Chapter 380: -Chapter 380-
Lake was fully recovered the next morning but his mood was gloomy, Davian would be leaving the next morning for the conference, and he still hadn’t been able to convince the Alpha to take him along.
They would be having dinner with Lauren that evening, because Davian had to leave, and so did Lauren.
He didn’t even bother with dressing up like he usually did, wearing a cozy sweatshirt instead of his usual go-to. Fortunately, there wouldn’t be any meetings or events today, and he just had to deal with a few clients and call it a day.
Lake ignored Davian’s look of concern, unless the Alpha had changed his mind about taking him, he didn’t want the comfort.
He sighed as Davian drove them out of the mansion gates. Breakfast had been delicious, not only was Davian leaving but he wouldn’t be able to eat the Alpha’s cooking for nearly a week.
Davian bit back a smile at Lake’s tragic sigh, knowing that it was a trap, and if he tried to ask what was wrong, Lake would immediately try to con him into taking him along on the business trip.
He found it adorable, and if he was going to give in, he would have broken since. As soon as he came back from the conference, he would make the arrangements for them to go on a trip, even if it was just a weekend getaway.
Yesterday could have turned out worse than it did, but Lauren had always been reasonable and a simple conversation with her was enough to straighten things out.
Lake had been worn out by the time they got back to the mansion but fortunately, it didn’t affect the Omega’s appetite. After emptying an entire tub of ice cream, he napped and woke up starving in time for dinner.
And this morning, he was just as ravenous, a healthy glow to his face despite his constant sighing.
It almost made Davian want to ditch the conference, but with Lake in charge of everything now, he didn’t want to half-ass things and leave him to deal with it.
A smiling Rosie met them at the lobby, relief evident on her face at the sight of Lake. He didn’t blame her, Lake hadn’t looked great after the confrontation with Lauren.
He made a mental note to send Rosie on a little errand. Lake wouldn’t be coming in to the company while he was away at the conference because the Omega was supposed to be the one to attend anyway.
He would drive Lake over to Asher’s place before heading down to the airport. He had already spoken to Asher about it and the Alpha had been quick to agree, their conversation could even be described as friendly, it was very strange.

Caspian stepped out of his car to the warm morning sun, it was just mid-morning but he was already at the parking lot of the hospital, that was how much he wanted to get it over with.
"You guys can stay in the car," He turned to say to Keith and Peter, "I shouldn’t be long."
Doctor Brianna was familiar to Caspian’s bodyguards but they got out of the car regardless.
"It’s not like we’ll be doing much else in the car," Keith gave an excuse.
Doctor Brianna would no doubt toss them in a waiting room until Caspian was all done but they preferred that to hanging around in the car.
Caspian didn’t dissuade them, and as they got closer to the hospital, he searched for the familiar smiling face, and the large pink-framed glasses.
"Does Doctor Brianna know you’re coming today?" Peter asked with a frown, picking up on Caspian searching eyes.
"She was the one that reminded me to come," Caspian said thoughtfully, maybe she didn’t think that he would show up so early.
His hopeful thoughts were dashed when they got to the doctor’s private office and didn’t find her, instead a doctor Caspian had never seen before answered the door.
Now he frowned, looking past the Omega doctor standing in the doorway. "Where’s Doctor Brianna?"
Pinned to the new doctor’s breast pocket was a name tag, E. Brown. She nervously ruffled her hair, "She’s a bit under the weather so she took a short sick leave."
Caspian grew concerned, "Doctor Brianna is sick?"
"It’s nothing serious, just a cold, but she doesn’t want to pass it on to her patients. I’m just filling in for her temporarily. I’m Doctor Emma Brown, you can call me Emma."
Caspian relaxed slightly at that, he would still try to check up on Doctor Brianna, just to make sure that she was alright. "Caspian." He briefly introduced himself, "I have a routine checkup with Doctor Brianna."
Emma stepped back so he could walk in, her kind eyes going over Keith and Peter but she said nothing about them. "She did hand me her patient files, so there’s no need for us to go over everything again. Just give me a moment to set things up, and please," She turned to the two Betas that had accompanied Caspian, "If you two could hang out in that waiting room till we’re done."
Peter and Keith were still skeptical about the sudden change of doctors, but they couldn’t stay in the room anyway when Caspian was getting his checkup, and Brianna’s replacement hadn’t been an Alpha so they could do nothing but be on guard.
Emma had her dark hair neatly bound and when she was done checking his files on the system, she washed her hands and put on clean gloves.
The new doctor was pleasant, although she was far younger than Doctor Brianna and less nosy, Caspian found that he couldn’t relax. Had Brianna sent him an email while she was sick? Why hadn’t she mentioned it?
Emma gave him a reassuring smile at his worried expression, "Please relax, this will only take a few minutes..."
Out in the waiting room, Keith and Peter exchanged knowing looks.
"Think we should report this to the boss?" Keith broke the silence.
Peter frowned, "Doctor Brianna might be really sick."
Keith caught on to his partner’s unspoken words, informing Mafia King Asher was basically them admitting that there was something foul going on, the boss wouldn’t be quiet about that.
"Jael then?" He suggested instead.
Peter already had his phone out as soon as he said that.
