Chapter 141: 141. Successfully Completed Rehearsal (Thanks to All Rewarding Readers! 5/5)
"Even if we’re photographed, it’s not a big deal. The company will handle it quietly."
"That’s no good. It’s still better to be cautious."
Li Chenglu couldn’t risk someone else’s future, especially not for an idol she liked.
Forget about her. If Liu Xin’an knew, the two of them would probably end up fighting again.
It wasn’t like they were kids anymore. If she were fifteen, twenty years younger, Li Chenglu would have no problem beating Liu Xin’an into submission.
Now though...
If possible, she’d rather outwit him verbally!
"Alright..."
"I did think about it. The stage area is pretty dark. You should be aware of that, Juhyun."
"Yeah."
"In those conditions, unless the organizers find out in advance, it’s unlikely you’d be discovered. If you’re careful, sneaking in isn’t that hard."
"Oh!" Bae Juhyun looked utterly amazed. She was unfamiliar with this so-called ’broken little site,’ so whatever Li Chenglu said, she had to believe it.
"Anyway, don’t tell Liu Xin’an about this. He definitely wouldn’t agree."
"Okay!"
Bae Juhyun nodded and continued typing a message to her boyfriend on her phone.
This time, however, after she sent the text, there was no immediate reply.
Bae Juhyun waited for a while. When she still didn’t get an answer, she put her phone away and picked up the fruit juice in front of her.
"Didn’t get a reply?"
"He’s probably busy."
Bae Juhyun was right. Liu Xin’an was indeed busy.
But... if Bae Juhyun knew what Liu Xin’an was busy with at that moment, she would probably be fuming.
This event wasn’t just open to the top 100 creators.
Since it was an award ceremony, there were bound to be some performances.
Sure, it wasn’t as big as New Year’s Eve or the Spring Festival Gala, but there were promotions for smaller creators and warm-up acts by celebrities.
At the moment, Liu Xin’an was surrounded by three elaborately made-up girls, showing a nervous but polite smile.
As Daxiang had said before, his appearances always drew a lot of attention. Such that whenever he showed up, he would be on the homepage. So, many smaller creators wanted to get some of that popularity.
Most of these girls taking photos with Liu Xin’an were unfamiliar to him. The only thing he knew was that they were all creators from the dance category, the most mysterious area of the site.
The audit standards for this category were so enigmatic that it remained a mystery. Liu Xin’an was curious but didn’t dare to ask.
After stiffly taking photos with this group of excited girls, Liu Xin’an, who always upheld his gentlemanly conduct, quickly reported the news to his girlfriend.
He received a photo of Bae Juhyun pretending to be displeased in response, which made Liu Xin’an laugh.
"Do you like Irene too, Xin’an?"
The voice from behind startled Liu Xin’an. He quickly turned off his phone screen and spun around, relaxing when he saw who it was.
"Old Ju, you scared me. I thought it was someone else."
"Geez, why the guilty look? I saw you taking photos with those girls just now."
Wang Laoju, one of the site’s early game creators, had come to greet him.
Wang Laoju was Liu Xin’an’s ultimate inspiration. After gaining fame, he invested his money into creating a game himself.
They often chatted, with Wang Laoju venting about his troubles, while Liu Xin’an urged him to release the game sooner...
He didn’t expect Wang Laoju to show up. This guy was usually quite lazy.
And... he actually knew Bae Juhyun? Surprised.
"Can’t believe you showed up today. That’s rare."
"You make it sound like I’m some kind of inmate out for yard time. You’ve been busy lately, looking to change careers to ’try not to laugh challenges’?"
Wang Laoju teased, making Liu Xin’an nervous.
The site wasn’t the small niche community it once was, transformed by capital investments and public attention.
Although Liu Xin’an hadn’t been a creator for long, he had used the site since its inception.
So, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy about the changes.
What Wang Laoju was teasing about was the site’s recent transformations.
When mundane, simple, ordinary life videos took over and creators marketed themselves rather than their content, Liu Xin’an felt unprecedented disappointment.
This is why he felt so uneasy about Old Tomato’s changes.
"No way. That last appearance was an accident."
"Haha, I knew you hadn’t changed."
"How’s the game coming along?"
"Not great. There are too many pitfalls in our first attempt. This industry isn’t as simple as we thought."
"Still impressive. If I were in your shoes, I definitely wouldn’t dare."
Liu Xin’an sighed. He just didn’t have that kind of guts, and partly he didn’t understand it.
He was different from Wang Laoju, who at least came from a proper web engineering background.
He was just a linguistics major...
Investing money blindly would just be a waste.
"When the demo is out, I’ll need your help with a video."
"No problem. Just send it over. I’ll play it and find a hundred bugs for you."
"...Are you trying to kill us?"
