Chapter 397: -Chapter 397-
The Omega was in a pristine white bathrobe, a healthy glow to his face.
"Jael, Asher told me you’d come by." Caspian said with a harmless smile.
Jael was dumbfounded, Asher hadn’t been mouthy when he said Caspian was doing a lot better than he was, it was like the Omega had sucked him of his vitality.
"Yeah, I brought your dinner." He cleared his throat.
Caspian stepped back so that he could push it in, as soon as it was past the door, Jael took a hasty step back. He didn’t want to be in the middle of their private time, and he didn’t want to see Caspian’s face fall when the Omega asked him about Lake.
So he hauled ass out the door and hurried down the hallway without saying any more.
Doctor Perez had been saying the truth, Caspian was already fully recovered. The heavy, cloying sweet scent that accompanied his heat had thinned out as well.
He was relieved, things could have gone worse than they did. With the reassurance that everything wouldn’t fall apart when he looked away, Jael sat alone at the dinner table and ate his meal.

Davian wanted to take Lake to his bedroom as soon as they got back home but he choose instead to go to the kitchen.
Lake had been nauseous for hours, he still hadn’t gotten the full details of what had happened but he doubted that the Omega had anything left in him.
He carefully placed Lake to sit on his favorite counter spot and went right over to the sink to wash his hands before he got started.
He barely rinsed the suds off his hands before Lake was latching onto his back like a piece of magnet to an iron bar.
Davian didn’t mind this but he was worried about Lake being on his feet when he looked so weak and drained.
"Don’t you want to sit and watch me?" He offered.
Lake shook his head - he could feel the little motions against his back. "I’d rather hold you."
Davian didn’t try to persuade him again. He cooked slowly, not wanting to move too fast for Lake to keep up, but the Omega seemed content to cling to him, his scent mellow.
After he was done cooking, he piled the food on a tray and led the way to a nearby living room.
"Where are we going?" Lake asked when they went out the door, his voice muffled.
"Somewhere comfortable." He explained shortly, waddling slowly.
This might seem a little ridiculous and maybe even annoying to anyone else but Davian needed the constant contact as much as Lake did. If anything, he had been trying his hardest to hold back so he was having the best time with Lake’s newfound clingyness.
In the living room, it was easier to have Lake sit in between his legs, the television on in the background for ambiance.
Davian had made a very simple meal because he was in a rush and was limited, he had also made sure to order dessert while they were in the car, and that was brought up by one of the men.
Color gradually came back into Lake’s cheeks as he ate, scarfing down the food like it was from a three-star restaurant.
Now Davian was the one with little appetite, there was something about Lake enthusiastically putting away whatever he cooked that filled him to the brim.
Halfway through the meal, Lake’s bright expression dimmed. "What’s going to happen to the rest of the conference?"
Davian wiped whipped cream from Lake’s lips and licked it off his thumb, "Let’s talk about that tomorrow."
Lake deflated, leaning all his weight against Davian, he felt so content right then, like he had gotten everything he ever wanted. He wanted to feel this way for the rest of his life.
He looked up at Davian with a slice of chocolate pie in his mouth. "Do you want my mating mark?"
Davian was really glad he had only been picking at the food, because he would have choked on whatever had been in his mouth. Even then, it was plainly a miracle he hadn’t choked on thin air.
Lake’s face at that moment would forever be branded in his head. The Omega’s messy hands covered in chocolate, a sparkle in those honey eyes as he looked up at him.
"What?" Davian wheezed.
Lake smiled around his dessert. This was right.
Davian hadn’t tried to hide his true feelings, and if Lake was being honest, he had been pretty bad at doing that too. But unlike him, Davian would be pretty content to leave things as they were, Lake had also done that.
That was when he was still in denial about how he truly felt but at this point, it was silly to keep carrying on like that.
They had a better relationship than most mated couples, everyone referred to them as mates, and even between themselves, they made that slip pretty often.
They had gotten entangled completely and it was more than physical. Davian had already given him everything he owned the moment he found his way to him.
Besides as proper mates, Lake wouldn’t feel bad for being demanding...
"I’m pretty demanding so you’re free to say n-" no...
A kiss cut off the rest of his words, it was upside down and messy, and it tasted like a variety of chocolate.
He immediately forgot about the rest of the pie in his hand, twisting around to better be kissed, uncaring that he smeared melted chocolate all over Davian’s turtleneck.
Lake broke away first to get some air in his lungs, losing his ability to do so at the look in Davian’s eyes.
How did he think that Davian’s eyes were grayscale?
There were so many textures and hues, soft like the moon and bright like silver. It pulled what little oxygen was left out of his lungs.
Davian swallowed with trepidation, this moment didn’t feel real. Everything he ever wanted, offered on a honey platter.
"Yes." Yes! Yes! Yes!
Despite the chaos in his head, Davian’s voice was calm. Lake had now fully rotated towards him, the Omega’s legs thrown over his.
Davian only hesitated for a slight moment before ducking his head to lick the chocolate off Lake’s lips, his heart racing when he felt Lake smile.
"How about a ring?" Lake added to the offer, completely giddy.
"I want everything you give me," Davian said seriously.
Lake’s smile hurt but he couldn’t help it. "I’ll give you whatever you want." He agreed generously, sneaking a bite of his forgotten slice of pie.
This was a serious conversation but the baby was demanding for food and he had to listen.
Davian was greedy, he was just really good at hiding it. "Anything?" He prompted, his eyes dipping to Lake’s tummy.
Lake was curious now, "Anything," He nodded.
"Can I touch?" He dropped his voice to ask, his hand hovering over Lake’s tummy.
Lake reached down a hand to lift up his shirt, "Don’t tickle, I’ll kick," He threatened, his voice endearing despite his words.
Davian hadn’t been planning to, especially not while Lake was eating. He placed his hand carefully, he had wanted to do this ever since he learned that Lake was pregnant. Now he had a soft curve, one that wasn’t visible through his clothes.
It wasn’t comfortable to have a hand on his stomach while he ate but Lake didn’t pull away, Davian’s proud expression flooring him.
Lake had never really gotten the time to think about whether or not he wanted a child, he knew deep down though that he didn’t. He would rather not put his child through all that he had gone through
He wasn’t given a choice though, and maybe it was fated because Davian turned out to be what Lake needed.
Davian soon took his hand away and they refocused on dinner before it cooled.
Lake was a little lost in thought, thinking about what ring to get for Davian, taking his proposal seriously. Neither he nor Davian liked flashy things so there was no need for a big party but he wanted the moment to be important.
Behind him, Davian wrapped his hands loosely around his waist, his face tucked in the crook of Lake’s shoulders.
Lake liked the warm weight, digging into the food, unaware that Davian had dozed off behind him, the Alpha exhausted from his stressful flight.
When he was done eating, he carefully pushed Davian to lean back against the couch so he could slip out of his hands. He left after sleeping while he cleared out the dishes, tossing them in the dishwasher before returning to the living room.
Davian’s eyes were closed, his head tilted backward. Lake’s eyes zeroed in on where he planned to put his mating mark, gently nudging Davian’s awake
He wasn’t sure he had the strength to support Davian all the way to bed, so he didn’t bother to try. Davian woke up easily too, The Alpha picking him up and heading out the door.
