Chapter 130: Forgive Me, Sir
Chapter 130: Forgive Me, Sir
Claire’s POV
They had taken things too far! First, George attacked me for money and almost killed me if not for Evander but...
This time, I wouldn’t bow down.
I exhaled deeply, steadying myself as my resolve grew stronger. They had underestimated me for far too long, but now I would show them who I really was.
"Diana," I said quietly, my voice laced with an eerie calm that even surprised me. She turned her head slightly, narrowing her eyes at me, but there was a flicker of unease in her expression.
She had once again followed behind me! She was really sick in her mind! She was really obsessed with me and I was sure about that!
"You think you have won, don’t you? That you and George have everything under control." My lips curved into a faint, bitter smile. "But if you want to keep coming after me, making my life hell, I will make sure every single thing that belongs to me is taken back. Piece by piece. Do you hear me?"
Diana scoffed, flipping her hair with her usual arrogance, but I noticed the way her hands fidgeted slightly. "You are bluffing. You don’t have what it takes."
I leaned in closer, my gaze locking with hers, unflinching. "You will find out soon enough." I said and turned to look at her, "And this time... do not follow behind me or... I will definitely show what I can do to you!"
As I walked away, my heart raced—a mix of anger, determination, and a lingering ache tugging at me. Despite all the strength I tried to muster, there was still a part of me that felt fragile, that doubted if I could truly face them head-on.
But then I thought of my mother—of everything she had endured and lost because of them. And that fragile part of me hardened just a little more.
I wasn’t doing this just for myself anymore. I was doing it for her. For the life she deserved.
And for the first time, I truly believed I could win.
"Hey, where have you been?" Damian’s voice broke through my thoughts as he flicked his fingers in front of my face, snapping me back to reality. "Come on, let’s go. Our producers and investors are waiting."
"Sure, let’s go," I replied quickly, glancing over my shoulder one last time. Thankfully, Diana hadn’t followed me this time.
As we walked toward the meeting room, Damian gave me a sidelong glance. "So, what did Diana say? Did she try to threaten you or something?"
I froze for a moment, my eyes widening in shock at his question. "Why would you ask that? I— how did you even know?" I stammered, trying to mask my surprise.
Damian shrugged as his tone was calm but knowing. "No need to look so shocked. It’s not hard to figure out. At first, I thought Evander was married to Diana, but later I learned he married her sister— the one who mysteriously disappeared. It didn’t take much to connect the dots."
"Oh," I murmured, lowering my gaze. The mention of those years made my chest tighten. I couldn’t help but wonder how much pain Evander must have endured during that time.
"But why do you think she would threaten me?" I asked, looking back up at him as I feigned nonchalance.
Damian chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Come on, Claire. I have been in this industry long enough to know the type of person Diana is. She thrives on power and manipulation. You, on the other hand, are— well, let’s just say you are the exact opposite of her. She probably sees you as a threat, even if you don’t see yourself that way."
I blinked, caught off guard by his candid response. "Really?" I muttered, avoiding his gaze as I felt a slight pang of guilt.
How could I tell him that it wasn’t Diana who had been threatening me? That, in fact, I had been the one to corner her—promising to destroy her and take back everything she and George had stolen?
Instead, I forced a small and kept walking beside him. "Well, thanks for the insight, Damian. I’ll keep that in mind."
He glanced at me again but didn’t press further. "Good. Just... watch your back with her, Claire. She is not someone to underestimate."
"I will be fine," I said, my voice firm, though my mind swirled with the weight of my own words. I wasn’t the same timid woman Diana once pushed around. This time, it was going to be different.
As we reached the meeting room, I pushed those thoughts aside.
"So, you are finally here," the producer said with a sarcastic smile, his tone dripping with mockery. "You disappeared yesterday. Honestly, I thought you had decided to quit."
"Please forgive me for my actions yesterday," I replied in a calm, soft tone, keeping my head slightly bowed. "I had an urgent personal matter to attend to."
"Really?" he scoffed, crossing his arms as he leaned back in his chair. "Do you think you can come and go as you please without any consequences? This isn’t some playground where you make the rules, Claire."
I bit back my frustration, keeping my expression neutral. "You are absolutely right, sir," I said, my voice steady but humble. "What I did was unprofessional, and I understand why you are upset. I take full responsibility for my actions."
He raised an eyebrow, clearly expecting me to push back or make excuses. When I didn’t, his smirk faltered for a moment.
"You’d better," he muttered, clearly not expecting my calm demeanor. "This project doesn’t run on your schedule, Claire. We have deadlines to meet, and everyone here is counting on each other. If this happens again, you are out. Is that clear?"
"Crystal clear, sir," I said firmly, raising my head just enough to meet his gaze. "It won’t happen again." I tried hard to control the urge to roll my eyes.
