Davian stared down at where Lake’s hand had connected, getting with the program and following after Lake.

Having his breakfast in the car while Lake drove was the perfect distraction. He barely tasted the food but at least his icy cold shower hadn’t lost its effectiveness.

BlueAir was a much smaller company than FluxCorp, and the security at the gates hastily let them in at the sight of Davian.

"Good morning," A secretary was at the entrance to greet them, looking harried.

"The meeting room is this way please." She glanced down at her tablet as she spoke. "It’ll begin in a few minutes and almost all of the board members have arrived."

Lake listened to her speak, he had been too busy reading up on the reports of the company workings to find out about the other board members.

Not that it mattered, he would be getting to see the rest of the board in a scant few minutes.

"There are two waiting rooms on either side of the boardroom, and you’re welcome to either of them for any reason." The secretary tagged on as they got to their destination, pointing out the waiting rooms.

At that moment, her tablet pinged, stress lines showing up on her forehead.

"Please excuse me," She muttered to them, hurrying down the hallway they just through.

There was a soft murmur of conversation in the boardroom, the hallway empty after the secretary made herself scarce.

"Do you want to go in now?" Lake turned to Davian, they could do that, or they could hang out in one of the waiting rooms until the meeting began.

"Yes," Davian replied a little too quickly. He would rather avoid being alone in a room with Lake.

He stepped forward and pushed open the door, it turned out to be more crowded than Lake expected, the heavy doors had muted the conversations.

There were only a few seats open and none were together much to Lake’s disapproval.

The board room fell silent when they both stepped in, Lake getting most of the attention.

"Davian," A familiar voice broke the impasse, a pretty face smiling in their direction as she rose to her feet. "I’ve been waiting for you, I even kept a seat for you."

As Bella Blackburn spoke, she patted the empty seat next to her.

Lake’s expression darkened, and without waiting to see what decision Davian would make, he strode forward and chose the seat right across from the chair she offered Davian, staring the heiress down.

Davian languidly strolled over to the offered seat. Outwardly he was a brick wall but inwardly, panic clawed up his ribs.

He was sitting across from Lake, their positions couldn’t get worse than this. He would have ignored Bella’s invite and sat literally anywhere else but his body had moved on autopilot after Lake made the first move.

Now all he could see was the Omega across from him. This was going to be an endless meeting.

On the other side of the table, Lake narrowed his eyes. The board executives had already gone back to their conversations, over the presence of the newest addition to the boardroom.

Bella had immediately struck up a conversation with Davian - well, it was more her doing all the talking while Davian barely listened.

Lake had no issues with Davian about this, it was clearly Bella doing all of the clinging.

He really wanted to know what she hoped to achieve, she couldn’t claim not to be aware of his presence.

The longer Bella spoke to Davian, the darker his expressions became. He had wanted to act unbothered by choosing to sit here instead, but instead, all it gave him was a front seat to Bella trying to get under Davian’s skin.

He should have sat in the seat Bella offered instead but even as he thought that, he knew he would never do that. It wasn’t like he had any hold over the Mafia King...

If anything, if Davian went for Bella or anyone else, it would be because he actually felt something for them.

Because, outside of his rut, Davian didn’t even seem interested in sex. That was the one thing that hadn’t changed even after Lake got past his cold, forbidding exterior.

He scowled as half an hour went by, the meeting was supposed to begin in a few minutes but it had already been far longer than that. Lake really didn’t want to spend more time than necessary in this room.

"Who are we waiting for?" Another executive voiced out Lake’s thoughts.

"A lot of us have other appointments," Someone else supported, murmurs of dissension starting up.

The CEO of Blue Air cleared his throat and rose to his feet with an apology on the tip of his tongue.

"There’s only a single board member unavailable so it might be best we begin without..."

The door swung open at that point to reveal the very last person Lake expected to see.

Clint.

The Alpha felt like a jinx, he showed up everywhere he went.

Fortunately, the only seat available was at the other end of the table and Clint hadn’t even seen him when he walked in.

The CEO glibly went on now that the table was complete, plunging into the topic of discussion without further delay.

The next half hour was spent explaining things that Lake had already read up on, his straying eyes drifting back to Davian and Bella to catch the clingy heiress sneakily putting both of her hands under the desk.

Lake’s eyes narrowed, it was a good thing he already knew what was going on, because he could no longer focus on the discussion.

His suspicions flared when Davian flicked his eyes over at Bella, the heiress giving him a slow smile.

If Lake could redo the next moment over, he would have done things very differently.

The table in the board room was long but not very wide, so his legs could easily reach the other side, and without thinking he shot a leg out, planning to put a barrier of sorts between Bella and Davian.
