Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Monster’s Attack (02)
The Voidmaw lashed out with intense anger, its tentacles reaching everywhere to attack.
One of the tentacles wrapped around Aerich’s leg and pulled him to the ground. Aerich grunted in pain as he hit the dirt, the soil quickly flying into his eyes.
"Fuck, man," he grunted as the monster dragged him across the ground. He quickly grabbed a dagger from his belt and slashed at the tentacle.
The creature roared in pain and let go. Ivis rushed forward and struck the Voidmaw with his sword, cutting its overexcited tentacles, which were constantly reaching for him.
But it was to no avail; even the severed tentacles started moving on their own and attacked them.
"What kind of lecherous monster is this, still moving after being severed from its body?" Orion muttered while kicking away a piece of the tentacle. The bloodied thing was trying to wrap around his leg.
The texture of the Voidmaw’s tentacles was so disgusting that Orion felt sick and struggled not to throw up. The outer side was slimy and covered in thick mucus that stuck to anything it touched.
The underside was even worse, with rows of fleshy suckers that pulsed and wriggled as if they were alive. These suckers oozed a strange liquid as they tried to latch onto their target.
The suckers pressed against Orion’s clothes, trying to break through and suck his blood. It felt horrifying, like dozens of tiny mouths trying to devour him.
If the tentacle had touched his bare skin, it would have been much worse. The suckers would have stuck to him like leeches, gripping him so tightly that he couldn’t escape.
The liquid they secreted would burn like acid, draining his strength while holding him in place. Just the thought of it made Orion shudder, knowing one mistake could lead to that nightmare.
He chopped another tentacle that was coming toward him, but the severed parts still wiggled and approached them, like they had minds of their own.
No matter how much they chopped, the tentacles still acted like that, and it only increased their number.
Orion was not the only one who had found himself in this situation. All the trainees were facing the same struggle.
"You have to burn it. That is the only way to kill them!" Keren shouted behind them.
"Fuck, man! Where will we get fire here?" Alistair responded while constantly chopping at the tentacles reaching for him. The monster was too intelligent; it did not allow anyone to come close to it.
Its tentacles kept it safe, and even though they had severed countless tentacles, it grew new ones.
The fight seemed endless.
"Do you think we are some sort of wizards who can create fire from nowhere?" Oronik also shouted.
He was very irritated after severing so many tentacles. It was like a huge kraken with endless tentacles.
And Keren’s suggestion was also not helpful. From where would they find the time to create fire to burn this monster?
"Instead of lamenting, listen first," Keren shouted back, his expression angry. These fools did not even listen before cursing aloud. He wanted to open their heads to see if they were filled with straw, because he believed it.
"Cassian, here, take this and try to pour it on the monster," Keren said while throwing a blue liquid bottle at him.
Cassian instantly caught it and nodded at him.
He charged at the Voidmaw. Its tentacles whipped through the air, but he dodged them skillfully.
He jumped onto its back and drove his sword deep into the base of its neck. The creature thrashed wildly, trying to throw him off.
But he balanced himself and directly poured the liquid at the top of its head.
Then, he leaped off its massive body.
"Burn..." Keren murmured slowly, and the Voidmaw was instantly engulfed in flames.
As the Voidmaw’s massive body burned, its shrieks echoed through the forest, sending chills down everyone’s spine.
The fire spread rapidly across its slimy form, consuming it entirely. The trainees watched in awe as the seemingly invincible monster began to crumble into ash.
Orion, wiping sweat from his brow, stared at the flames in disbelief. "Damn, that was... incredible," he muttered. His usual calm composure was replaced with genuine admiration.
Kallus sheathed his sword, his expression a mix of relief and amazement. "I’ve never seen anything like that. That liquid burned it faster than I thought possible."
Oronik exhaled heavily, his frustration giving way to a rare grin. "Finally, something that works against that damned thing. Cassian, you’re quick on your feet. Good job."
Cassian nodded, brushing the soot from his clothes. "It wasn’t just me," he said, glancing at Keren. "He had the solution all along."
Keren crossed his arms and said with an indifferent face, "Of course I did. While you lot were busy chopping tentacles, I actually thought ahead. You’re welcome."
Alistair, still struggling with the severed tentacles writhing around him, called out, "Hey, Keren! Toss me some of that magic liquid, would you? These things are still coming at me!"
Keren raised an eyebrow and snorted. "Magic liquid? Do you think this stuff grows on trees? I’m not wasting it on your mess."
Alistair groaned, stomping his foot like a child denied candy. "Come on! Don’t be so stingy. Just one bottle!"
"Not a chance," Keren replied sharply, turning his back. "Figure it out yourself. Maybe you should stop whining and start thinking for once."
Alistair glared at Keren. "You’re the worst, you know that? Stingy bastard."
With no other choice, Alistair muttered curses under his breath and used his sword to fling the severed tentacles into the still-burning flames of the Voidmaw’s corpse. "Stupid tentacles. Stupid Keren."
The others followed Alistair’s lead, carefully tossing the wriggling pieces of the Voidmaw into the fire. Aerich grimaced as he kicked one with his boot, making sure it landed squarely in the flames. "I’m going to have nightmares about these things."
Lyris nodded, a small smile on his face. "At least it’s over. That thing won’t be bothering us anymore."
Morren shook his head, sheathing his blade with a sigh. "Not the cleanest fight, but a win is a win."
As the last of the tentacles burned away, Keren smirked, clearly pleased with himself. "See? Sometimes brains are more useful than brawn. Maybe you should all try it sometime."
Cassian chuckled quietly, while Alistair glared at Keren, muttering, "Stingy know-it-all..." under his breath.
