Chapter 323: -Chapter 323-
"Had to check in to make sure you were alive," His friend was saying.
Caspian pouted, "Hardly. Asher wouldn’t even let me stay in the same room as him."
Lake was too slow to catch his snicker, "I’m sorry. How is Asher now?"
"His fever has broken but he still won’t let me in the room," He complained.
"Tell him you’re coming to pay me a visit," Lake was quick to cook up some more bad advice.
"That could work," Caspian said reluctantly, warming up to another one of his friend’s questionable suggestions. "Were you able to go shopping?"
"Yeah, I went with Davian... and you’ve got to see the outfit we settled on... hold on..." There was a break in the conversation then like Lake was talking to someone else.
"I’m sorry, Caspian, I’ve got to go, I’ll call you later."
Caspian rose to his feet when the call dropped, relieved that Lake was able to find an outfit he liked.
His friend seemed to be adjusting to his new circumstances, and Davian was a decent Alpha which was saying a lot considering that he was a Mafia King.
But so was his mate... Caspian gingerly knocked on the door. "Asher? Baby? Can I come in?""Not yet," Asher’s raspy voice replied in a heartbeat.
"Then I can go see Lake, right-"
Caspian’s words were cut short by the door swinging open, unsurprised by his Alpha’s reaction.
"You’re sick, you shouldn’t be out of bed." He took Asher’s hand and led him into the room, the Alpha following docilely.
He should have called Lake for a solution a long time ago, and he wouldn’t have had to sleep in the next room.

Davian chose a seat right in front. The quicker he learned to cook, the sooner he could stay by Lake’s side.
A bubbly Omega walked in all smiles when most of the seats were filled, about to greet her class, when she locked gazes with the student right in front of the teacher’s desk.
Davian met her gaze calmly, used to such reactions after he had gotten it from every other student attending the class, and it wasn’t just women.
"Well," She cleared her throat, "I’m Miss Grace, as some of you already know, and we’ll be beginning our class in a bit."
There were stools provided behind the student counters so that they weren’t constantly standing, and Davian itched to get off his, eager for the class to begin.
He soon learned that although they were in different classes, some were more ahead than others, the bubbly cooking teacher giving every student equal attention regardless of how well they could cook.
"For the beginners, we’ll start with a simple dish..."
Mid-sentence, a final student sauntered in. His pale blue eyes were distracted even as he slipped behind an empty counter.
Although he was the only other Alpha other than Davian, he barely paid him attention. It also helped that the other Alpha equally ignored him, or more like he hadn’t noticed him, joining the class with ease...
"You have a natural talent for this, Alpha Davian." Miss Grace said to him as the class cleared out, her smile beaming.
The teacher had struggled to figure out how to address him, and she finally settled on what she was most comfortable with - Davian couldn’t be bothered either way.
"Thank you," He muttered, catching the other Alpha who had come late leaving the class out of the corner of his eye.
The teacher’s praises were all well and good but only Lake’s opinion mattered because he would be cooking solely for the Omega.
Davian shot to his feet when Lake showed up, his dark eyes brightening up even though he was expecting him.
"You came."
Lake’s smile was gentle, "We’ve got to go home together, of course, I did." He replied, getting a good look at what the Alpha cooked up for his first class.
"How was class?" Lake sat down on the stool Davian offered him.
"Want to give it a try?" Davian offered with far more anxiety than he had while the teacher was scoring his work.
Lake looked down at the sketchy pancakes, Davian’s cooking was always good, it was what prompted him to take a bite.
"It’s good!" He exclaimed with bright eyes.
Davian was about to deliver a dry quip but instead, he basked in the compliment. "Do you want pancakes for lunch?" He asked, eager to show off his skills.
It would be a bit of a late lunch but it didn’t matter much.
"Sure," He agreed, getting to his feet. "What’s going to happen to the rest of these pancakes?"
Miss Grace was close enough to hear the question so she provided an answer. "You’re welcome to take it with you, but we always donate our edible leftovers to a shelter."
Davian looked concerned, "You want us to take these?" He asked with heavy disappointment.
"No," Lake said with soft laughter, "I just didn’t want it to waste. Let’s go."
The cashier had already grown accustomed to them at that point, so she waved them off as they went past the little lobby.
Lake immediately delved into how he spent his time away from Davian, informing him about the secretaries’ progress.
"Do you remember that the Mafia King quarterly meeting is coming up?" He asked as they got in the car.
Lake let Davian drive, too busy talking to focus on the road.
"Do you want to come along?" Davian asked without missing a beat.
It was a good thing Lake wasn’t driving then because he was certain he would have lost control of the car at that question.
"What?! But I’m not a Mafia King."
Davian nearly got ahead of himself and was about to offer his title to Lake. "You don’t need to be to attend, plus you’re more or less in charge of things now."
When Davian put it that way, it made a lot of sense to Lake. He also knew one of the Mafia Kings, so it really couldn’t be that bad.
"Then, maybe I should." He accepted hesitantly.
