Chapter 260: -Chapter 260-

Lake woke up bleary, unaware of what the time was but knowing well that it was late.

He had woken up several times during the day, barely getting something to eat before going right back to bed.

He really wanted to believe that he was sleeping so much because his immune system was working double time...

But he knew better...

As he stumbled to the bathroom to splash some water on his face, familiar soft brown eyes staring back at him in the mirror...

He knew...

His scent hadn’t changed, and there was no physical difference but call it instinct because Lake could already tell he was pregnant.

Davian curled up on his side on his bed, in physical pain as he denied his body’s demands, teeth gritted.

Now that he was in the middle of a lengthy and decidedly nasty rut, Davian couldn’t help but bask in the reasons he had chosen to remain on inhibitors for the longest time.

His entire body had the sensation of pins and needles, his head felt like it was filled with cotton, and his dick hurt.

It was like his first rut all over again, the complete lack of control disorienting.

It had been tolerable all afternoon, he had even been able to take naps in between cold showers but now it just hurt.

The arousal was barely there beneath all of the discomfort, a sudden wave of craving pulling him under.

He suddenly wanted honey lemon tea with a painful intensity, and he didn’t even drink tea.

But Davian knew that it had nothing to do with actual tea, he should know, he had had Arthur prepare it several times that day.

It was Lake or nothing...

And it was almost like his entanglement with the Omega was the reason his rut was so bad.

The first thing he had done with Doctor Perez was discuss alternative options to enduring all three or more days of his excruciating rut.

And the doctor had immediately shut down alternatives, so being knocked out during his rut wouldn’t fix things.

It would just drag out his rut for much longer which was honestly a far more cruel fate.

It was going to be a long fucking night...

Lake woke up the next morning, completely sick of beds. It added up, considering that he had slept away the entirety of yesterday.

The first thing he noticed was the change in his scent, it was softer and sweeter, the honey notes in his scent standing out the most.

He sat at the edge of the bed and placed his head in his hands, the possibility of this hadn’t so much as crossed his mind.

He wasn’t as surprised as he should have been about it, and that was because he already knew before he slept off the night before.

It was a miracle he hadn’t woken up in the middle of the night with how disruptive his day had been.

But it was almost like his body had spent the entirety of yesterday preparing for the abrupt changes that were about to happen.

His first thought was to panic because he hadn’t gotten a chance to the night before.

A child had never been a life plan of his, his life was bad enough, he had no intention of making his child go through that.

But yet here he was, marked and pregnant by none other than Mafia King Davian.

His first thought then was that he needed a cup of coffee but he stopped as soon as he had that thought.

Was coffee fine when you were pregnant? He knew next to nothing...

The panic was back again, worse than the first time. Lake had to sit on the floor next to his bed and put his head between his knees to stave off a panic attack.

He was responsible for another life, and he didn’t even know what he wanted to do with his.

Lake rocked himself back and forth, sinking further down into despair as the morning got brighter.

His phone ringing snapped him out of it, making him get up with a start to pick up his phone.

"Lake! Hi!" Caspian’s cheery voice came through the phone. "Did I wake you up?"

"Not really," Lake replied, trying to hide the raw emotion in his voice.

He was ass at doing it though because Caspian immediately figured him out.

"Are you alright? What’s wrong?"

"Just haven’t had my morning coffee yet," Lake tried to brush aside his inquiries but his trembling voice was a dead giveaway.

Caspian didn’t push further after that, he must have figured out that whatever it was Lake didn’t want to talk about it.

Lake appreciated the Omega’s tact, he was still coming to terms with his new situation, and he wasn’t ready to talk about it yet.

"You sounded excited about something, good news?" He shamelessly changed the conversation.

Caspian went with it, his excitement much muted this time, and it made Lake feel a tad guilty for ruining the atmosphere.

"I’m actually on my way back to Haines," Caspian said sheepishly, "I wanted to surprise you a little."

"Thank you, Caspian," Lake said gratefully, his tone too heavy for the lighthearted conversation they were having.

"Are you sure you’re alright?" Caspian couldn’t help but ask again.

"Of course," Lake reassured him, his eyes filling up. "We should definitely have another lunch date, now that you’re back."

"Absolutely," Caspian said with a quiet smile of his, "I’ll text you when I get home."

Lake stared at his phone when the call, tears spilling down his face.

He wiped at them frantically, crying wasn’t his thing, it was nothing but a beacon of weakness, attracting predators.

He had to come to a decision, right away.

He might still not know what he planned to do but the one thing he knew for sure was that he wasn’t going to let his child go through the same things he did.

And that was saying a lot considering he hadn’t even decided if he would be keeping the baby or not.
