"So you’ll have these men drag me out?" Caspian indulged her, stepping protectively in front of Lake.

He didn’t know what this lady’s deal was but she made Lake very anxious, and he didn’t like that.

Matilda smugly gestured for the men to come closer, "Merely doing my duties, it’s a safety thing, you know." She went on patronizingly, coming down the last step.

"This is Mafia King Davian’s home, I can’t just let anyone waltz in as they like."

Caspian stared at her blankly as she went on her tirade, unfazed.

Lake didn’t share his confidence, however, he knew a bit of how twisted Matilda could be and how she would still try to kick Caspian out even if they admitted that Davian knew about his visit.

The men that Matilda ordered in came close until they saw who it was they had to ’drag’ away.

Caspian narrowed his eyes at them as they froze in front of him, unhappy with this interruption to the conversation he should have been having with Lake.

Matilda straightened up and cleared her throat nervously. "What do you think you’re doing?" She glared at them, "Take him out."

Caspian couldn’t help but feel bad for the guards who were just doing their jobs because they couldn’t touch him but they also couldn’t ignore Matilda’s orders.

"Leave," He waved a hand at them, turning to face Matilda when they made themselves scarce to her complete shock.

"As the mate of a Mafia King, I couldn’t be here if Davian wasn’t aware," He mimicked her patronizing tone back to her, holding Lake’s arm.

"Matilda Black, was it? I’ll remember you." He told her ominously, turning to Lake with a smile, "Let’s go."

Matilda staggered back a step, racking her brains. She didn’t really keep track of the other Mafia Kings because they were none of her business.

She put all her eggs in one basket when it came to Davian so she didn’t know what was going on with the other two Mafia Kings.

A Mafia King was mated? And his mate was friends with Lake?

Matilda was sure she was about to start hyperventilating right then.

How did a delicate Omega like him manage to get a Mafia King as a mate?

With his effeminate pink clothes and diminutive stature, there was no way she could have guessed who he was.

In the shadows behind a pillar, Arthur watched Matilda fall apart with a smile.

Even though he was staying out of sight unless Master Davian summoned him, he still kept track of everything happening in the mansion.

So he knew the moment Matilda approached Lake and Caspian, and he had settled in to watch her make the biggest mistake of her life.

He could have warned her before she made her blunder but why would he do that? They were only allies when it came to getting rid of Lake, Caspian had nothing to do with that.

"I didn’t know Davian had an aunt?" Caspian chirped as they walked out of the foyer.

Lake rubbed his free hand over his face, "I’m really sorry about that."

Caspian just shrugged, he had experience in dealing with entitled women. "I don’t mind. Does she bother you?"

Lake considered telling Caspian all he knew but decided against it, it wasn’t the right time, yet.

"She just doesn’t approve of my relationship with Davian," He watered it down.

"Then she can take it up with Davian," Caspian grumbled.

Lake laughed at the image that presented, Matilda was only mouthy when Davian wasn’t there.

She lost her claws pretty fast whenever he showed up, so he doubted that would ever be happening.

They got to the quiet and cozy room in a short while, Caspian joining Lake on the couch he sat on.

"What did Davian say about the baby?" Caspian plunged into the serious part of their conversation.

"He said he wants it." Lake shrugged.

The blonde Omega smiled at that, "So when are you going back to your apartment?"

Lake wilted at the excitement in Caspian’s voice as he asked that.

"I won’t be," He murmured, "Davian asked me to stay here."

Caspian paused, "With Matilda here?" He frowned.

"I won’t let her stay here for too long," Lake said with conviction, enough of it to somewhat convince Caspian.

Done with talking about Matilda, Caspian was quick to change the conversation, his crystal blue eyes zeroing in on Lake’s neck.

"Are you going to tell me when that happened?" He asked lightly, a curious smile on his face.

"Sorry to disappoint you but it’s not recent..."

Caspian unfortunately couldn’t stay very long because his mate was already having withdrawal symptoms in his absence.

Lake couldn’t believe that he could relate to that, maybe it was a Mafia King thing.

He waved his friend off at the stairs leading to the front door, the sky turning a warm red.

Lake frowned at his bare feet as he went back into the mansion, he should try to get indoor shoes.

After their initial conversation, his discussion with Caspian devolved into the harmless meaningless conversations they mostly had.

But those were the best, things that didn’t require much thought and little emotional strain.

Honestly, Lake was surprised that Davian hadn’t come to find him yet, the Alpha was being really tolerant about their separation.

He started up the stairs and then paused at the sight of Matilda... again.

She was like a plague, always lurking around.

"What do you want now?" He asked without waiting for her to speak first.

Matilda’s face twisted like her next words were too painful to say. "I just wanted to apologize to your f-friend."

"Sure, I’ll let him know," Lake said dryly, making a move to walk past her.

"And," Her sharp voice stopped him in his steps. "I wanted to talk to you."

Lake turned to her, tucking his hair behind his ear. "Well, get it out with."

Matilda looked like she was about to explode from anger but she composed herself, not at all easily.
