Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Teasing

"Your face seems unusually red... Are you alright? Should I call the physician?" he replied with a soft voice. But if one took notice of his voice, they could hear a little amusement hiding behind the gentle tone.

But Cassian did not, because he was too flustered to notice anything. His mind was already going in another direction, and after hearing the concerned voice of the City Lord, even his face started flushing like a red tomato.

"I am... m alright, my Lord. It’s because I have just woken up, and that was taking a toll on my body," Cassian lied with a straight face. He had to hide his embarrassed face one way or another. Why not just blame it on sickness?

"Huh! What are you doing, my Lord?" Cassian shrieked and jumped a few meters away from the City Lord, his voice shuddering with nervousness and disbelief.

He was just lost for a few seconds in his thoughts. He did not even know when the Lord’s hand came towards his forehead.

He only realized it when he felt a cold touch on his forehead. "Damn! It was too cold and comforting on his forehead," the thought crept into Cassian’s mind, which made Cassian’s face become even redder.

Now even he did not know if it was flushing with shame or anger at himself. Why did he not realize when he had become such a pervert that he was acting like this over someone’s touch?

"I was just checking if you had a fever that made your face flush like this." Now the man’s voice was more genuine and full of concern. He was fully unaware of what his actions were doing to Cassian.

But looking at Cassian’s reaction, a slow amused smile curled on his lips as he realized what was going on in his mind. But too bad Cassian could not see it as his face was obstructed with a mask.

The City Lord walked back towards the table and leaned back on his grand chair, slowly regarding Cassian with an amused glint in his eyes.

For a long moment, no words were spoken except for the soft rustle of fine fabric. Then, in a tone that was both gentle and teasing, he said, "You seem rather uneasy, Sir Cassian. Perhaps you are reminded of someone?"

Cassian’s heart skipped a beat. For a fleeting instant, he wondered if his mind was playing tricks on him. He had often found himself comparing the intensity in the City Lord’s eyes with that of Prince Dorian.

The thought sent a flush across his cheeks, yet he forced himself to remain silent. He blinked hard, struggling to find the right words, but the City Lord merely raised an eyebrow, maintaining a straight face that belied a hidden smile.

"Do not be alarmed by my words," the City Lord continued, his tone calm and measured. "I merely observe. You are constantly searching for someone’s face in me." He said with a chuckle, and his expression became more pleased as he looked at the baffled expression of Cassian. He had hit the nail correctly.

"No... That’s not like that. The Lord is not seeing correctly. How could..." Cassian formed words to deny his allegation, but he found his mouth stuttering with a non-believable answer that even he might not believe.

And his expression and nervousness had surely given him away—that the man in front of him was correct.

"Don’t mind my words... I am just teasing you. You seemed tense a few seconds earlier," the man lied with a straight face and decided to drop his teasing because he was sure if he did it one more time, Cassian would surely run away from here.

So he decided to let him go now; there were still plenty of opportunities for him to play with Cassian.

Cassian swallowed, his mind reeling from the unexpected teasing. His pulse pounded in his ears as he forced himself to nod, trying to mask the fluster that had taken over his features. He was both intrigued and unsettled by the comparison to Prince Dorian, yet he dared not ask further.

The way he talked was just too similar to Prince Dorian, and even his constant teasing was exactly the same.

After a moment of silence, the City Lord decided to change the topic so he would not raise any suspicion on... ahm? You know.

"Galdreth has changed entirely from a year ago. Now it is hardly a recognizable city," he stated in a full, compassionate voice that reflected the sorrow of a leader.

"For over a year, countless monster tides have appeared in Galdreth. With each wave, the population of the city dwindled, forcing people to flee from Galdreth to nearby cities." But they also hardly made it to other cities as they were ambushed by groups of monsters.

The City Lord leaned down dangerously towards Cassian and whispered in a grim voice, "Even the previous City Lord was not spared from the wrath of the monsters. He was torn down by an angry herd of monsters when he tried to forcefully control them."

Cassian felt a chill on his back as he heard the gruesome death of the previous City Lord and why the new City’s Lord’s words were more inclined toward the monsters rather than the previous City Lord. Almost as if he did not have any pity for the previous Lord of Galdreth.

"Is he not afraid that maybe... Not that he was wishing for it... but that his outcome would be the same as the previous Lord?" Cassian wondered, but he did not say it aloud.

"Or maybe it was him who was overthinking. Anyway, the man in front of him did not say any wrong words at all. It was just his feelings, but he could not decide purely on feelings alone.

"Maybe the Lord knows something that’s attracting the monsters here?" Cassian asked on a whim as he wanted to change the topic, but he never thought the man would actually reply.

"Maybe there is something that belongs to them, and they are here to claim it back."
