Chapter 359: -Chapter 359-
The gang member’s expression darkened at Lake’s words, his finger solidly on the trigger. "Don’t fuck with me."
Lake had been dead serious, "If I don’t pick, he’s going to come here." He calmly told the gun-toting Alpha.
The Alpha couldn’t come to a decision until the call dropped, shaken by the possibility of getting to speak with Davian in person.
Lake was fine with Davian having fanboys, what he didn’t appreciate however, was those fans trying to put a bullet in his head.
His phone started ringing almost instantly again, making the Alpha flinch. "Don’t you dare pick."
Lake hadn’t been about to, not picking would only bring Davian over much quicker. But unfortunately, the ruckus finally attracted Rosie’s attention.
The secretary’s eyes narrowed as she took a step closer, "Lake? Is something wrong."
"No, everything is fine." He said in a rush, the Alpha might hesitate to shoot him but he had a feeling he wouldn’t have such misgivings when it came to Rosie. "Could you step out for a bit?"
Rosie’s feet were rooted to the ground, she clearly didn’t believe Lake but she couldn’t see the gun the Alpha held from where she stood and she had never had a reason not to listen to the Omega before.
Reluctantly, she turned around and walked out, her fingers flying rapidly over her pad as she left the office.
"So Davian just has to take over again?" Lake asked calmly, his eyes never leaving the gun pointed at him.
The Alpha faltered at that, he didn’t predict that things would go this way. The Omega was far too calm, he had expected the sensitive and pregnant Omega to break down crying.
"You’re running out of time," Lake reminded the Alpha when he couldn’t give a response.
For the first time, the Alpha heard the ruckus that had started up, the noise getting closer and closer. No doubt, Rosie had picked up on what was going on and had mobilized men, or it could just be Davian...
The Alpha’s hand trembled, his expression getting more frenzied. "I’m not going to let you make a fool of me." He said through gritted teeth.
Lake really wished it didn’t have to come to this, he had tried to stall for time or at least convince the Alpha to back out.
Time seemed to slow down as the Alpha pushed down on the trigger, Lake grimaced when he crumbled down in his seat next, the gun falling to the tabletop.
The recoil of the gun in Lake’s hand hurt, the office door getting broken in next. The expression on Davian’s face as he stood at the doorway would haunt Lake for years, it made him momentarily forget that he had just shot a man.
"I-I’m fine," He spoke up, his voice still unsteady.
Davian swept into the office then, a group of men with their guns drawn right behind him.
Lake still had the jeweled gun in his hand like he had forgotten how to let go when Davian pulled him into his arms. He couldn’t say who was trembling harder between the two of them.
Davian pried the gun from his shaking hands and shot it one more time, the groaning gang member dropping with a dull thud.
He had just gotten to the door of the office when he heard the shot go off. Davian had to glance down to make sure he wasn’t bleeding because it had felt like the bullet had gone right through him.
His body had moved on autopilot despite the lancing pain, he didn’t even have the time to brace himself for what he would get to see on the other side.
Davian had almost lost everything, his heart still thudded painfully even after he held Lake in his arms, the Omega completely unharmed.
"Davian..." Lake had to interrupt Davian, fighting down the urge to gag. "I... blood," He tried to verbalize his wants while still recovering from what had just happened.
Davian blanched, pulling away to inspect Lake. "Are you bleeding?"
Lake gagged this time, his mood souring. "No, it’s the smell of blood..." Another gag interrupted his words.
That was Davian’s cue to pick the pregnant Omega up. It lightened the mood somewhat to have this happen, the people at the door parting to let him pass.
"Clean this place up," Davian tossed over a shoulder as his long legs ate up the hallway.
Lake had his face tucked in his neck as he was carried and it soothed the pain in Davian’s chest. He held the Omega as close as he could without discomforting him as they rode the elevator down.
Without the overpowering stench of blood and his reaction to it, Lake became clearheaded. It also helped that Davian was right there, he didn’t have to worry about being in danger.
He stifled a sound in the privacy of the elevator, he couldn’t say if it was laughter or a sob.
"Lake?" Davian’s familiar voice trembled with worry. "Are you..."
"I shot his dick." Lake said before Davian could complete his question, snorting this time.
Davian paused for a second and then silently sighed. Lake was always so strong, he had been so worried about the Omega needing to kill someone to protect himself.
This eased him somewhat but he was still unhappy, he didn’t want Lake dealing with this, especially not while he was pregnant.
Davian had told Lake about the secret compartment under the desk that held a gun but he had just done it just for the sake of it, he never planned for Lake to need to use it.
Weapons weren’t allowed on the people who set up appointments with him, and this rule was heavily carried out after Lake took over. Someone was going to be explaining while a gun got in.
By the time they were in the car on their way back to the mansion, Lake had gotten over his nausea but the Omega didn’t stop clinging to him.
Davian’s mood was shit the entire drive, the Beta in the driver’s seat nervous the entire trip back to the mansion.
