Chapter 491: Potential partner
Jenny’s eyes narrowed when Gavin averted his gaze from her and chuckled. "She must have missed to tell you about me. I am her childhood friend" he justified.
Jenny found Gavin’s words a little unconvincing, but then she remembered she knew nothing about Bianca’s childhood. She met her when they were studying medicine together.
From being roommates to best friends and then working in the same hospital, Jenny had been with Bianca. But never once did she find herself speaking about her family or her childhood.
’So maybe he is telling the truth’ she thought and quickly withdrew her suspicion about him.
"I see.." she finally gave him an assuring response, that calmed him down.
Gavin didn’t want to lie but knowing the severity of exposing his identity behind searching for Bianca would land him into big trouble.
Sitting silently on their seats, the two finished drinking their respective coffees and soon decided to leave.
Walking behind Jenny, Gavin eyed the girl curiously from behind. She turned out to be quite smarter than he assumed her to be and it kind of surprised him.
That day, when she sat along with the group of doctors, she appeared to be quite reserved, barely speaking until suddenly she raised her voice to say something, but someone’s warning glare stopped her from doing so and she hid back into her shell, only to surprise him out of the blue.
The thought of her secretly throwing the note into his lap while leaving the table left him startled, but he didn’t show any kind of reaction on his face and remained unbothered.
Thinking about that time, unknowingly a subtle grin curled in the corner of his lips but that grin soon faded when his eyes caught the sight of Jenny moving ahead.
After getting her phone number, Gavin tried to call her so she could save him but he forgot that his thoughts about her were coming in between his actions.
With her head down, Jenny kept looking for her phone inside her sling bag. Knowing it was Gavin who was calling her. It would have made sense if he had just given her a missed call just so she could save it later. But no, instead of doing that he kept the call ringing until it annoyed her.
Busy fishing her phone inside her bag, she failed to notice a group of school girls entering inside the coffee shop until she heard a loud voice from behind.
"Jenny..."
Stopping her actions, she turned around, giving Gavin confusion when her back hit the glass door and she fell forward ready to hit her face on the marble floor.
"Ah..." her mouth wide open in shock quickly pursed and her eyes closed as she waited for her body to land down but...
’Huh! Did I hit it already? Then why don’t I feel any pain and...what is the floor so firm yet warm’
With her mind busy thinking about the upcoming, Jenny failed to see the reality until a concerned-filled voice reached her ears and she snapped open her eyes only to find herself hugged by Gavin.
Blinking her eyes a few times when the realization has finally drawn into her, a blush crept on both her cheeks a wave of embarrassment hitting right into her guts.
Standing still in his embrace, Jenny didn’t dare to pull. She felt so flabbergasted that she tried to hide it from him.
The group of girls had already walked past them but the two remained rooted on their spot with no one intending to pull away.
Gavin stood frozen but the worry in his mind didn’t seem to stop. He had managed to stop her body from falling but even after a minute passed by, Jenny remained unmovable.
’Why isn’t she answering’ he thought as a frown took over his concern and he asked out a little loud.
"Jenny, are you alright?" though he was loud, he still managed to maintain the gentleness in his tone.
Jenny who was surprised with his words, slowly pulled back. With her head down, she tucked the strand of hair behind her ear and bobbed her head.
"I-I am fine" she replied without lifting her head.
Gavin found her reaction a little confusing, and before he could say anything further, Jenny swiftly turned around with her back facing him once again.
Gavin stood confused by her sudden retreat and heard her say," I’ll get going first" she said reaching her hand to pull the glass door open but stopped.
"Don’t worry, I have your number now. I’ll keep you updated about Doctor Martin’s schedule" With that she swiftly opened the door and walked out leaving Gavin baffled in his spot.
"Was she blushing?" word left his mouth as he watched her retreating figure through the glass door, confused.
It took him a moment to snap out of his thoughts when his phone rang. Averting his gaze from her, Gavin looked at the screen. It was a call from Tristan once again.
Curiosity took over his confusion and he finally answered the call.
"Gavin, I want you in my office now" his words left Gavin bewildered, but soon he agreed to his words and left the shop the next instant.

Stepping into the tall building, Gavin made his way to his brother’s office. Those who recognized him respectfully bowed their head while those who did, kept admiring his handsomeness, comparing it to their boss.
Avoiding their curious gaze, Gavin finally reached Tristan’s cabin and knocked on the door. He had no clue why his brother wanted to meet him, but watching his number missed call, he presumed it was something important.
"Come in" his voice snapped him out of his thoughts and he forced the door open and stepped inside.
As soon as Tristan watched him, he asked," You seem quite busy to even answer my calls. Are your friends keeping you so occupied that you left home as soon as the breakfast ended" his lips curling into an amusing grin, but his words held a sense of sarcasm.
Gavin walked towards his desk and pulled a chair for himself before sitting on it. "Yes, they seem to be too happy with my return" he lied with the same sarcasm.
Gavin could sense Tristan didn’t call him to discuss about his friends. Instead, he could tell there was something he wanted to ask him.
"So brother, what is that you want to ask? I know you didn’t call me to talk about my friends right" Tristan was amused by how quick-witted Gavin turned out to be after getting into the military.
There was this uncanny aura around him that made Tristan proud of his decision. Finally, Gavin turned out to be one of them.
"So you did get me, finally" he smiled looking at his brother.
Gavin didn’t mind anything that came from his brother. He admired him a lot and the purpose behind his enlisting in the Army was because he wanted to be someone like him. Though their profession would be different he would still be his brother.
When Gavin smiled back, Tristan dropped all the serious humor and came straight to the point.
"Where have you been yesterday" he asked. A serious glint of shine crossing through his blue eyes.
Gavin stilled on his seat, as he wasn’t expecting him to inquire about his arrival late at night. He thought his lie was enough to make him forget it, but guess he was wrong.
Anxiousness slowly takes over his playfulness with the smile of his freezing on his words. He tried to access Tristan’s expression but failed to see through his calmness.
"A-As I said... I was with my friends" he fumbled a little as he failed to look into his eyes, suddenly anxiousness crawling into his body.
Gavin hated lying to his brother. He was the only person whom he could open up to, but knowing the words he gave to his superior, he couldn’t oppose it.
Tristan arched his brow amusingly and leaned behind with both his palms clasped together and his elbows resting on the chair’s armrest as he observed his brother lie right into his face.
If it was Gwen, he would have brushed it off without pondering much, but Gavin who had always been sincere with him, was now lying to him.
Eyeing him for a few more seconds Tristan clicked his tongue. "If you say so, then you must surely be with your friends"
Tristan concluded that whatever Ashley said about Gavin was true, but with him lying about it, he could finally conclude that whatever he was doing was confidential and no matter how curious he was, he respected his decision to keep it away from him.
Gavin observed his brother for a minute and when he found his response convincing, he breathed a sigh of relief.
After a small pause, Gavin asked," Anything else you want to talk about, brother"
Gavin just wanted to leave before Tristan made him even more uncomfortable with his unexpected inquiries. He knew there was a thin line between his calmness and he didn’t want to panic if his brother happened to trigger some words that would catch him red-handed.
Patiently waiting for a reply, Gavin silently looked at Tristan who seemed to be thinking something. His silence was turning overbearing but he knew there was something he still wanted to ask.
"Now that you have returned for a small break, do you mind me introducing you to some potential suitors?" changing the topic, Tristan presented his mother’s words in front of Gavin, leaving him speechless.
