Chapter 125: Chapter 125: he had numerous ways to tame this naughty cat.

Meanwhile, of course, Dorian had ducked right away in time, and the knife fell on the floor with a loud clang, making everyone’s heads snap toward Cassian at once.

The entire room froze at the unexpected scene. No one had expected this.

No one had expected Leader Hayes—the ever-composed, disciplined, and deadly warrior—to suddenly hurl a knife at the master of the household.

The house where they were actually staying. A person would think twice before attacking the owner of the house, but their leader did not even think twice. All the knights felt like they had seen a new side of their leader, with astonishment in their eyes.

Cassian, meanwhile, was staring at his own hand as if it had betrayed him.

Why the hell did he just do that?

Oh, right. It was because of that bastard.

That smug, insufferable, shameless bastard.

He was already irritated by the constant stare and was not able to control his hands when he heard him mentioning him. He did not want to even look at his face and definitely not hear his voice, so he hurled whatever was in his hands without thinking twice. But now, he was starting to regret it.

Now, with all eyes on him, Cassian was caught in an unfortunate predicament.

How was he supposed to explain this?

That he had been so enraged by this man’s smirk that he had lost control and nearly committed treason in broad daylight?

That he had been harassed just hours before?

That the City Lord had touched him without permission?

...That he had enjoyed it?

Cassian gritted his teeth and forcibly erased that last thought from existence.

None of this changed the fact that what happened was harassment! Just because his stupid body reacted did not mean that he had consented! That bastard had bitten him without permission!

He was absolutely justified in wanting to kill him.

Cassian was about to speak, but before he could, Dorian’s voice rang out, smooth and unbothered, pouring oil onto an already raging fire.

"Ahem, Leader Hayes... did I do something wrong?"

Cassian saw red.

His fingers twitched toward his knife again before he clenched them into a tight fist. If he threw another one, there would be no talking his way out of it.

Dorian’s lips curved ever so slightly, and Cassian knew he was enjoying this.

That bastard.

Cassian glared at him so hard that if looks could kill, the man would have died a thousand deaths already. His blood was boiling, his hands itching to grab Dorian and drag him outside where no one could witness the very thorough beating the City Lord was about to receive.

What Cassian did not know was that Dorian would be more than happy to be dragged away—anywhere. And what would happen after that? Well, that would be decided by him.

But for now, there was another mess to clean up.

Cassian took a deep breath and forced himself to respond.

"My bad, Lord," he said through gritted teeth. "It was a slip of the hand. I was trying to cut my fruit with a knife. I did not realize when it... slipped."

A knife.

A deadly throwing knife.

The same knife that had embedded itself in monster skulls and enemy throats without fail—had apparently slipped from Cassian’s hands.

A blatant lie.

A laughably unbelievable excuse.

But Cassian said it with a straight face.

His knights, who knew him best, immediately looked at him like he had grown another head.

The knife slipped? From Leader Hayes’ hand?

Impossible.

Leader Hayes did not make mistakes when handling sharp weapons. If anyone else had said this, maybe they would have believed it, but their leader? Impossible.

No.

Absolutely not.

Their expressions twitched as if struggling between disbelief and outright questioning their leader’s words. But then—Cassian turned and shot them one deadly glare.

Instantly, their doubts evaporated.

Not a single one of them dared to utter a word.

They swallowed their suspicions immediately, their throats working as they forced themselves to nod in agreement.

Yes. Of course. The knife slipped.

They would believe it.

Now they had to believe it.

Otherwise, they would face something far worse than Cassian’s bad aim—a direct sparring session with him, which was essentially a death sentence.

The rest of the hall remained silent, everyone holding their breath, waiting to see how the City Lord would respond.

Dorian, meanwhile, was having the time of his life.

He had watched the entire sequence unfold, from Cassian’s furious reaction to his hilariously pathetic attempt at an excuse. His knights’ internal suffering only made it better.

Dorian’s lips curled slightly as he rested his chin against his knuckles.

Cute.

That was the only word that came to mind.

To him, Cassian was just too adorable.

His expressions, his reactions, his pure, undiluted fury—Dorian wanted to engrave every single one into his mind. If it were up to him, he would take Cassian away from this dining hall right this instant, pin him down somewhere private, and admire every little scowl, every little twitch of his lips, every glare that was only meant for him.

Because no one else was allowed to see it.

Only he was allowed to look at his love like this.

The knights, if they had any idea what was going on in Dorian’s mind, would have collectively protested in horror and maybe taken him to check his eyes.

Because to them, Leader Hayes, with his sharp, murderous aura and his deadly glare directed at the City Lord, felt anything but cute. If they decided to be truthful, it felt more like he was the King of Yama and had directly come from hell to drag people back into it.

There was nothing cute about him.

But Dorian thought otherwise. He thought Cassian was utterly, devastatingly adorable. And he wanted to see more of it.

He could not wait to see the other sides of Cassian too. After realizing just how much Cassian had changed from the past, he could feel it—Cassian was no longer the same person he had once been. Now, he had become a wild cat ready to claw his way out. And that thought made Dorian smile with a proud expression.

But don’t worry, he had numerous ways to tame this naughty cat.
