Catastrophe Card King -
Chapter 1108 - Chapter 1108 340
Chapter 1108: 340 Chapter 1108: 340 Leonard Churchill infiltrated Starfall City with ease.
While other scouts had to skulk around in hiding, he simply changed his outfit and walked the streets with confidence.
The pollution in the industrial city was very severe, the air filled with the acrid smell of coal smoke.
Like other pedestrians, Leonard wore a gas mask as he walked along the streets.
Even though it was late at night, machinery factories in Starfall City operated in shifts around the clock, and the streets were always filled with off-duty workers loitering about.
Here one could find the Federation’s cheapest mechanical products. Recently, due to the war, the official limits on purchases were lifted, and there were quite a few outsiders in the city looking to buy mechanical equipment.
Both sides of the streets were lined with shops selling various mechanical parts and offering custom modifications; the display windows were filled with all sorts of strange and exotic mechanical equipment.
As Leonard walked and looked around, he was filled with emotion, “Machinery technology really has developed rapidly.”
Volcano 3-Type Magic Energy Cannons, Slayer II Generation Anti-Magic Light Swords, Behemoth Steam Siege Hammers, T-119 Single Soldier Mechanical Exoskeletons…
This military-grade restricted hardware was now readily available on the streets.
Being available also meant that the military’s equipment technology had improved even further.
And there were many things he had never laid eyes on before.
Glancing at the advertisements by the shop doors, among them were high-end mechanical weapons that could threaten Third and Fourth Tier card masters.
Most of these were ancient machinery manufactured from blueprints obtained during the exploration of the Old Continent.
Leonard only took a brief look and moved on.
The flaws in mechanical equipment were still quite apparent.
The firepower was certainly impressive, but they did not solve the problem of the operator’s safety.
Just the kind of mechanical exoskeleton that couldn’t completely encase the body had too many fatal flaws.
If it were heavy mecha, mobility was still a huge problem.
Far from reaching the standard of the Titan Battle Armor that Leonard had seen in the Augustus Imperial Tomb.
…
It would be at most another hour before the main forces of the Ninth Legion arrived, so Leonard needed to quickly find the contact from the Song Family.
However, as he walked, he quickly noticed something amiss.
Now that he could consider himself a professional spy, Leonard easily recognized that there were many “colleagues” on the streets.
These guys looked like workers, hunters, or other such roles, but their gazes intermittently scanned the people on the streets.
Very professional disguises.
“Coming for the Song Family? Or maybe, the factories here are secretly producing Titan Machinery?”
After some thought, Leonard concluded that these professional spies could only be from the Orlan Royal Family.
No matter the situation, such stringent defenses did not bode well for the Song Family.
With this in mind, Leonard, now on a motorcycle, headed to Paulownia Street, a few blocks away, and found a small establishment called “Beetle Workers’ Pub.”
This was where Catherine Carter had told him he could establish contact with Lew Williams at the Safe House.
Upon entering, Leonard already appeared as a worker covered in grease.
His gaze swept over the patrons of the room without paying attention to a certain table in the corner, seamlessly blending in with the workers drinking their alcohol.
Approaching the bar, he pulled out a high stool to sit on, and gestured to the bartender, “A ‘Iron Rain,’ please.”
The bartender didn’t give him much of a look and quickly brought over a dark, strong drink.
Leonard paid with money folded into a triangle and then lit himself a cigarette.
The bartender, noticing his sequence of actions, showed a flicker of recognition and quickly took out a piece of paper from under the bar and handed it to him.
Leonard glanced at it nonchalantly. It was a perfectly normal letter.
But those words, in his eyes, rearranged according to a special pattern revealing an entirely different message, “Brother Leonard, if you’re reading this letter, I might already be in trouble…”
Leonard’s eyebrows twitched slightly as he began the letter.
In almost an instant, he had read the entire letter.
It was left by Lew Williams, explaining that the Song Family had been targeted by the Orlan Royal Family. The letter’s primary purpose was to leave behind certain possessions of the Song Family.
Leonard was not surprised by Lew’s arrangements.
It was clear the man had prepared several escape routes; this was the last one–in case all others failed, it would allow Leonard to obtain the secret trove of the Song Family.
But Leonard saw more than just that, his thoughts swiftly racing ahead.
“Titan Battle Armor parts are secretly being subcontracted for manufacturing in this Starfall City. Seems certain then, that there must be experts from the Orlan Royal Court stationed here…”
“Moreover, the intelligence department in the Southern Continent definitely isn’t foolish. It could well be that they’ve gotten hold of some directive intelligence, which is why they’re striking several military targets including Starfall City…”
“This means, not only is the Ninth Legion prepared, but likely even the top experts of the Southern Continent were ready, waiting for the Titan Machinery to appear, and they will move in to intercept?”
“Tsk tsk, how interesting…”
Leonard quickly deduced several veins of development for the unfolding events.
It seemed like two separate incidents: 1) the Song Family, 2) the Ninth Legion’s assault.
But in reality, due to some secret underground subcontracted factories, the two incidents were coincidentally intertwined.
Leonard even speculated that the military operation targeting several Machinery Cities might not be the ultimate goal.
What the people of the Southern Continent really wanted to handle was the Titan Mechanical Battle Armor.
Previously, the Orlan Royal Court had used the Titan Machinery to execute several “decapitation tactics”, inflicting heavy losses on various Vanguard Teams from the Southern Continent.
But such tactics definitely couldn’t be used indefinitely.