Wang Laoju laughed, patted Liu Xin’an on the shoulder, then left.
After confirming no one was around, Liu Xin’an pulled out his phone to update Bae Juhyun on what had just happened.
That was close. He had thought Wang Laoju had figured something out.

Arriving at the venue at 1 PM, the rehearsals wrapped up at 6 PM.
After declining a dinner invitation from Lao E and scattered friends, Liu Xin’an finally breathed a sigh of relief and headed back to the hotel.
He had to do a photoshoot tomorrow. Fortunately, he wasn’t one of the main creators promoted by the site, so he wouldn’t have to follow all the promotional activities.
After the photoshoot and making some videos for the site, he could resume his vacation.
"Knock, knock, knock."
A soft knock on the door, and soon, it opened to reveal Li Chenglu.
"Just you?"
"Of course. Who else would it be?"
Li Chenglu rolled her eyes and stepped aside to let Liu Xin’an in. She and Bae Juhyun had only returned to the hotel a few minutes earlier.
"Alright, I won’t bother you two. Call me if you need anything."
"Huh?" Liu Xin’an hadn’t even seen Bae Juhyun yet but heard Li Chenglu say this as she left, closing the door behind her.
What was going on? Did Li Chenglu have something to do?
As he pondered, the bathroom door opened, and a ponytailed Bae Juhyun walked out. Seeing Liu Xin’an, she froze for a moment before smiling.
"You’re back?"
"Yeah. What’s with Li Chenglu?"
"What do you mean?" Bae Juhyun looked puzzled. She glanced around the room, and not seeing Li Chenglu, looked back at Liu Xin’an, confused.
"She opened the door for me and then left."
"She probably didn’t want to disturb us?" Bae Juhyun thought it was likely. Spending the afternoon with Li Chenglu had erased any awkwardness between them.
She found many similarities with Liu Xin’an’s childhood friend, especially in terms of values.
"Seriously? Are you sure it was Li Chenglu and not some other Chenglu?"
Bae Juhyun spread her hands cutely. "I don’t get what you mean. I think Chenglu was trying to be considerate."
"How did you two get so close while I was gone?"
"You men will never understand us."
Seeing Bae Juhyun with her hands on her hips, looking proud, Liu Xin’an decided to "teach" her a lesson his way.
"Hey!"
With a startled scream, Bae Juhyun nestled obediently into Liu Xin’an’s arms.
After a while, she panted and pushed him away.
"I haven’t even confronted you yet!"
"Confront me?" Liu Xin’an was puzzled. What had he done to upset Bae Juhyun?
Bae Juhyun didn’t say anything. She pulled out her phone and started searching for something.
Soon, a few photos of Liu Xin’an with other girls appeared on her screen.
Liu Xin’an’s eyes widened. These girls were the ones he had just taken photos with from the dance category.
Considering Bae Juhyun didn’t understand Chinese and wouldn’t use this app, plus Li Chenglu’s hasty exit...
"Li Chenglu!"
No need to guess. Li Chenglu must have sent these photos to Bae Juhyun.
Whatever her motives, they couldn’t have been good!
"I asked Chenglu to send them to me. Feels nice taking photos with pretty girls, huh?"
"Not at all." Liu Xin’an broke into a cold sweat. He knew very well how jealous his girlfriend could get. He took his phone and, eager to make amends, suggested, "Come on, let’s take a photo together!"
Bae Juhyun raised an eyebrow and struck the same pose as the girls in the photos.
The familiar pose made Liu Xin’an’s smile freeze. He put down his phone, gave a pleasing smile, and held Bae Juhyun’s hand.
"Okay, I promise not to take random photos anymore."
Bae Juhyun pouted and hugged his arm.
She wasn’t actually angry. As an artist, she took way more photos, and she had no right to stop Liu Xin’an’s basic social interactions.
But...
Maybe she was just being irrational.
The moment she saw those photos, she felt very uncomfortable. That feeling only dissipated when she finally saw Liu Xin’an.
"Going out tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I need to do a photoshoot, VCR, and some promotional videos. I’ll go out in the morning and be back by afternoon. By the time you wake up, I should be home."
Sleeping in wasn’t important. Bae Juhyun’s eyes lit up as she looked up at Liu Xin’an: "A photoshoot?"
"Uh... yeah, why?"
"Will you wear formal attire?"
Liu Xin’an shook his head, not sure yet. It might be formal or something else. It depended on the stylist’s plan.
Seeing Bae Juhyun’s disappointed look, he added, "I’ll wear formal attire for the award ceremony. Do you want to see me in a suit?"
"Of course!"
While Liu Xin’an usually came across as sunny, when he was serious, he could make hearts race.
And with his great physique, adding a suit would be...
Just imagining it made Bae Juhyun blush.
