Captive Mate BL -

Chapter 274: -Chapter 274-
"His friend," Caspian was quick to say, worry lines etched into his head. "He wasn’t picking his calls and he’s not answering the door."
The security man eased off at the look of distress on the face of the pretty Omega.
He looked to be someone important, and he didn’t even need to look at his dangerous bodyguards to know that - the car they had driven had been a dead giveaway.
"Well," The man with the bushy beard cleared his throat, "He went out in the morning and hasn’t been back yet, maybe try calling again."
"Did he leave with anyone?"
"Not that I remember."
"Thank you," Caspian murmured, walking back to Keith and Peter.
The bodyguards had been listening in on the conversation so he didn’t have to repeat it.
It was starting to get late, soon, the sun would set and it would be night.
The information given by the security was very concerning, because Lake wasn’t the type to be eager to leave his apartment.
Was there really nothing they could do but wait and see?
"I need to call Asher," He let them know, looking and sounding drained.
Peter and Keith shared a look, saying nothing as Caspian walked a short distance away to make his call.
His phone rang before he could place a call, pleasantly surprised at the thought of Asher coincidentally calling him at the same time that he had been about to call his mate.
Caspian glanced at the caller ID only briefly only to get stuck on his phone’s screen.
Because the person calling him wasn’t Asher but Lake!
He picked in a hurry, barely getting over his shock. "Lake! Are you alright? Where are you? What’s going on?"

Lake winced at Caspian’s panicked rapid-fire questions, guilt thrumming softly.
Caspian sounded really frenzied, and the missed calls he had gotten from his friend showed exactly why.
He had barely heard his phone ringing, and even after he did, it wasn’t like he could just get off the bed and pick up the phone.
Even after finally grabbing his phone from the pocket of his discarded jeans, Davian had snatched him up again, the Alpha nuzzling his neck as they basked in their afterglow.
"I’ll tell you all about it later," He answered, his exhaustion audible in his voice.
Lake just wanted to eat, take a shower, and sleep for several hours, but he doubted the Alpha clinging to him would give him that luxury.
Explaining everything that had happened to Caspian would be a treat but he would cross that bridge when he got to it.
"I’m alright, I promise. I’m at Mafia King Davian’s mansion." He gave a brief but concise response.
"Oh, okay," Caspian deflated, his anxiousness lightening at Lake’s reassurance. "Just call me when you can, okay?"
"Will do," Lake sighed, sinking back against Davian’s arms despite himself.
He had become so used to being alone that it was a little strange having someone be so distressed and worried over him.
He couldn’t say if he whispered a quiet ’thank you’ before or after the call dropped, his eyelids drooping.
Lake should get to his feet and try to negotiate taking a shower alone but he didn’t move, dozing off against the warmth of Davian’s body.
-+-
Caspian stared at his phone, the furrow between his brow still prominent although he had finally spoken to Lake.
His friend sounded off despite his reassurances that he was fine, but Caspian didn’t want to push too hard.
The only thing he could do now was trust Lake to keep to his word.
His phone rang again, and it was so startling that he nearly dropped his device. His mate was the one calling this time...
"Hi-"
"You’re not at home," Asher cut him off, the Alpha sounding panicked.
Caspian winced - he really should have informed Asher before leaving.
But he hadn’t been expecting the quick expedition to Lake’s apartment to take this long.
He was supposed to have found his friend in his apartment, cleared the air, and be back at the mansion before Asher even noticed he was gone.
Caspian paid attention to his surroundings, noting that the sun had set, artificial lights providing the brightness around.
"I’m fine," He said in a rush, although that wasn’t what Ashe had asked.
"Are you back home already? I’m with Peter and Keith..."
As Caspian spoke, he already started for the car, having to explain in detail to his mate what had happened and why he wasn’t home at the moment.
That was surprisingly the easiest part. He then had to talk Asher out of coming to pick him up in person.
His mate wasn’t having it, however, and Caspian had to keep him on the phone the entire trip back to the mansion.

Lake woke up with a slight jerk, dislodging Davian who was curled up around him.
The Alpha shot him a betrayed look, and again Lake was inclined to comfort him.
"Let me go for a moment, I need to shower," He said curtly, making a move to get out of Davian’s arms.
It couldn’t even be comfortable for Davian to stay like this, propped up against the headboard while curled up at an odd angle to make sure he was wrapped around Lake completely.
Lake wasn’t surprised when the Alpha’s arms tightened around his waist, he was more exasperated, like a person over their pet’s antics.
"If I wanted to leave, I’d be gone already." He said impatiently.
They were both a mess, the bed too. It was the reason he couldn’t sleep even though he felt like he had been put through a wringer.
Lake didn’t have the energy to indulge Davian anymore, at least, not before he had gotten some proper sleep.
"So don’t give me a reason to do that," He felt a little bad resorting to threats but it got Davian to release the iron-like grip he had around him.
Lake got off the bed with a stumble, needing to use the wall to hold himself upright to the bathroom, grumbling the entire way there about pouting Alphas who didn’t know how to hold back.
