Chapter 298: -Chapter 298-
"She did what?" Davian cut him off, his tone sharp, gray eyes stormy.
Lake flinched lightly, not expecting Davian to be upset at Matilda instead of him.
"I-It was when you traveled, and I really had no choice..."
Despite himself, Lake really wanted to fix his idea of Davian’s perception of him.
"Then she approached me just yesterday, promising to waive my debt if I kept the news drugging away from you- But that’s not why I did it!" Lake said in a rush, his hand in a tight fist around his fork.
Davian forced himself to listen intently, and not demand for more information about Matilda’s deeds.
He had stopped wondering about his blatant bias for Lake, but it was one-sided, so Lake’s feelings were valid.
The Omega could stab him right in the chest and he wouldn’t be upset, but he doubted there was a way he could communicate that to Lake.
"I wanted to gather more information, because I also suspected that Arthur was involved... so... so that’s why I didn’t tell you, not because of the money." Lake trailed off, slightly out of breath from nerves and from talking so much.
He wasn’t just saying that to paint himself as a saint, he really could afford to pay Matilda all of her money back.
"That’s fine," Davian said, careful with his words. "I should have paid more attention to what was going on in the mansion."
And he meant that in the case of Lake getting drugged without his knowledge, and also Lake getting kicked out of the mansion without his knowledge.
Regarding that, he had some things he needed to have arranged.
Lake’s jaw went slack, so surprised by the outcome of things that he lost his filter for a moment.
"You’re not mad?"
"Oh, I am." Davian said calmly, "So I’ll leave the dinner table early to have it dealt with..."
Lake’s brain worked overtime to figure out that none of Davian’s anger was directed at him.
"Do you want more chocolate cake?" Davian tagged on.
"Yes," Lake replied before his brain could catch up with his words.
"Wait! What’s going to happen to the rest of the cakes?" He asked in a slight panic, decidedly ignoring that his ’favorite’ cake had been found.
Davian was already half out of his seat, "I’ll give them out, and refrigerate the leftovers."
Lake found that he couldn’t be upset with the arrangements. He did want more chocolate cake, and giving the other cakes out meant that none would go to waste.
There also wasn’t a lot of leftovers, barely enough for a single person to eat again, and that was because while Davian put away his food, he had only eaten cake.
"Oh," He deflated, getting to his feet as well. There was no reason to deceive himself that he would eat anymore.
"Return to your room, I’ll have the cake brought to you."
The order was said so naturally that Lake already started for the door before he could even come up with a protest.
He swallowed down the protests bubbling up and did as he was told.
Davian wasn’t upset with him, Matilda and Arthur were gone as well as the unwanted stranger from last night.
Things frankly couldn’t have gone any better, not to mention, he would also be getting more chocolate cake.
Lake stretched as he made his way down the hallways that were still as empty as the day after he showed up at the mansion.
He didn’t realize how much of a weight Matilda and Arthur were on his shoulders until they were gone.
He made mental plans as he stepped into his new room, he would take a shower, and make a call to Caspian while he waited for his chocolate cake.
Maybe after everything had blown over, he could ask Davian if Caspian could come over again.
He knew that was the most likely way he would get to see Caspian in person because Davian wasn’t letting him leave the mansion without him in tow.
They would have to find a solution for that soon, because there was only so long he could tolerate that for.
Lake took a quick shower, deciding to wash his hair although that made his shower much longer.
By the time he stepped out of the bathroom in a bathroom, his hair covered with a towel, there was already another cake sitting covered in his room.
He appreciated Davian getting him small cakes, because he didn’t trust himself not to finish a many-tiered cake and then proceed to regret it.
He planned to call Caspian before the cake showed up but he might have to do that while he ate.
He didn’t bother blow-drying his hair, he wasn’t exactly in a rush. So he just toweled it enough to stop it dripping and brushed it out.
With that, his preparations were done, and he could hop on the bed with his cake to make a much-needed call.
He couldn’t believe he had seen Caspian just the day before, so much had happened since his friend left that it felt like a week at least.
Lake wisely laid out a towel on the bed so he didn’t smear chocolate on the bed.
He didn’t want to eat in the new room but Davian had told him to come here, maybe he could arrange for a sitting area in one of the empty corners.
The call rang for a bit before Caspian picked up, the sounds of gunshots coming from a device in the background.
"Lake! Hi!" Caspian’s cheery voice always brought him dopamine.
"Hey," Lake said with a smile, "Were you busy before I called?"
"I was playing a game," The Omega was quick to report, "But it’s so boring playing alone." He pouted.
Lake couldn’t help his chuckle, "I could watch you play, I’m no good at games."
"Then I’ll teach you," Caspian quickly offered, "Can I switch to video?" He politely asked despite his enthusiasm.
When Caspian offered to teach him, he didn’t think that they would be having their first class right then.
"Sure," He humored, he wasn’t exactly doing much else.
