt you, but... that was never my intention."
I felt her tense in my arms, but I held on, desperate to make her understand. "I may not have known how to love you the right way before, but I am here now. I want to be the person you need— the one who is there in every moment, through every joy, and through every heartbreak."
I pulled back just enough to look into her tear-streaked face, my own heart breaking. "Please, just give me a chance. I will do anything to bring back your smile. I am not leaving you this time—I will be by your side, no matter what."
I gently wiped her tears as I tilted her chin so her eyes could meet mine. "Please," I whispered, "just look at me. Look into my eyes, and you will see how much you mean to me. I know I haven’t always found the right words, but I want you to see what’s in my heart."
I held her gaze, letting the silence speak for me, hoping she could feel the depth of my devotion. "I may not be perfect at showing it, but everything I am, everything I feel... it’s all here, right in front of you. Just give me a chance to prove it."
