She wondered if she had said too much.
“How could I…
I never get into fights,” Yan Fei denied without a second thought.
“Regardless, fighting is not good.
I know you’re pretty strong now, able to take down three bad guys, but don’t act like this in school.
You should…”
“Enough about it, let’s eat!” Yan Fei interrupted, tired of the lecture.
“Fine, let’s eat!
Eat until you’re poor, you pig!” Xu Xiaoyan grumbled, clearly frustrated by being cut off.
“As long as there’s food, it’s okay.
Look at how much I can eat now,” Yan Fei began, attempting to make a joke.
But soon his mood darkened.
“Now, with my strength increasing rapidly and my appetite too, I eat more than several other people combined.
Making food has become exhausting!”
“Fool…” Xu Xiaoyan derided him.
“You eat a lot because your body needs the nutrition!
Look how tall you are now!
Of course you can eat a lot!
Eating a lot is due to a lack of nutrition in your meals.
You need to compensate for it with higher quantity.
Haven’t you noticed that people get full with just a bit of meat, and can go a long time without feeling hungry?
With noodles, you have to eat several bowls just to feel full and it isn’t long before you’re hungry again.”
“I…” Yan Fei was suddenly lost for words.
Aren’t dragon meat and dragon eggs nourishing enough?
Back when he first started eating them, he ate to the point of nosebleeds.
It was only after numerous transformations that he could eat them continuously.
Thinking about nourishment reminded Yan Fei of something.
His eyes brightened: “I know!
I’ll go and ask Old Master He tomorrow.
He might have some nutritious recipes.
If I add those to my meat stews and soups, surely it will do me good!”
Xu Xiaoyan rolled her eyes at him: “You think you still need supplementation?
What do you think I eat every day at school?
I feel happy even if I just get to eat meat or an egg once.
You eat them every day, isn’t that enough?”
Yan Fei didn’t bother arguing with her.
Once the girl had eaten her fill and went home, Yan Fei entered the island.
He silently crept to the seaside, where he could occasionally hear the call of the pterosaurs in the cliffs in the distance.
Gathering his focus, Yan Fei began to transform into the Flying Winged Dragon.
The Compsognathus around him had been keeping clear of him since his appearance.
When he transformed into the Flying Winged Dragon, they scattered without a trace.
Yan Fei made no sound, prepared himself, flapped his wings, and rode the sea breeze into the sky.
As soon as he took off, Yan Fei faintly heard the alert calls of the island pterosaurs.
He quickly looked over towards the direction of the cliffs.
Not good!
The island pterosaurs were preparing to take flight.
He flapped his wings hastily to ascend into the sky.
But in the blink of an eye, looking back, he saw tiny dots rapidly enlarging in the sky.
Despite a few more desperate flaps, he finally gave up, knowing his attempt for the night was futile.
Quickly, he paused in mid-air, riding on the wind power, and then dove towards the island.
It was too late; the island pterosaurs had already rushed over.
Yan Fei had previously thought he flew pretty fast.
But compared to these pterosaurs, their flight was in a different league.
He was practically crawling through the sky in comparison.
He could see that escape was impossible, so Yan Fei hurriedly transformed back into a small Compsognathus and teleported back home.
Thud…Squeak squeak…Crash…
After a commotion in the room, a dirt-smeared Compsognathus crawled out from under the bed.
The force from the dive meant that even after transforming into a Compsognathus and teleporting home, Yan Fei was still reeling and disoriented.
He rolled under his bed with a scream.
Damn!
Originally, he was hoping for a stealthy flight to another island after circling around a bit!
Flying above the ocean surface was too dangerous, and he was not brave enough to skim it.
As for the other islands visible from his island, they were all in the direction facing the cliff.
Thus, he had to fly far from his island first and make a large detour to reach the other islands.
As it turned out, he was discovered before he even got off the ground.
The Compsognathus’ body was thankfully resilient enough to withstand the fall.
It was painful, but at least he wasn’t injured.
Once he transformed back into a human, the pain was lesser.
But recalling the dangerous situation, he couldn’t help breaking out in cold sweat.
Seems like it would be some time before he could make another attempt.
Yan Fei entered the island once again, turning into a Flying Winged Dragon amongst the trees and starting his running practice.
The gap in skills was too huge.
He needed to work harder!
After a midnight training session on the island, he waited until everything was quiet outside before he returned to his room.
Reverting back into a Compsognathus, he quietly slipped out to the outskirts of town.
The colder the weather, the less likely he was to encounter people; he was too lazy to transform back into a human.
Once outside the town’s boundary, he picked a spot, took to the skies, and began to circle around above the town.
He took the opportunity to observe the streets below him, always looking for the chance to apprehend another criminal.
Of course, there were none.
Now that he was practicing flight, he could go anywhere.
He flew westwards to take a look.
Past the river and a few miles to the west was a big highway leading to Tanghe County.
If he continued south, he would soon leave the county.
He had never been to the north.
Continuing west past the highway, his maternal grandfather’s house was not far off.
Of course, Yan Fei wasn’t intending to fly to his grandfather’s house.
He was just flying back and forth over the highway, watching the occasional vehicles pass by underneath.
Not long after, he spotted Tanghe County.
It was well into the night and besides the few streets lit up, the rest of the county was pretty dark.
Boring.
He veered off and continued to fly.
The direction he was heading in was towards the city.
Yan Fei knew that he had visited the city when he was a kid, but he couldn’t remember much about it, except for the uncomfortable, long journey.
He flew on and on…
He spotted a large river and a bridge over it.
After crossing the bridge, he’d be in the city.
The city was indeed better, with many more streets brightly lit up compared to the county.
The buildings were taller and more abundant.
There were also trains.
Some were arriving, their horns blaring, some were leaving.
From high above, they looked like wiggling earthworms.
After a while, he grew hungry.
Time to go back.
That night, Yan Fei had another dream.
It was pitch black in the dead of night.
Yan Fei had caught a small thief and was beating him up happily when a police officer appeared.
The officer held up a certificate and told him, “Don’t hit people, I’m a police officer.”
Yan Fei broke into a hearty laugh and pulled out his own certificate, “I can legally hit people, I’m an idiot!”
But no matter how he looked at it, he couldn’t make out what was on the certificate!
It was not until dawn that he remembered; this scene was from a TV show he had watched in a small restaurant across from his place.
It was a popular cop show set in Hong Kong where the cops, with their badge out, would dramatically announce, “I am a member of the Hong Kong Royal Police Force.
You’re under arrest.
Everything you say will be used as evidence in court!”
