Chapter 272: -Chapter 272-

Jael had to leave after lunch, dragging Asher along with him and leaving Caspian all alone.

Caspian didn’t mind, laughing at his mate’s protests and getting both men to promise to be home early for dinner.

Asher wasn’t pleased to be dragged back to work right after their return from their trip but that only spurred Jael on.

Caspian returned to the bedroom alone, settling on the couch with a sigh.

It was late in the afternoon so Asher and Jael would only be away for a few hours.

The curtains were open slightly to let sunlight in and this right here was what he had been looking forward to while he was in Moonstone.

The comfort that Asher brought, as well as the mansion that was now his home and everyone in it.

His plans to shower with Asher had been interrupted by Jael so they had to wash up separately.

But there were so many days ahead of them when they would get to shower together, they would be fine.

There was also a wedding to prepare for and it made him jittery. Sure, he had been married before but that had been nothing but a farce.

As Caspian sat on the couch, the television screen surprisingly dark, there was a niggling thought at the back of his mind, about something he was forgetting to do...

Lake!

He had almost completely forgotten to call the other Omega!

He shot to his feet then, he had planned to text Lake to let him know he was back but he wanted to call his friend, and if possible check up on him.

Lake hadn’t sounded like himself on the call and it had Caspian worried, he couldn’t believe he forgot to reach out to him.

Caspian walked to get his phone, making mental calculations. If Lake was up for it, he was sure he could quickly drop in right away.

The call rang and dropped without an answer making him frown. He felt a chill in his spine as he tried calling the second time and got the same response.

Caspian wouldn’t have thought anything of it if they hadn’t had a conversation in the morning where Lake sounded off.

He would have just written it off as the Omega being asleep or held down by something else in any other situation.

But not getting a response from Lake made him nervous, he walked over to the window, deep in thought.

Should he just drop in on Lake without calling ahead? He was worried that would upset Lake but Lake being upset wouldn’t matter much if the Omega needed his help in some way.

That made up his mind for him, lifting his phone to contact someone else.

Keith picked up instantly, and he could hear the Beta stumbling around as they spoke, no doubt getting ready.

Caspian also needed to get ready because Keith had said that he would be at the mansion with Peter in a short while.

He tried not to let his thoughts get the best of him as he dressed up to leave the mansion.

He would probably get to Lake’s house to find the Omega asleep, but that would be the best scenario so he was looking forward to that outcome.

"You’re going to pay Lake a visit?" Peter asked as he held open the door for him.

Keith got comfortable in the passenger seat, a classic look of disapproval on his face when Lake’s name was mentioned.

It made Caspian smile a little, "Yeah," He answered, "I’m a little worried about him," He said honestly, thinking that it was probably best to give his bodyguards a heads up.

Keith completely turned around in the front seat to join the conversation. "What’s wrong with Lake?"

For someone who had a one-sided beef with the other Omega, he was really unsettled by Lake potentially not being okay.

"Nothing," Caspian said absently, "I hope. He’s not picking his calls though so I want to see him in person."

Their trip shouldn’t take long, he would just show up, say hi at the door and leave.

He was already pushing boundaries by showing up to the Omega’s house unannounced, he didn’t want to be a nuisance.

The trip there didn’t taking long, Keith stepping on the gas. Even though he hadn’t said much about Lake, the tense silence in the car was a clear indication that they were all worried about him.

Caspian tried Lake’s phone a couple more times in the car, the worry lines on his forehead deepening each time the call went unanswered.

He looked out the window at the colorful sky, hoping once again that this was all a misunderstanding.

After lunch, they moved to a nearby living room, the three of them sitting solemnly like they were awaiting a tragic piece of news.

Savannah stayed silent the entire time, refusing to contribute to the conversation after her mom suggested murder.

She couldn’t get up and leave however, that would upset her mom, but she also really didn’t want to be here.

She didn’t mind doing most of the things her mom asked her to but there were certain things she drew the line at.

Murder, was one of them.

Matilda’s green eyes were slits as she spoke in quiet tones to Arthur who was seated beside her.

This was the sole reason she had any iota of respect for the butler. He was exactly like her, they would do anything for their goals.

"Getting the drugs in their meal is the easy part," Arthur replied to her, a focused look in his muddy brown eyes.

"That’s all I need you to do," Matilda smile slow, "You can leave the rest to me."

"There are still some things we need to consider," Arthur frowned, he couldn’t risk this failing.

Not because he was bothered about the repercussions as covering up their tracks would be extremely easy, but because he absolutely did not want to fail."...like what if Lake doesn’t take the bait and refuses to eat?"
