Chapter 355: -Chapter 355-
Nikolai barely focused on his surroundings, his attention on the group of five in front of him who all acted familiarly with each other.
Again, he found himself wondering just why he had screwed himself over by showing up.
Nikolai was so caught up in his thoughts that he startled slightly when Caspian popped out in front of him, the Omega’s delicate beauty seemed to have bloomed even more.
"I’m really happy you decided to join us," Caspian said kindly, ignoring the dark stares he was getting from Asher.
"You should listen to your husband and keep your distance," Nikolai dropped his voice to say.
Caspian was a little shaken by that, taking a step back. He hadn’t forgotten for a moment just how terrifying Nikolai could be. "Right." He murmured, turning around to leave. "Sit anywhere."
Nikolai felt a bit better now that everyone was wary of him, sitting at the far end of the dining table. The maids that brought lunch trembled as they served him, darting off just as quickly as they came.
At the other end of the table, all five of them were happily chatting and laughing, easily ignoring his presence.
And as Nikolai fought against his reflexes not to pull out another cigar, he wondered for the umpteenth time just what he was doing there.
With that, he rose to his feet without taking a bite, slipping soundlessly out of the room. Jael had been the only one to catch his movements, a furrow creasing on his brows.
"Be right back," He muttered as he rose to his feet and went after the Mafia King.
He had no expectations when it came to Nikolai, the Mafia King was perfectly capable of anything, there were barely any streaks of gray in his moral theme.
He caught up with him at the stairs, a hand slipping into the waistline of his pants to hold his gun.
"I’m just leaving early." Nikolai waved a hand without turning around, "I wouldn’t ruin a wedding."
Despite the Mafia King’s words, Jael tailed him the entire way, waiting at the stairs until the Mafia King was long gone, the gates closing after his car.
As he returned to the dining room, he made arrangements for the house staff to clear out Nikolai’s untouched dishes, resuming his seat just as inconspicuously as he left.
"It’s my best friend’s wedding, I’m allowed to eat cake..." Lake was defending himself.
"Not if you’re eating just cake," Davian protested, looking to Caspian for help.
"He’s right, Lake, you should eat something more..."
"More cake?" Asher threw into the fray, stoking the fires for the fun of it.
Lunch was so lively that it took a while for the rest to notice Nikolai’s absence and when they did, no one said a thing about it.
Lake and Davian left mid-afternoon, Lake having a brief conversation with Asher as they went down the stairs.
He had already said goodbye to his friend, and Caspian had to leave the dining table a little early to get out of his corset.
Lake didn’t have to hold this conversation with Asher right then, but he wanted to stall for time, turning a blind eye to Asher’s obvious impatience when he kept bringing up new lines of conversation.
Eventually, they had to get in the car and leave, Davian doing the driving while Lake got comfortable in the passenger’s seat, a smile on his face as they started for home.
Asher didn’t even wait to see them leave, turning around to start up the stairs, his claustrophobic suit jacket already going off.
Jael had already gone off to his room, he had taken the day off, and rightfully so. He had already sent off the pictures to be printed, so he was going to be taking a well-deserved nap after eating so much for lunch.
In Asher’s room, Caspian nearly tripped in his haste. It was a silly prank to play, and now that he was all dressed, he was starting to second-guess himself.
As well as his wedding outfit, he had also gotten a wedding dress. It had sounded like fun at the moment and Lake had been supportive but now that he had a veil over his head and was seated at the edge of the bed waiting for Asher, he felt a little silly.
He had even gone through the whole process, wearing a complete set of lingerie underneath the lacy wedding dress with a voluminous skirt.
Caspian rose to his feet, feeling like he was going to throw up the lunch he just had as he paced across the carpet, his bare feet encased in lacy stockings.
Just as he was about to reach his limit and rip the dress off, the door swung open, the very action impatient.
Asher already had his waistcoat off, his bowtie in a hand as he undid his buttons with his other hand. He took a few steps into the room after closing the door behind him before he noticed Csspian.
For what felt like an eternity, they both stared at each other, frozen for a lifetime.
Then Asher broke into a wide grin, sharp canines flashing, his pierced tongue sliding over the sharp tips.
"Did I keep my bride waiting too long?" He started slowly for Caspian.
The Omega went a bright red beneath his white veil, his heartbeat thumping harder and faster with every step that Asher took toward him.
Of course, there had been no reason to worry. Asher had never cared about him wearing dresses, just like the Alpha had never cared about his gender.
Caspian stood patiently, waiting for him to close the distance and lift the veil, his nose so red he could feel it burn up.
"May I?" Asher asked gently when he was right in front of him.
Caspian nodded almost imperceptibly but Asher caught onto the gesture, gently lifting the veil with burning hazel eyes.
All of the fire in Asher’s eyes was doused when he caught a glimpse of Caspian’s face, his expression became tormented as he gathered the Omega in his arms. "What- Why are you crying?"
Caspian tried to muffle his sniffles, a downturned smile breaking through his tears. "I’m just so happy..."
