Carrying a Jurassic on me
Chapter 29 - 29 29 Archaeologist Raising Dinosaurs_1

29: Chapter 29: Archaeologist Raising Dinosaurs_1 29: Chapter 29: Archaeologist Raising Dinosaurs_1 How can I ensure that I always have “freedom”?

This is a question that Yan Fei has always cared about.

So after getting up and eating breakfast in the morning, Yan Fei took his newly-bought copy of “Ancient Bones” and purchased some ox tongue pastries as well, rolling off to the county town home.

On Sunday, Yanfei’s father and mother didn’t get up too early.

When Yan Fei entered, his mother had just started cleaning up the dishes.

Upon seeing Yan Fei entering, the three of them were delighted.

Yan Chao instantly spotted the pastries in Yan Fei’s hand and started calling for his brother.

Yan Fei hastily handed him a cake.

Despite just having eaten, the little fellow still managed to get his entire face covered in crumbs.

Yanfei’s father, however, was focused on the book under Yan Fei’s arm.

He seemed surprised that Yan Fei had brought a book back home and after a moment of surprise, he said: ” Xiao Fei brought a book, what book is it?”

Yan Fei passed the book over, “Bought it on the road, it’s about dinosaur fossils, I read it in my spare time!”

Yanfei’s father was surprised, he took the book and flipped through it, full of disbelief, “You actually like reading this?”

Yan Fei quickly seized the opportunity to prove himself diligent: “Yeah, it’s fascinating!

I had no idea that such enormous creatures used to roam the Earth.

Look at the largest ones named Seismosaurus, killing one of them would probably be enough to feed the entire county!”

Yanfei’s father chuckled, “Hehe, that’s true.

But this book seems a bit tedious, can you really get into it?”

Yan Fei made a bashful expression, “There are some words I still can’t recognize!

But from the bit I did read, I found many inaccuracies!”

Yanfei’s father was perplexed, “What inaccuracies?”

Yan Fei took the book back, flipped over a few pages and showed him, “Look, it says here that the largest Pterosaur could only hunt on the ground.

I don’t think that’s right.

Their wings are so large and they wouldn’t be able to fly in the sky with just a tiny bit of strength.

Moreover, if they were only hunting on the ground, why would they need wings?

They must’ve been formidable in the sky!

Look at this part of the book too, it talks about the discovery of the world’s largest flying creature, saying that the fossils of these Pterosaurs are the largest.

How many fossils have they discovered so far?

And they dare to claim that these are the biggest Pterosaurs?

When they discover a bigger one next time, they’re sure to say that this one is the largest!”

That’s right, I’ve seen Pterosaurs larger than the ones mentioned in the book with my own eyes, and I can even transform!

But I can’t tell you that.

Yanfei’s father didn’t seem to mind the matters Yan Fei pointed out, he was more focused on the fact that his child is reading and learning to think, “Very good, finding inaccuracies means you truly understand it.

For words you can’t recognize now, look them up in a dictionary when you’re in school, eventually you will recognize them.”

Yanfei’s Mom who just emerged from the kitchen exaggerated it even more, “Our family is definitely going to have an archaeologist in the future, specializing in studying these dinosaurs.

Once they’re grown, there will be no shortage of meat in the whole country…”

Yan Fei was puzzled: If he didn’t have an island, could the dinosaurs that had been extinct for tens of millions of years be actually bred?

Yanfei’s father was also stunned: Should a dinosaur researcher be considered a biologist or an archaeologist?

And bred as well?

If archaeologists start breeding dinosaurs, wouldn’t that be considered a cross-discipline?

However, both of them wisely didn’t say anything.

Yan Chao, however, shouted loudly, “Mom, Mom, I want to eat dinosaur meat…”

Unfortunately, this was a request that Yanfei’s parents could not currently fulfill.

It would have to wait until Yan Fei could secretly gratify it in the future.

Yanfei’s father was very satisfied with Yan Fei.

Even though he felt that he shouldn’t put high hopes on his elder son’s studies, subconsciously he still wanted his child to read more books, at the very least he shouldn’t be illiterate.

After eating, the whole family went out to play.

They ate lunch outside and Yan Fei prepared to take a bus home to school in the afternoon.

When he got on the bus, in addition to the money his mother gave him for living expenses, Yanfei’s father also secretly stuck twenty Yuan in his pocket, whispering that he could buy more books to read, or buy more meat to eat – Yan Fei’s performance was quite good this time.

As a father, he wasn’t very adept at expressing himself in words, so he expressed it through actions.

Sitting on the bus, Yan Fei felt like everything was going perfectly.

As soon as classes were over that evening, Yan Fei, instead of going home, headed straight for the outskirts of town.

He ran all the way to the river, heading for the widest part of the river beach, preparing to practice flying there.

Only, the place that always seemed so vast to him before, seemed a little bit small after transforming.

As a Transforming Winged Dragon, after moving around on the ground for a while, he felt like he had stretched his body out enough.

Yan Fei tried again to fly.

His wings moved, lifting his body into the air.

He tried to move his wings again, but it was too fast, so he slowed down…

He then exerted himself to pull his big mouth free from the soil and continued to try once more…

With each take-off, he fell and tumbled back to the ground.

Even though he was thick-skinned and sturdy, he could not endure such torment.

