Chapter 151: You Set Me Up!

Evander immediately straightened, taking her question seriously. "We are handling it. You don’t need to worry about anything," he said, his tone softening slightly when he spoke to her.

Damian sighed, glancing at Claire with a more composed expression. "We have gathered some information, and we are narrowing down the leads. For now, just stay safe and let us handle the rest." He said as he looked at Evander and continued.

"While looking for you yesterday, we decided to take action against the person responsible," Damian said, his tone firm. "We have reason to believe that Diana and Harris didn’t just target you. There are likely many others who were ruined by their actions. So, we have decided to dig into their lives and destroy their reputation once and for all."

Evander nodded, his expression resolute. "Give me two days, Claire," he said, his voice calm but filled with determination. "Just two days, and you will see everything exposed in the media. They won’t have a place to hide."

Claire listened, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. While their words gave her a sense of justice, she couldn’t suppress the knot of worry in her chest. "Yes, but I am still worried," she admitted softly, her voice almost a whisper.

Damian placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "I understand, Claire," he said gently. "But I am with you. We will handle everything and we won’t let them hurt you again."

Evander stepped closer, his gaze locking with hers. "You have been through enough already," he said. "Trust me, Claire. This time, they won’t get away with it."

Despite her lingering anxiety, their unwavering confidence made her feel a little more at ease. She nodded slowly, her voice steady as she said, "Alright, I trust you both. Just... be careful."

Caspian, unable to resist, chimed in with a grin. "Don’t worry, sister-in-law. With me on the case, no one will dare mess with you again. You have got the dream team here!"

Claire gave him a skeptical look but couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at her lips. "Dream team, huh? Let’s hope you live up to that title given the kind of person you are," she said, her tone light yet tinged with hope. She was getting Elijah’s vibe from him.

The more Claire talked to Caspian, the more she thought that he reminded her of Elijah. But she ignored it for now; however, she decided to tell Evander about her thoughts.

"Umm... if you are still with him, I would like to go back home and check on Eliam," Claire said, her voice soft yet imploring as she glanced at Damian and Caspian. "He is all alone at home."

"Sure, I will come with you," Evander responded immediately, not even giving her a chance to finish. "Let me call Zaniel. He will drive us back home."

"Fine," Damian said with a shrug. "We will meet at the office later to discuss everything."

"No!" Claire objected firmly, surprising both men with her determined tone. "He is still not fully well! If you want to discuss anything, just come to the house and talk. I am not letting him push himself right now."

Damian raised his hands in mock surrender and rolled his eyes. "Okay, whatever you say, Claire."

Caspian, who had been silent, packed up his things and sighed. "I would love to go back with you, Claire," he said, his usual playful tone subdued, "but I have got an important patient waiting for me. Duty calls, you know."

Claire nodded understandingly. "Take care, Caspian, and thank you for everything."

"You are welcome. And if anything happens, you better call me right away!" Caspian said with a grin before giving her a small wave and exiting the room.

As the door closed behind him, Claire turned to Evander. "Let’s get home quickly. I am worried about Eliam."

Evander gave her a reassuring nod. "Don’t worry, we will be there soon." He pulled out his phone to call Zaniel while Claire gathered her belongings, feeling a sense of relief that everything seemed to be fine now.

"What the hell happened?" Diana muttered under her breath, biting her nails as she paced her room back and forth. Her mind raced, trying to piece together where things had gone wrong.

Everything had been perfectly planned. According to her, Claire was sent to the designated room, and Harris had followed shortly after. But now, both of them had disappeared, and the night’s events had spiraled out of control.

"Where did it all go wrong?" Diana muttered to herself, her frustration bubbling over. Her eyes flicked toward the waiter standing nervously in the corner, the same man who had been her accomplice the previous night.

"Tell me," Diana snapped, her voice sharp as a blade. "Did you really not see anything unusual?"

