Chapter 244: Big Loss

Caroline smiles with relief, knowing that there is still no proof of her infidelity.

She shouldn’t have been so worried and should have trusted Amon when he told her to continue with the denial.

Before Amon left, he did tell her that her husband must be on his way, which surprised her. When she asked about it, she learned from Amon that her husband has hired a Private detective to investigate their affair, which worried her.

Amon reassured her and told her not to worry about it, and he had everything handled. She believed him at the moment and continued to do as she was told.

But when Kent brought her here to look at the CCTV footage, she became worried, thinking that Amon might not have had enough time to take care of the stored footage, but she was wrong.

Amon must have already known that her building’s CCTV system was down and that is why he came over to fuck her.

"Get out of the way!" Kent shouts at the security guard and rushes in to check it for himself. He is not going to believe it unless he sees it with his own eyes.

Kent arrives in front of multiple screens and sees that each and every one of them is black. He tries to turn the entire system on, but he has no luck. The guard didn’t lie to him. The systems really aren’t working.

"Is this what you wanted to show me? Is this your proof?" Caroline asks, grabbing Kent’s attention.

He turns around to look at her and sees an annoyed look on her face. He seethes with anger as he sees her continuing to play innocent here.

He is one hundred percent sure that Caroline is cheating on him, but the sheer audacity she has to lie to his face is fucking with his head.

"You can’t keep lying to me, Caroline. The truth will be out soon, and I will make you pay," Kent says, gritting his teeth with anger.

"And I still don’t know where you are getting this from. For the hundredth time, I am not cheating on you, Kent. How dare you question my integrity?" Caroline, too, raises her voice, and she is having a lot of fun doing it.

She didn’t expect herself to enjoy playing with the feelings of the man she is married to. But as she gives it some thoughts, she realizes that she didn’t give a single flying fuck about Kent. Ever since she met Amon, no man interested her, not even her own husband. And that is why she finds it so easy to mess with a man with whom she spent a lot of time together.

Kent’s eyes turn red as the blood vessels in them expand because of his rising blood pressure from the anger he is experiencing, but he is not going to lose it and risk everything.

Instead, he directs his anger towards the guard who has been watching the drama between Kent and Caroline unfold before his very eyes.

He never expected to come across just a juicy piece of a story. As a security guard, his job his very boring, so this extreme outburst between Kent and Caroline is very entertaining to him.

He also can’t believe that Caroline is cheating on Kent. He didn’t understand how a woman could cheat on a man who has almost everything: looks, money, and status.

’I don’t understand women,’ the guard thinks as he looks at Caroline. But his thought process is suddenly interrupted as Kent suddenly grabs him by his collar and yanks him closer.

"You! You must have seen a man walk out of here. Tell me you saw him!" Kent shouts in the guard’s face, sending specks of saliva flying onto the guard’s face.

The guard is surprised and bewildered by Kent suddenly targeting him.

"I am sorry, Sir, but I don’t know what you are talking about. I didn’t see any man going out of the building," the guard says.

"Bullshit. How could you not see him? He was big, tall, and handsome. How can you, as a guard, not see him? He literally talked to him right in front of the entrance. You must have seen him!" Kent shouts at the guard’s face.

"I am sorry, sir, but I am telling the truth. I didn’t see any man walk out of the building. I only saw you entering the building in a hurry," the guard says.

"Lying! You are fucking lying! How fucking dare you!" Kent shouts and balls his hand to punch the guard, but stops himself again. He can’t assault the guard as he will get in more trouble.

Caroline, too, was surprised hearing the guard deny seeing Amon walk out because that’s impossible. She believes Amon must have bribed the guard to keep his mouth shut. With the amount of money Amon has, how can a poor guard deny his request?

She smirks, seeing Kent losing himself.

She also didn’t expect Amon to actually talk to Kent directly. This just made Caroline shiver with excitement, learning about Amon’s boldness.

No man would ever go out of their way to confront the husband of their lover right to their face, but Amon did. This just shows the amount of power, influence, and confidence Amon has.

"I am done here. You still haven’t shown me this supposed proof. Don’t show your face until you have it," Caroline says, turns away, and leaves.

Kent almost bursts a vein in his head seeing Caroline dismiss him and walk away, but he can’t do anything about it. He doesn’t have anything incriminating to prove his point.

’I will have to do it myself,’ Kent realizes that relying on others is useless. If he wants the proof, he is going to have to get it himself.

Kent lets go of the guard’s collar and leaves as well, leaving the guard still bewildered.

"Fucking asshole, no wonder Miss Caroline is cheating on him. She deserves better..." the guard says and goes back to being the guard, wasting his time guarding nothing but air.

This locality rarely sees any crime, so his job is completely useless. He is just there to show the residents that they are being taken care of.

Kent doesn’t go back to his apartment. He cannot go there. How can he show his face to Caroline when he got utterly humiliated by her?

He looks at his watch to see the time. "Shit! I need to get back," he murmurs and heads to the parking area and drives back to his office.

Half an hour later, Kent arrives back at his office.

"Welcome back, Mr. Smith-" the beautiful receptionist at the front desk greets him, but he completely ignores her and rushes towards the elevator.

He would usually take some time to chat and even flirt with her a little, but right now, he doesn’t have the luxury to do so.

He needs to reschedule his meeting with Mr. Moore before he loses this client. Mr. Moore is a big shot in this city, and being his legal counsel, pays millions; Kent can’t lose him.

As the elevator reaches his designated floor, he rushes towards his office, but as he is making his way towards his office. He stops.

He sees three people inside the general meeting room, talking and laughing.

Kent recognizes the three faces inside the meeting room, and his heart becomes heavy.

The first person is Richard Brooke, the CEO of the firm he works for, and also his boss. Richard Brooke was a big shot lawyer who used to practice law in the past, but not anymore. He now runs the law business.

The second person in the room is a beautiful woman with light brown hair, wearing a modified suit that sits perfectly on her figure, showing off her professional sexiness. This woman is the daughter of Richard Brooke. Angelica Brooke. Also, his biggest rival is in this firm.

If there is any lawyer that can match him in every aspect, it’s Angelica, and she is a spoiled bitch who looks down on everyone, especially him, because he doesn’t come from money like her. An entitled bitch who looks down on people who are not of similar status to her.

And the third person inside the room is Mr. Moore himself. The man has his claw in every industry and is on the top twenty billionaires list.

Seeing the three talk and smile friendly turns Kent’s whole world upside down. How could he not understand what’s going on inside?

Richard is clearly trying to boost his own daughter’s career and make her his potential successor. Richard is still just a CEO. He is not the owner, so if he wants to continue his reign and then pass it on to his daughter, he needs her to be Mr. Moore’s primary legal counsel.

With Mr. Moore’s support, his daughter will rise to heights even higher than his.

Kent can’t do anything but watch as the rug is pulled from beneath his feet as he sees Angelica and Mr. Moore shake hands.

After a few minutes, the three walk out of the meeting room and see Kent standing in front of them.

As Kent and Angelica’s eyes meet, she coldly smirks at him. She always found Kent repulsive, as how could a commoner like him be compared to her, so she always wanted to do better than him, so what’s better than stealing Mr. Moore as a client from him?

"Ah, Kent, you are here. How is that murder case you are handling going?" Richard asks as if he didn’t just help his daughter snatch the biggest client possible from Kent’s hands.

"It’s going good," Kent says, hiding his anger.

As for Mr. Moore, he didn’t care. Why should he? He is a cold-hearted, successful businessman, and his time is more important than even someone else’s life. Even if your mother dies, you better prioritize him over her.
