Chaos' Heir -
Chapter 1276: Plea
Chapter 1276: Plea
The Kros were genuinely speechless, and the same went for Khan’s relatives and anyone watching the negotiations through the tall sphere’s broadcast.
Khan’s revelations didn’t just border on insanity. It delved into it and pushed it further, giving new meaning to schizophrenia delusions. Yet, something did work in his favor.
Everyone could see that Khan believed each one of his words. That didn’t make them true or factual, but they remained something worth taking into consideration.
The Scarlet Eyes had little to do with that, at that initial phase, at least. The topic’s core was with Khan’s offer and the immense generosity it conveyed.
People often lied during political meetings. That was the norm and accepted practice. Negotiations were battles of information, knowledge, and influence meant to seize the slightest leverage over opponents.
So, as unusual as it was, it wasn’t unheard of for some parties to come up with the wildest lies or fake stories to achieve a modicum of advantage or simply buy some time. The political book had endless tricks and strategies, but they all had one thing in common, which Khan didn’t respect or try to establish.
Political strategies aimed at ensuring benefits, but Khan was doing the exact opposite. He was offering everything he had painstakingly obtained throughout the years in exchange for aid in a battle that might never come. Khan was staking all he had against an enemy only he seemed to know about.
More superficial or uncaring species would have jumped at the opportunity to exploit that offer. The Orlats probably wouldn’t have hesitated to agree to those terms, ignoring their side of the deal until the time came, only to decide what to do at that point.
Instead, the Kros and most parties on the other side of the broadcast couldn’t help but focus on the unfavorable deal itself. Since Khan was ready to offer so much, there had to be some truth to his fears.
Also, Khan had mentioned the Thilku Empire and its Emperor. Those were forces the universe couldn’t ignore, especially when Khan added himself to that equation. Delusional or not, Khan wasn’t someone who could be taken lightly, especially when the Thilku had his back.
The tall sphere processed the new information to no end, adding it to the Kros’ database, but no answer came. The writings inside the enneagram kept scrolling, showing no sign of stopping.
Khan didn’t expect the Kros to provide an immediate answer. Promises of military allegiance weren’t something that could be decided on the spot, even when it came to such a heavily networked species.
The Kros also were in a peculiar situation, which made the actual existence of the Scarlet Eyes a secondary issue. Those aliens weren’t in a political vacuum. They still had humankind to address in the hope of increasing the negotiation’s benefits, but Khan’s revelations had revolutionized the playing field.
Moreover, Khan wasn’t done with his revelations. He had explained the most important part and key topic, but there was something he had to add. That wasn’t wise, but it could help justify his request.
“Finding the Nak’s home world was one of the main aspects of my quest,” Khan announced, “And I succeeded.”
That revelation was no less shocking. The entire regulated universe and beyond knew about that mysterious species, and most of it held a grudge against it.
Still, Khan didn’t give anyone time to respond to that revelation.
“My wife and I plan to head there immediately,” Khan declared. “The trip will be long and arduous, but I deem it necessary. The genes the Nak planted in me compel this journey, and I plan to complete it.”
Revealing that departure could open the gates for an endless series of worst-case scenarios. After all, Khan was a natural deterrent, and his absence could embolden his enemies or those who didn’t believe his story to attack his domain.
Theoretically, Khan’s domain belonged to the Thilku Empire, and its terrifying shadow could stop any attack before it even came close to taking shape.
However, attacks in those environments didn’t necessarily have a military nature. They could happen in many forms, and Khan didn’t have the best political stability now. Many parties were angry at him for various reasons, and his offer could increase that number or deepen the hostility since some might lose a monopoly over his resources.
Moreover, the journey itself was a problem. Khan didn’t reveal how long it would last, but its shortest iteration would take over a year.
The contents of the Nak’s home world were also unclear. They could add months, years, or even decades to Khan’s journey, and he felt unable to rule any of that out. After all, the quest involved a species that embodied the very mana.
Therefore, the Thilku Empire’s shadow might waver at some point. Enough time might pass, making the very memory of Khan nothing more than a tiny dot in the history of the universe.
Claims about Khan’s betrayal or death might swarm and go beyond the network, forcing the Thilku Empire to reconsider its stance on him and accept deals that could damage his authority. That would be far from easy, but time had a way of making the impossible possible.
So, Khan didn’t plan to leave things at that declaration. He had never intended to. His force had multiple safety nets, and more were bound to arrive, but something had to be said.
“I will come back,” Khan promised. “My wife and I will return from this journey carrying more knowledge and power. I’ll probably have something concrete about the Scarlet Eyes by then, so please listen to my request.”
Khan didn’t do begging, and those negotiations were no exception. His wording might have hinted at that, but his following lines dispelled any misgivings.
“Don’t force me to destroy you all once I return,” Khan almost implored, his face showing nothing but firm resolve. “This war will demand everything our side of the universe has to offer, so don’t give me a reason to burn parts of it to the ground.”
Khan looked at Muhsin at that point, knowing that the alien would experience the full weight of his following words. “And make no mistake. I will kill you all, even if the Scarlet Eyes end up winning because of it.”
