Chapter 133: My wife is very possessive of me,

Claire’s POV

I already felt guilty about how I had acted during the last meeting. It was reckless and only made Susan’s accusations about my character seem true. So, I kept my head down and let them say whatever they wanted.

But when I heard Evander’s voice, my heart skipped a beat. I looked at him, hoping for him to look at me even for a bit, but he didn’t spare me a glance. His focus was entirely on the people ahead of him.

Then there was Eliam. He glanced around the room, his gaze wandering until it met mine. My heart lifted, and I felt a flicker of excitement. But just as I was about to smile, he ignored me completely.

What was wrong with them? I hadn’t done anything wrong, had I? I stood there, waiting for even a glance, but Eliam kept looking everywhere except at me. It felt deliberate as if he was intentionally avoiding me.

"Oh, Mr. Kensington!" Diana’s voice cut through the room as she walked in with a bright smile. She looked as if she had completely recovered from what I had done to her. "It’s been so long, hasn’t it? And who is this?"

Her eyes flickered between me and Eliam, widening briefly as if she had seen something she wasn’t supposed to.

"And who are you?" Evander’s cold voice made her freeze. His glare was sharp and unforgiving. "Do I know you?"

"Ah... I am sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. I am Diana and—"

"I am not here for you," Evander cut her off sharply, his tone ice-cold. "So, can you get lost?"

The irritation in his voice was unmistakable, and Diana’s confident smile faltered as silence settled over the room.

And she had the audacity to say that Evander was dying to marry her, claiming I was the one who interfered in their relationship. How naive and foolish I had been to believe her!

But then again, I was barely twenty. I didn’t know much about the deceitful nature of people in this world back then.

I couldn’t help but chuckle lightly, breaking the tense silence in the room despite my best efforts to stay composed.

"How rude of you!" Diana snapped, glaring at me. "Is this how you work? You seem really unprofessional!"

"Pardon me," I said, quickly masking my amusement. "It’s just... you mentioned having a very special relationship with Mr. Kensington, but it seems he doesn’t even know who you are."

"Excuse me!?" Diana’s eyes widened in shock as she glanced around the room. Everyone was staring at her now, their expressions filled with curiosity and doubt.

It seemed she hadn’t just boasted to me but also to the others here.

Seriously?

"Damian, is this why you called me here? To watch people using my name to get ahead?" Evander’s voice was icy as his sharp gaze shifted from Diana to me.

When his eyes met mine, I shook my head subtly, a silent plea for him to hold back. I didn’t want Diana to get any more attention than she already had.

If she craved attention, then it should be on a grander stage—where the whole world could see her fall.

Diana had insulted my mother, and I was the one who would make sure she, George, and everyone else who treated me badly learned their lesson.

"Well... let’s just ignore it for now. I called you here for something important," Damian said, cutting through the tension.

"I am stopping only because of you," Evander replied, his tone still cold as his gaze shifted briefly to me.

Though his words were directed at Damian, I knew they were meant for me.

"We are hosting a party tonight, Mr. Kensington," the director said as he stepped forward, addressing Evander. "We would like to invite you to join us."

"Is everyone attending?" Evander asked, his tone sharp as his eyes moved across the room to me.

Damian glanced at me before responding, "Yes, we are all going. It’s necessary." Then, with a pointed look at Evander, he added, "And if you are done, can I spend some time with my nephew? It’s been a while since I last saw him."

Evander’s glare darkened as he glared at him. "Do not touch my son. I will take care of him myself."

"Your son, Mr. Kensington? I didn’t know you were married," a voice chimed in as a woman entered the meeting room. Her tone was light, but her words carried a sting. "I thought you hadn’t proposed to me yet, so... who exactly did you marry if not me?"

Evander turned to her with a blank expression. "And who are you?"

The sight of her made my breath hitch. I couldn’t believe she was here. The memories came rushing back— she was one of those who had been cruel to me in the past. One by one, these people were reappearing, as if to torment me all over again.

But this time, I wouldn’t let them break me.

Yet something didn’t add up. Why didn’t Evander recognize her? Hadn’t he dated her when he was in Australia?

My mind raced, piecing together fragments of the past and present, but one thing was clear—I wouldn’t let anyone walk over me again.

"Come on, Evan! It’s me, Jessica," she said cheerfully, stepping forward to hug him.

I felt my chest tighten as my breath hitched, but then I saw Evander take a step back. His expression softened slightly at recognition.

"So, it’s you, Jess," he said, his tone polite but distant.

"Now you remember me!" Jessica said with a playful smile, reaching out again for a hug. But Evander stepped back once more, raising his hand instead for a handshake.

"My wife is very possessive of me," he said coldly, his voice steady. "She would notice a strange scent on me immediately."

Jessica’s smile faltered for a brief moment, but she quickly recovered, her hand hesitating before taking his. "Oh, I didn’t know you were married, Evan..."
