Chapter 402: +Chapter 402+

Angelo slipped out of the motel just as effortlessly as he got in, walking through the dark parking lot with his hands in the pockets of his hoodie.

Unlike the six men that he had to chase around Haines and sometimes even had to go as far as a town or city outside of Haines, the final job was always right under his nose.

After walking a sufficient distance from the motel, Angelo stopped a cab and got in, his destination was Mafia King Nikolai’s casino.

The smell of blood clung to Angelo’s skin as he sat at the back of the cab. This would be his final job.

After he found Mason Peck, he had immediately sent his resignation letter to the boss. Even as an assassin, he still had to follow protocol.

The cab stopped in front of the brightly lit casino that was still alive despite how late it was. If anything, it bustled more than it did in the daytime.

Angelo had been here enough times, all because of various jobs he had been on. This was the first time he would be going to the casino for personal reasons.

His true target was Ivan Lauder but the previous Mafia King had been dead for years now, someone had to pay in blood.

Despite his sketchy appearance, the bouncers at the doors barely gave him a passing glance, letting him in.

Angelo didn’t have a reason for coming here tonight, he had moved on autopilot. He went to the rows of slot machines, choosing an almost empty row in the back to sit at.

He didn’t have any interest in gambling, neither did he care for the strippers or booze. He had even less care for the drugs peddled on the second floor. He knew a lot of hitmen who frequented the second floor of the casino, Angelo didn’t need drugs, he had enough hatred fueling him.

He knew that Mafia King Nikolai was often on the third floor but he had no plans to make any more moves tonight. And even if he did, the casino was possibly the worst place to try to get his revenge.

The entire third floor was filled with Nikolai’s men who were armed to the teeth, even a bug couldn’t get in. The only place he stood a chance was Nikolai’s penthouse apartment.

But even the apartment complex was crawling with security, getting close enough to the Mafia King felt like an uphill climb. But Angelo had gone against all odds his entire life, this wasn’t a new experience.

He was mentally prepared for the danger, as long as he got his revenge, he didn’t mind dying for his cause.

Angelo sat at the silent slot machine for an hour, no one approached him despite his odd behavior. He wasn’t sure what he wasn’t waiting for...

Angelo slowly turned from when he was hunched over, his eyes going over to the stairs with fixed precision, a few short seconds later, the familiar figure of Mafia King Nikolai stepped onto the ground floor of the casino.

Although there had been no announcement to herald the Mafia King’s presence, well over half of the people in the casino turned to look, his very presence commanding attention.

Angelo’s expression remained unchanged as he watched the Mafia King walk across the casino to the exit, a handful of men on all sides of him.

He didn’t care that Mafia King Nikolai wouldn’t know who he was when they eventually met. He wasn’t looking for closure, he wanted the blood of his mom’s killers.

When he first started out hunting them, he had tried to get them to remember who he was. But monsters never made mistakes, the case of his mom wasn’t an outlier, they had all killed so many helpless innocent people that he couldn’t jog their memories.

One... two... three...

Angelo had stopped asking at that point, their lies to pretend to know who he was so he would have empathy made anger bubble up like bile. So now, he just let them come to their own conclusions about why they were being killed.

When he was sure that the Mafia King had left the parking lot, Angelo rose to his feet. He needed to start the preparations for his biggest and last job...

Assassinating a Mafia King...

Angelo flinched imperceptibly when he stepped out of the doors of the casino and walked right into Mafia King Nikolai.

The Mafia King towered over him, dark blue eyes cutting into him. Angelo kept his composure despite this, ducking his head and slipping past the Mafia King.

If he had bothered to look behind then, he would have seen Nikolai pausing to look over his shoulders, at the black-shrouded figure who had glared at him with such venom.

It was the early hours of the morning now but Angelo still found a cab with ease. He didn’t return to the hotel that was temporarily his home but instead went to his company.

Angelo didn’t want to be alone right then, plus his boss was the only reason he had gotten this far, he owed her a personal report.

Frequency had a front as an intelligence company but the main service provided was assassinations.

Angelo went through an authorized personnel only door, he had his own key to the heavy metal door like everyone else allowed through it. This meant that there was so need for active security, the high-res cameras above the door tracking his every movement.

He went right to the boss’ office, the masked men in front staring right through him without acknowledging him. Angelo did the same, the bodyguards never spoke, they only did their jobs, which was to gun down any unauthorized person.

He knocked lightly and then opened the door without waiting for a response. It was sometime past 4 AM but his boss was still seated behind her desk.

Familiar black eyes looked up at him with amusement, "I thought you resigned?" Silvia reminded him, leaning back in her seat.

Angelo went right to his favorite spot, a rounded cozy chair in a dark corner, curling his long limbs on it.

He let the hood of his hoodie drop down, his black hair pooling around his shoulders. "I did." He admitted, "But I didn’t have anywhere else to go."
