Jael immediately whipped his phone, taking the book with him as he deserted the room he had broken into.

He harmlessly closed the ruined door as he gave orders to the men, striding down the hallway.

There was no time to go back to the auto repair shop so he would have his men bring Drew down to the Pack house.

The men moved quickly, and in no time he was getting a call.

"... Let go... fuck! Don’t fucking touch me..."

He could hear Drew freaking out the moment the call connected.

"Calm down, it’s just going to be a short drive." He spoke calmly.

That silenced the mechanic, and Jael could picture his eyes widening in realization.

"You." The accusation was spoken with a finality. "What the fuck do you want?"

"Answers. I said this before," Jael went on, completely unflappable.

There was still a possibility that he had grabbed the wrong person and Drew had nothing to do with the accident.

The call grew silent for a few beats, "And I already told you all that I know."

"I’m not sure about that. You didn’t tell me about the arrangement you had with Luna Tammy."

The silence stretched out even longer now, the men in the car not saying a single word.

Jael would prefer to have this conversation in person but he would hate to bring Drew without confirming his role in the accident.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about," Drew said quietly.

The mechanic was a terrible liar but Jael needed to give him an incentive to spill the truth.

"I’m confident you’ll reconsider when Luna Tammy throws you under the bus-"

"What did she tell you? What do you know about-" Drew exploded, almost revealing the truth.

"I know that Luna Tammy had you tamper with Victor’s car." Jael went on, completely calm although Drew sounded like he was about to break down.

"I know that you were the one to tamper with the breaks, and there’s physical proof-"

"I-I didn’t-" Drew choked out, "I didn’t..."

Jael’s eyes went wide as he listened to the other Beta’s words, getting up from the couch to head to the parking lot of the Pack house.

It wasn’t exactly what he expected to hear, but the men would be at the Pack house soon, with Drew in tow.

The one person who needed to hear the Beta’s words was Caspian.

"Caspian," Warren scolded sharply, "There’s no reason to be so hostile." He said through gritted teeth.

Caspian quieted down, because if he hadn’t, he would have blurted out something he would probably regret.

He would rather be forced to stay in the Pack than destroy the chances of uncovering the circumstances around his parents’ accident.

He had wanted to demand that the Alpha tell him just why his mom’s pictures were on his private computer.

"What would Paris think if she heard you ran away to be with a..." Warren trailed off like he was looking for a less disrespectful way to address Asher.

"...a Mafia King."

"Leave Asher out of this," Caspian defended. "He has nothing to do with this."

Warren didn’t look convinced, "That’s it. I’m contacting the High Council." He straightened his shoulders.

"What?"

"What?"

Caspian and Tammy exclaimed at the same time, varying degrees of disbelief on their faces.

Tammy couldn’t believe that her husband would deliberately put their family in danger.

What would they tell the High Council if Caspian revealed that they contrived to keep him from his position?

Caspian just shot worried eyes in Asher’s direction, worried that it would put him in trouble with the High Council.

"If you don’t want me doing that, you’ll return to Moonstone Pack to your mate where you belong."

Asher’s phone went off at that point, putting the spotlight on him for the first time.

He kept a poker face as he lifted his phone, "Don’t stop on my account. I just have to take this."

Warren and Tammy didn’t take his words well but Asher couldn’t care less, picking up Jael’s call.

"Good news?" He spoke quietly into the phone, turning away to properly muffle his voice.

"More or less. We’re on our way."

Asher looked down at his phone when Jael hung up. ’We’? Who else was coming with him?

Warren waited till he got off the phone before he spoke, "I recommend you begin your journey back to Haines, Mr. Knight. I reckon you wouldn’t want another run-in with the High Council..."

Caspian couldn’t say anything, this was what they had been trying to avoid by having him hide his identity.

Asher however remained stoic, it was hard to tell if the Mafia King was ruffled by Warren’s words.

"That’s unfortunate," Asher sighed tragically, "I didn’t even get to attend the opening dinner."

"It’ll go on without you," Warren said tightly.

"It’d be better even," Tammy snidely muttered.

Caspian was too shaken by this very real threat to counter her words, thinking hard of a way to avoid being separated from Asher.

"Pity." Asher tutted, "I was looking forward to it."

He still didn’t make a move to start for the door or refute Warren’s words, a polite knock rapping on the door.

Before anyone could shake out of it to respond, it swung open, Jael striding in with a strange man beside him.

Jael was quick to close the door behind the man who looked wretched.

He was dressed in work overalls, the top half of the blue outfit tied around his waist, revealing the shirt he wore underneath.

"Drew?" Tammy blurted out despite herself, a hand up to her chest, her wedding ring snugly on her slender finger.

Drew just glared at her, Jael taking the lead.

"Andrew here has something important to say," He announced to the room.

"No, he doesn’t!" Tammy cut in, "What are you doing here? Is this some kind of joke?"

Drew’s anger-filled glare didn’t ease up. "Three days before the accident that claimed the life of Alpha Victor and Luna Paris..." He started to recite in a monotone, sounding like a recorder.
