When they got to the bedroom, Caspian was finally awake, a sour expression on his face as Asher gently tucked him into bed.

"What’s wrong?" Asher asked, cupping his heated face.

"My head hurts," Caspian complained, his lips turning down, big eyes filled with tears.

Asher immediately panicked, ordering the in-house doctor to come right down to attend to him.

Jael stood in a corner of the room, pacing like it was a life-or-death defining surgery.

And it might as well be because Caspian was sniffling and tearing up while the doctor checked him over.

Which was grounds for a mild panic because the Omega rarely cried.

The doctor prescribed some drugs for him, but what would help him heal quickly would be lots of bed rest.

"Just stay in bed and make sure to stay hydrated, and you should feel better in a couple days." The doctor said, nervously wiping away sweat although it was a cool evening.

Caspian’s response was a miserable whimper while the doctor quickly made himself scarce, alarmed by the dark looks of disapproval the boss kept shooting at him.

The Omega’s sniffles turned into a full-blown sobbing session when it was time to eat so he could take his drugs.

Asher shared nervous looks with Jael who wisely kept his distance, worried about Caspian but wise enough to not try to interfere.

He lifted his hands in a gesture that showed that Asher had to deal with his mate himself, he was just there for moral support.

"Hey, hey, baby, it’s okay, but you need to eat to get better..."

Caspian’s eyes were puffy from crying, his nose siren-level red. "My throat hurts," He said in turn, their brief exchange triggering more tears.

Asher looked helplessly at Jael who sighed walked over, crouching on the other side of the bed.

"Caspian?"

"Hmm?" He answered, his voice watery as he reached for the box of napkins on the bed beside him to blow his stuffy nose.

"Is there anything you think you can eat-"

"Popcorn," Caspian sniffled, answering before Jael could even get all of his words out.

"Yeah, no- anything else?" He corrected quickly, "Something easy on your sore throat."

Caspian gave him a look, an expression of complete distaste on his face. "You said anything."

That was Jael’s cue to back out of the conversation before he derailed the situation any further.

Asher muttered a curse under his breath, Jael had just worsened things - he knew he shouldn’t have asked him for help.

"Baby? If you eat the soup, you can have popcorn," He attempted to bribe his mate, ignoring the aghast look on Jael’s face.

His offer caught Caspian’s attention, his eyes tired. "I can?"

Popcorn was probably not the best thing to eat while he had a sore throat but if that was what Asher needed to agree to so that he would eat and take his drugs, he would.

"Sure, but you’ve got to finish the entire bowl," He gambled.

The kitchen had made a very healthy bowl of chicken soup, to help him get the required liquids as well as nutrients.

"Deal," Caspian agreed easily.

And as he ate the steaming bowl of soup while wincing - not from the heat of the food but from his hurt throat - Asher hoped that he would be too full for any popcorn.

"I’ll have the kitchen prepare the popcorn," Jael walked over to him to whisper when he saw how quickly Caspian was putting away the soup.

He had thought that the Omega would be too sick to have an appetite, but apparently even a cold wasn’t enough to stop him from eating.

"Yeah, thanks," Asher muttered absently, too focused on Caspian to pay full attention to Jael’s words.

By the time Jael got back, Caspian was already fast asleep, a healthy glow to his face as clung tightly to Asher’s arm.

"Good thing you’re back," Asher whispered to Jael when the Beta showed up.

He had planned to do some cleaning up after Caspian was asleep, but his mate had held tightly to him and refused to let go.

"Jesus Christ, did you drug him?" Jael said in disbelief, refusing to believe that Caspian had fallen asleep on his own.

"I didn’t. I’ll give him midnight at most for him to wake up demanding for his popcorn."

Jael lips twitched at that, clearing out the room while Asher got into bed with Caspian who still held him desperately.

"Good luck, man."

Asher didn’t respond, cradling Caspian close although the heat from his body was uncomfortable.

Caspian didn’t wake up at midnight fortunately, he didn’t wake up at all till it was morning.

His fever had completely broken, and he was visibly less prone to tears than he had been the night before.

"Why are you so close to me?" Caspian complained first thing after he woke up, disapproval in his eyes, his voice still hoarse.

"How do you feel?" Asher asked in turn, ignoring his words.

"Upset, if you come down with my cold." Caspian said bluntly.

Asher didn’t hide his smile, not mentioning the fact that Caspian had clung to him the entire time he had been asleep.

"I don’t fall sick," He proclaimed confidently, pressing a kiss to Caspian’s forehead before slipping out of bed.

Caspian had a fond smile on his face as he watched him because he knew that Asher definitely did fall sick.

He grimaced at the taste in his mouth and the residual headache he still had, his sore throat and the memories of last night were still fresh in his head.

It had been so long he had fallen sick that he had forgotten about how much crying was involved whenever he fell sick.

And for the second night in a row, he hadn’t even thought about his plans to upgrade his nightwear, it was almost like fate was telling him not to do it.

But when had he ever listened to fate?

If he had, his mate wouldn’t be walking out of their bathroom, toweling his hair dry with a smile for him.