The waiter fidgeted, his gaze darting to the floor. "Boss, I swear, I made sure Claire went to that room. I personally sent Harris there too. But when I checked later, the room was empty. Both of them were gone!"

"Gone?" Diana hissed, her brows furrowing. "And you didn’t think to find out what happened?"

"I did!" he replied quickly, his voice trembling. "But all I could gather was that some big shot’s wife went missing, and he ordered the entire hotel to be locked down for two hours."

Diana stopped in her tracks, her eyes narrowing as she processed his words. "I know about the lockdown," she said, her tone icy. "But who was the big shot? Did you look into it?"

The waiter hesitated, clearly not sure how to reply. "No, boss. They were too secretive, and security was swarming everywhere. I couldn’t get close."

Diana clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. "Useless!" she spat, glaring at him. "How could you not find out? This was supposed to be foolproof!"

The waiter shrank under her glare but managed to stammer out a reply. "It must have been someone with serious connections. No ordinary person could pull off a hotel lockdown like that."

Diana’s mind raced as she tried to connect the dots. "Who could it be?" she murmured, more to herself than to the waiter. "Was it Evander? No, it can’t be... Or could it?"

Her frustration mounted as the pieces refused to fit together. She paced again, her heels clicking against the floor, her thoughts a storm of suspicion and doubt. If Evander was indeed behind this, it meant her plan had not only failed but also backfired in a way she hadn’t anticipated.

Diana stopped abruptly, her gaze snapping back to the waiter. "Leave," she commanded coldly. "And don’t come back until you have answers."

The waiter nodded quickly, practically fleeing from the room. As the door clicked shut, Diana sank into the nearest chair, her mind already plotting her next move. If someone had interfered with her plans, she needed to find out who—and make them pay.

If it truly was Evander, Diana knew she needed a backup plan to deflect any blame and ensure her safety. Her mind churned with possibilities as she considered her next move. There was no way she would let this fiasco ruin her carefully curated image or future plans.

"What are you thinking about?" a familiar voice interrupted her thoughts. Diana was startled by her mother’s sudden appearance as she entered the room, her sharp gaze fixed on her daughter.

"It’s nothing," Diana replied, masking her anxiety with a practiced smile. "It’s not something you should be worried about."

Her mother frowned slightly but didn’t push further. Diana seized the moment to excuse herself. "I have an important meeting," she added as she looked at her cell phone, which vibrated in her palms, and headed toward the door. She didn’t wait for a reply as she turned on her heels and left the room in haste.

Once outside, Diana went to the parking lot as she approached her car. Sliding into the driver’s seat, she started the engine with an irritated grip on the wheel.

Diana drove through the city streets, her mind preoccupied. Soon, her car came to a halt in front of the hospital.

She glanced at her phone, scanning the updates from her informant. Her eyes narrowed.

"What is that old man doing here?" she muttered, her irritation evident. "Are his kidneys finally giving out?"

Her heels clicked sharply as she walked toward the hospital entrance, her expression cold. If Harris was here to cause trouble, she would handle it quickly and efficiently. To her, anyone who became a liability had no place in her plans.

Diana’s grip on her phone tightened as she read the message again, her lips pressing into a thin line. Without hesitation, she made her way into the hospital and entered Harris’s room.

The sight of her made Harris stiffen, his ashen face turning even paler. The fear in his eyes was unmistakable, but his fury overshadowed it.

"What the hell are you doing here, you bitch?" Harris spat, grabbing whatever was within reach and hurling it at her. A glass nearly hit her, shattering against the wall.

Diana luckily ducked just in time, her eyes flashing with anger. "Are you out of your mind, Mr. Harris?" she snapped, stepping closer. Her voice was low and sharp, carrying an edge of menace. "What the hell is wrong with you?" She looked at him with wide eyes.

Harris gritted his teeth, trembling with rage. "You set me up! Do you have any idea what I have been through because of you?"