Most importantly, in a moment of carelessness, he had fallen quite a distance and knocked over a large area of someone’s cornfield.

When the sky was just about to get light, Yan Fei quietly went back home, feeling exhausted and weak the entire day…

The second day… the third day…

This evening, after classes, Yan Fei unusually turned on the television.

After adjusting it for a long time, he finally got it right.

He remembered that one channel showed “Animal World”, so he decided to watch and learn more about flying.

Unfortunately, the TV show wasn’t available whenever he wanted to watch it.

There were programs on after night study, but none of them related to Animal World.

Exasperated, Yan Fei snapped the TV off.

He pressed the button so forcefully that it popped off.

In reality, this little fourteen-inch black-and-white TV should have been retired long ago.

Too lazy to find a replacement, Yan Fei buried his head in his arms and went to sleep.

He had no choice but to sleep!

The group of Pterosaurs on the island had a deep grudge against him, relentlessly harassing him, even when he was practicing walking in the woods, he had to endure the group of Pterosaurs squawking overhead.

Go ahead and squawk!

And they constantly shat everywhere too!

He had to accept numerous such “gifts”!

It was utterly intolerable!

Outraged, Yan Fei nearly wiped out their nest of dinosaur eggs.

Had it not been for the heavy casualties among the Pterosaurs – and considering future implications – he would have gladly seen this group of Pterosaurs completely obliterated.

He had been to the riverbank several times, and he was gradually able to hover in the air for a few seconds.

Unfortunately, he damaged quite a bit of the surrounding cornfield in the process.

The townsfolk began to spread tales of a monster by the river at night – Yan Fei had been careful, but the marks he left behind were unavoidable.

The footprints were the most obvious give-away.

Luckily, the town was like this; rumors of someone seeing a ghost or a monster would spread like wildfire.

So many spread around that everyone became skeptical, spreading tales on one side while not believing any of them on the other.

Yan Fei decided to take a break and heal, resuming his practice once the crops in the field had been harvested.

After all, there weren’t many days left.

The days he decided to rest became particularly comfortable.

Eating dinosaur meat, dinosaur eggs every day, sneaking out at night to catch a rabbit – daytime classes didn’t feel so exhausting.

The crops he had planted on the island were growing at a rapid pace.

The farmland Yan Fei had cleared was now a lush green.

Even the stolen bamboos were growing well, proving the island’s climate was suitable for starting a farm.

Whenever Yan Fei was free, he’d scatter some more seeds in the woods.

There weren’t many sunlit spots, so he didn’t expect much growth, but never mind it.

Unfortunately, after a few pleasurable days, an examination came up.

As the monthly examination for the town’s junior high school was approaching, the tense atmosphere made Yan Fei involuntarily start studying seriously, clutching his textbook whenever transpired to be awake.

Reading his English textbook early in the morning, he complained to himself: I can even speak “dinosaur language”, but now I have to learn “eagle language”?

While he had stopped practicing flying, studying walking in the woods was still an option, so the island’s Pterosaurs came to “chat” punctually every day.

Given enough time, he was starting to understand their calls, based on the sounds made by his transformed Winged Dragon.

Unfortunately, even if he mastered dinosaur language, it would still be no help for the looming examination!

“Hey…

Yan Fei, Yan Fei…” engrossed in his book, a nudge from his desk mate, Xie Dang’en, snapped him out of it.

Yan Fei asked, “What is it?”

“Aren’t you making cheat sheets?

If you don’t do it now, it’ll be too late when the exam comes!” Xie Dang’en said in a conspiratorial tone to him.

Wasn’t that right?

A lot of people in the classroom were busy writing on small slips of paper!

Especially the students from the last two rows, they were truly doing everything they could – the cheat sheets were smaller than their hands, the characters written were tinier than ants.

They had written on both sides of a paper, utilizing all the available space.

Yan Fei was well aware of what everyone was up to!

But he had his plans and had no intention of sharing them with his newly acquainted desk mates.

“Forget it, I wouldn’t even know what to write if I wanted to cheat.

Even if I had the textbook during the exam, I probably wouldn’t find what I’m looking for!”

“You should still prepare something at least.

You might stumble upon it!” Xie Dang’en chuckled upon hearing his words and continued to persuade him.

After thinking for a while, Yan Fei said, “You give me your textbook first.

Show me those highlighted parts, and I will mark it in my textbook before copying it at home.”

Xie Dang’en was eager to help, “Which subject do you want to see?

I’ve annotated all the key points in my textbooks.

Some points I highlighted as ‘key points within key points’, so I can assure you it’s more concise than those good students…”

Yan Fei randomly opened a history textbook and sure enough, this desk mate of his had stealthily annotated all key points crystal clear, using different colored pens, and all kinds of symbols.

The book clearly distinguished between examination points, key points.

Yan Fei was left dumbfounded.

Seeing Yan Fei flabbergasted, Xie Dang’en gave a smug grin, “I don’t usually lend out this textbook.

If not for the fact that we are desk mates you wouldn’t even get to see it.

My dad says, as a student, it’s forgivable if you aren’t good at studying, but if you can’t even find a place to cheat from, you deserve to be beaten!”

It took Yan Fei a while to murmur, “Your dad…he’s really…enlightened…”
