Catastrophe Card King
Chapter 1887 - 571 Black Death

Chapter 1887: Chapter 571 Black Death

The sky suddenly revealed a bright moon, its silvery light covering the land, giving an impression of tranquility mixed with a dream-like, misty beauty.

The vast Hell’s Gate Canyon, moonlight illuminating the cold turrets, also casts light on faces that appear extremely solemn.

Leonard Churchill, however, was no stranger to the tactics of those Outer Gods, and found it unremarkable. The Holy Item of the Silver Moon Sect, that [Moon], was still in his possession.

But for most of the alliance, it was their first time witnessing such a marvelous sight.

A faint mist pervaded the canyon, the bright moon hanging high; when people looked at it, it mirrored back into their eyes.

However, the alliance had long devised plans to counter the Outer Gods, including various restrictions and arrays to shield against faith contamination, and some artifacts that absorbed divinity.

This moonlight had no effect on the soldiers at the Jilan Defense Line.

Leonard Churchill and Seven Brown quickly arrived at the turret’s observation window.

It didn’t take long before they observed flickering lights on the horizon in the direction of Rig City.

Then, those lights gradually converged into a wave of flames, surging towards the canyon.

Leonard Churchill picked up binoculars for a closer look.

The enemy’s front line consisted of some broken Machinery City constructs and a poorly equipped slave army.

Seven Brown also saw this scene, muttering: "There’s quite a number of them."

She knew this was merely a probing attack, these forces posed no real threat to the Jilan Defense Line, and didn’t pay much attention.

But Leonard Churchill, looking at those forces, furrowed his brow slightly, "It will be a hard battle."

Seven Brown cast a puzzled glance at him, sending an inquisitive look: "Hmm?"

No more words needed, the two understood each other’s meaning.

Leonard Churchill’s gaze was distant and deep, saying outright: "The Orlan Royal Court simply treats these vanguard troops as expendable resources. Their purpose is likely ’sacrifice’. The more who die now, the stronger the divine power of those few Outer Gods behind them becomes."

This is an open strategy; even if realized, there’s no remedy.

The enemy sent a batch of cannon fodder: if not killed, they would disrupt the defense line; if killed, they’d add to the sacrifices as spirit mediums.

No matter the choice, the enemy grows stronger.

Seven Brown furrowed her brow upon hearing this, murmuring: "But, there are at least tens of thousands..."

Though aware that death in war is inevitable, she still couldn’t understand how those in power could so easily sacrifice tens of thousands of lives.

It made her feel that the Orlan Royal Court seemed too indifferent about life; these were nominally Orlan’s subjects.

Leonard Churchill didn’t continue the topic, only saying: "There will be more to come."

In this war, only one side can survive, so every conceivable tactic will surely be employed by the Orlan Royal Court.

Though Orlan has a chance of winning by conventional means to attack the Jilan Defense Line, it might take months or even years.

King Arthur can’t afford to wait.

So from the start, this war was destined to be exceedingly brutal.

Moonlight was like a stimulant, and those Silver Moon believers rushing to die for their God wouldn’t hesitate in the slightest, advancing in waves.

Not to mention the East Wilderness, which had a sufficient population.

Seven Brown listened with a stern expression, her eyes flickering with contemplation.

The two wanted to observe more closely, but suddenly the mist outside thickened.

Light rain began to fall from the sky, whistling cold wind passing through.

Their vision suddenly limited, visibility turned extremely low.

This rain and fog served not only to obscure view but also as a means to perceive.

The ability to alter climate is exceedingly terrifying on the battlefield.

Leonard Churchill saw traces of law flowing in his eyes, murmuring: "’Elemental Sovereign Lagros’ has also taken action..."

In his deduction, the two Seven Catastrophes Monarchs posed a massive uncertainty.

King Arthur, driven completely mad, unconcerned over anything for victory, fully released the two Outer Gods.

If that occurs, even if the alliance wins, it loses.

Seven Brown watched, brow tightly furrowed.

Even with mist shrouding all around, she showed no intent to leave.

Leonard Churchill’s radiance in his eyes slightly diminished, yet he casually suggested, "Let’s go, time for dinner."

The probing has just begun; the war won’t end so quickly. Meals should continue as usual.

....

"Fire!"

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

"..."

The enemy’s vanguard force had already arrived, and the alliance, without hesitation, initiated cannon coverage.

Cannon fire rang dense yet orderly.

Despite visuals obscured by the mist, the alliance had long deployed numerous intelligence personnel and scouting mechanical equipment.

Even without sight, command could accurately pinpoint enemy positions through multifaceted arrangement.

At this distance, cannons served as the best attack method.

The alliance enjoyed support from New World Technology City’s enormous munitions plant, long stocked with ammunition, various shells raining down like raindrops.

On Orlan’s side, occasionally shells hit the rock wall, but beyond dislodging some debris posed no threat.

Most of the Jilan Defense Line lay within the mountain belly, the cafeteria deeper inside. Beyond faint cannon sounds, they were unaffected.

When Leonard Churchill and Seven Brown arrived, the diners weren’t as numerous as during the usual dining hours.

The young soldiers each had tense expressions, while the leaders and High-Order Card Masters appeared quite relaxed.

The meal proceeded, eating and drinking as needed.

Wartime fare was exceptional; both the standard and taste were excellent.

Moreover, to accommodate various regional flavors, hundreds of varieties were served daily.
