Chapter 367: -Chapter 367-

That furrow was back between Davian’s brows and Lake knew that the Alpha was about to jump to some silly conclusion.

"You don’t like it?" He frowned.

"I do," Lake bluntly clarified, "But do you?"

Davian refocused on the hairpin, "It’s a bloodline gem," He said flippantly like it wasn’t a big deal. "The House of Black uses gold and black diamonds."

Lake was stunned, of all the explanations Davian could have given him, he hadn’t been expecting this.

He had a lot of things he wanted to say to that but none seemed right so he just stayed quiet instead.

The clips were on both sides of his hair, doing a great job of keeping the long dark brown hair out of his eyes.

"Where did you learn to use hairpins?" Lake asked with amusement.

Davian treating him like he was already a part of the Black House caused him complicated feelings.

"I watched videos," Davian answered, his answer brief but genuine.

Lake watched Davian leave, the Alpha had always been that way, open and honest.

A faint smile softened his face as he lightly touched the delicate hairpin, he should just come clean about his grievances instead of putting himself through undue stress.

Tonight, when they get back from Caspian’s engagement dinner. And if not tonight, then tomorrow.

They had already sorted out the case of the defective weapons, it had dead-ended with a no-name gang that was just starting out.

And although a lot of things didn’t add up, like how they managed to produce the ammunition, however subpar they were, there were no more leads.

So after a hectic week, they could finally get a day to lay in bed all day like Davian had asked for.

It was a cool evening but the skies were clear, Davian had made him take a jacket regardless, opening the door for him and then handing him the fur-lined jacket.

It was warm and Lake couldn’t help gathering it into his arms. He wasn’t cold enough to wear it yet.

Davian had worn a black muscle shirt and tactical pants. His shirt looked really thin but Lake didn’t see any jacket around for the Alpha.

"Won’t you get cold?" He asked with concern.

Davian put the car in gear and drove out, "Worried?"

"I’m not giving you my jacket," Lake held the outfit that Davian had brought for him protectively.

Davian’s smile was genuine, a rare expression these days. Although Lake treated him so well, he knew that he had been the one to completely upend the Omega’s life so he always tried to step carefully.

He couldn’t be too greedy, he couldn’t ask for too much. He just had to be content with whatever Lake gave him and try not to lose what he already had.

Caspian adjusted the black lacy gloves he had on, on the search for Lake in the growing crowd of guests.

Jael appeared out of thin air, his holsters strapped with guns in them, white shirt rolled up at the sleeves.

"Lake isn’t here yet," He supplied without Caspian needing to ask, already knowing what had the beautiful Omega so unsettled.

"And Asher?" Caspian spoke, having none of the enthusiasm he had with Lake, and with good reason too.

Not only had Asher insisted on accompanying him to choose an outfit for the engagement party, the Alpha had also forgotten their rings at the mansion.

Caspian already agreed to not wearing a backless outfit again but shopping with Asher had been aggravating. He had bought every single outfit he tried on, and then asked him not to wear it to the engagement.

Even the outfit he currently had on had been quite the struggle, but other than this, his only option was a bathrobe, or skinny jeans and a printed shirt.

Seeing how much aversion Asher had to dress shirts, he decided to forego them completely.

He wore a dark red velvet waistcoat and a matching jacket. It left a deep V down his front, the waistcoat hugging his slender waist perfectly.

Silver jewelry encrusted with rubies hung down his neck, providing some coverage. Asher had a lot of complaints about the outfit but at the time that Caspian had gotten it, he had stopped humoring his mate.

"Should be on his way back," Jael said shortly, disappearing into the crowd again.

With the number of high-profile names in Haines showing up at the engagement party, Jael had to be on duty.

Asher had been the one to handle the invitations, Caspian just included the people he also wanted to invite. But he had been in charge of the design of the invitation cards, well more like Quinn had been.

Talking about Quinn, Caspian had spoken to the wedding planner earlier, he had invited the pregnant Omega, and Quinn had brought his mate who Caspian finally got to meet.

So he didn’t know most of the people at the party, at least not personally.

Caspian wasn’t even supposed to be in the main hall, he was supposed to be in a back room, but he didn’t want to miss Lake when the Omega came in.

Quinn’s vision had come to life and the Omega had been so excited, smiling nonstop and showing his mate around while talking his ear off. Caspian shot the Alpha an apologetic look as they walked off.

Caspian had found a quiet corner with a great view of the exits. It wasn’t too strange that he wasn’t nervous. He was already married to Asher, after all, this was simply a party they were throwing.

The incoming guests gave him a wide berth, and for good reason too. The last time he had been to an event with Asher, very few people had known who Caspian was, and the ones that knew thought he was just a bought Omega.

But now as Asher’s mate, and also husband, no one dared approach him while he was alone, not even to congratulate him.

"Looking for me?" A low voice murmured beside his ear.

Caspian didn’t bother turning around, "I wasn’t."

Asher held his jaw and turned his face to him, "Are you still mad at me..."

He trailed off there because there were a couple of reasons now why Caspian would be upset with him.
