Chapter 55: The Black Viper
Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Black Viper
She could feel the predatory gaze on her.
Her body became tense; she was familiar with this presence, maybe more than familiar; every inch of her body was screaming the same word to her, and that is to run.
And what? Without a second thought, she dashed in the opposite direction of the foreboding presence behind her, like her life was depending on, or really it was.
Oh, snake goddess! I know you don’t like me. But can you please let me leave a few days without any heart attack? She could not help but curse her damn luck; the snake goddess really did not pity her, or how could someone’s luck be this so damn rotten?
She knew she would have to encounter him one day; it was impossible to not meet him, but this soon, Forgive her, but she is not ready.
She wanted to scream at the top of her lungs but felt powerless to do so. The frustration was building inside her little stomach; nothing is going right in her life.
Just as she was cursing the 18th generation of her damn luck, she found herself immobile; as much as she wanted to slither away from there, it became impossible.
She looked behind and found a black tail line with golden runes holding her body in place and slowly rapping itself on her body.
A look of horror passed on her face. holy moly! what the? How could he... She started shuttering as she felt a shudder pass through her body.
and slowly murmured, He is really here!
A hiss sounded above her head, and her head snapped towards the source of it, and then he came into her view, a massive black viper, and his golden eyes, which were shining with the dangerous glint in the darkness of night. His massive stature would be almost invincible in the darkness if not for his golden eyes and the beautiful golden runes that covered his entire body.
Lyra hated to admit this, but she really liked the golden runes on his body; it was too cool, giving a deadly vibe but at the same time dangerously bewitching.
Lyra came out of her trance when she heard another hissing, louder, and it seemed like it was filled with anger.
She cursed herself for ogling like this and said with the sweetest voice she could muster,
Hello, big brother, nice to see you.
but the hissing only gets intensified and the grip on her body tightens painfully. Now what he wants? Why does he seem to be even angrier? should see have said more? like asking, How is life going on? Lyra thought in her mind, a question mark appearing on her forehead, her head tilting on the side cutely.
What did you do to him? She heard a deep authoritarian voice above her that sent chills down her spine—the same familiar voice from years ago. How much time had passed, she couldn’t tell. but the attractiveness and arrogance in his voice remain the same.
But wait a minute, what did he ask? What did you do to...him? Did he see what I did? And how much did he see? And from what time he was there and watching them? She didn’t even know. She is still too week to find his presence until he shows himself.
Lyra found herself tongue-tied; she did not know how to respond because she feared her response would definitely reveal everything to him. and she could not risk this at all.
I didn’t understand. What are you trying to say, big brother? Lyra said with a fake innocent expression and her big eyes watery.
He narrowed his eyes at her innocent answer, who was clearly trying to distance herself from any responsibilities.
If he had arrived at the exact time when he felt her presence here, he would have found out what this little rascal is up to because of his late arrival. He missed everything.
But when he checked on everything, Cassian was fine and in a deep slumber; if she had really done that, the consequences would have been surely different and not a peaceful sleep.
But still he tries to conform with her, and seeing her innocent answer, His doubt grew more.
She would have been aware and warned of this. So it’s not possible that she will willingly do that, knowing the consequence will be dire, but still he asked.
Lyra felt the pressure of his gaze intensify, the tension in the air palpable. The massive black viper coiled closer, his golden eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that sent shivers down her spine.
"What did you do to him?" he demanded again, his voice low and commanding, echoing in the darkness. She could sense the power behind his words, and the air felt thick with unspoken accusations.
Lyra swallowed hard, her mind racing. She had to play this carefully. "I didn’t understand; what are you trying to say, big brother?" she replied, feigning innocence, her wide eyes sparkling with faux confusion.
He narrowed his eyes, not buying her act for a second. "You know exactly what I mean. You’re always getting into trouble, Lyra. Stay away from him, This is not the right time. I won’t warn you again."
Each word was a warning, a weight pressing down on her. The grip of his tail was tight, but her focus remained on finding a way to escape. She nodded slowly, a sweet smile plastered on her face. "Okay, big brother," she said, her tone sugary and deceptively submissive.
His reaction was immediate—a sharp intake of breath, as if her words had struck a nerve. "I am not your big brother," he grunted, irritation lacing his voice. With a swift motion, he released her from his grip, slithering back into the shadows.
Lyra stood there, momentarily dumbfounded. What just happened? She watched him disappear, a mix of emotions swirling within her.
"Who wants to call you big brother anyway?" she muttered under her breath, her brows knitting together in frustration. "Just an overpowering big snake, acting like he can dominate everyone..."
Her heart raced as she tried to shake off the lingering fear and irritation. Sure, he was powerful, but she wouldn’t be cowed so easily.
After all, she had her own tricks up her sleeve and who the hell is he to determine whether she can meet Cassian or not.
He is just like his master that demon, both set on ruining her and Cassian’s life. With a determined huff, she turned and headed in the opposite direction.
