Chapter 382: -Chapter 382-
By the morning Davian was supposed to leave, Lake had given up on pestering the Alpha. Packing up bags to spend the rest of the week with Caspian helped with that.
It had been almost two months since Davian asked him to live in the mansion, and since then, he hadn’t gone a day without seeing the Alpha. Lake didn’t realize how dependent he had become until Davian was driving him over to Caspian’s home.
It was laughable because at first, Davian was doing all the clinging, now he was the one having a difficult timewhen Davian had to leave for just a few days.
Lake just packed an overnight bag, because he knew that with Caspian, they would definitely be going shopping, he might as well prepare himself for the inevitable.
He turned to Davian when the car came to a stop in front of Asher’s mansion, and if his eyes weren’t filling up with unexpected tears, he might have noticed that Caspian wasn’t at the door to receive him.
"Call me when you get to the airport," He started to list off, "And when you get to Madden, and when you get to your hotel room..."
Davian cut him off with a kiss, "I get it. I’ll call you."
Lake hurried out of the car without waiting for Davian to open the door for him, he didn’t know if it was the pregnancy hormones, because he had been about to throw a crying fit.
He should be more stoic as the current Head of the Black Mafia House. So he gave Davian an easy smile and snatched his overnight bag right out of the Alpha’s hands. "Don’t miss your flight," He said simply, heading for the stairs.
Davian watched him leave, gritting his teeth. He should have tried harder to convince Lake to ditch the Mafia with him, if he had he wouldn’t have to leave for another city to attend a conference.
Their appearance in Asher’s home was a common one now, and they were treated familiarly by the men standing guard, the men closing the gates after Davian drove out.
Lake stepped into the foyer with a frown, was Caspian still asleep? It was still a bit early. He hadn’t gotten the chance to call Caspian for the past few days because he had his hands full with convincing Davian, but now that Davian was gone, he realized that Caspian hadn’t called him either.
Davian had been the one to make the arrangements with Asher but he figured that the other Mafia King would tell his mate...
A tall shadow stepped in front of him as he approached the stairs.
"Jael? What are you doing here?"
Jael just stuck out a hand to take his bag with a sigh, "Asher wants your stay over to be a surprise."
Lake wasn’t surprised to hear that, he had already come to that conclusion before Jael showed up. "Right. So what’s my role?"
Jael led the way up the stairs, "Just make him think you’re here on a visit, and then let him convince you to stay the night."
Lake bit back a smile, he should be surprised that Asher made his right-hand man do this in person, but he really wasn’t. "And how long should I keep that ruse up?"
"As long as Caspian keeps falling for it." Jael said seriously then his voice dropped. "If it were up to me, I’d say you should tell him you’re staying over the moment you see him."
Lake chuckled, "Asher went through so much trouble to make this happen, I’ll play along for a bit."
"What room do you want?" Jael spoke casually, gesturing down at the hallway he had brought Lake to. "Caspian would probably give you a different one at night."
"Then it doesn’t matter which one I go for," Lake shrugged, "Where’s Caspian by the way? Is he still asleep?"
"He’s in the kitchen buying camping gear for an entire classroom." Jael said flatly, opening the door right next to them.
It was tastefully made with enough windows to let natural light in. He walked in and placed the overnight bag on the bed. "I’ll head out now. If you need anything, just call."
Lake heard Jael grumbling to himself as the Beta left the room, a smile on his face as he briefly poked his head into the bathroom.
Spending the next few days here was the perfect choice because everyone here felt so familiar to him, it softened the blow of Davian’s absence.
After his brief tour, he made his way out of his temporary bedroom and headed for the kitchen without bothering to unpack his bags.
Katya caught sight of him as soon as he entered the kitchen, the older Omega hurrying over with a smile on her face. "Lake! You came to visit! Come, the missus is in the study, I’ll take you to him right now."
Lake couldn’t get an edge word in, already used to Asher’s house staff referring to his friend as the boss’ missus. He could hear the endearment in their voices whenever they used the nickname.
Katya flung open the door with a proud expression, like she had been the one to go bring Lake all the way here. "Caspian! Look who is here to see you."
Caspian looked up from the laptop he had been huddled over with Patty by his side, crystal blue eyes going wide as he registered Lake’s presence.
"Lake!" He shot to his feet with a happy expression, "You didn’t tell me you were coming over."
"I wanted to surprise you," Lake said with an answering smile, unable to completely keep the dryness out of his voice.
Caspian latched onto his wrist and pulled him over to the desk, "Good thing you’re here, Patty and I were picking tents..."
Katya gave Lake two thumbs up and then darted out of the kitchen to continue her tasks.
Lake was bundled in the middle, after days of having Caspian drag her along, Patty had also found her interest in camping, excitedly offering suggestions.
