Chapter 187: +Chapter 187+

Caspian’s heart rate picked up without warning, and even as Asher pressed kisses into his hair, he hoped that the Alpha wouldn’t hear it.

"We should probably not be late for dinner," He blurted out after a few more excruciating minutes of that.

At the start, he had been ready to stay curled up in Asher’s arms for an eternity, and now he needed to not be alone in a room with him.

Asher didn’t act like there was anything out of order and it made him all the more uneasy, finding it difficult to relax in his hold when the Alpha carried him back to their shared bedroom.

He sat on the edge of his bed with his sharp nails digging into the palm of his hands, not hard enough to hurt but enough to distract him but his bubbling anxiety.

Should he bring it up then? Asher didn’t seem like he planned to, or had the Alpha actually forgotten?

Caspian ruffled his hair in frustration, he was no good at lying, even if this wasn’t exactly a lie.

Asher just hadn’t asked him yet, and he would do anything to find out why.

Asher stepped out of the bathroom while drying up with a towel, the Alpha gave off the aura of a declawed tiger, it was giving Caspian a bit of whiplash considering he had been running from him just a few hours ago.

Caspian should follow the Alpha into the closet but the anxiety pooling in his middle kept him rooted to the bed.

Asher wore a full pajama set when he stepped out of the closet, looking younger than his age with his fluffy hair.

It made a smile break out on Caspian’s face as he finally got to his feet, "Did you even brush your hair?" He asked fondly as he held onto the Alpha’s arm and led them out of the room.

"I’m just going to go to bed," Asher replied with an excuse, "It’s not like I have anywhere to be."

"A yes or no answer would have been enough," Caspian’s smile widened, his worries about Asher confronting him about the lingerie situation fading into the background.

They did come to the dining room to find Jael already eating, the Beta’s expression unapologetic as he stared up at them.

Halfway through the peaceful dinner, Caspian treacherous thoughts reminded him of the lingerie again.

Confronting Asher about it was starting to look like a better option than sitting and stewing in his thoughts.

But he didn’t, not when Jael excused himself from dinner to go on an evening drive, not when he returned to the bedroom with Asher.

Asher didn’t confront him either, or although it was still early in the night, they didn’t go to the sitting area like they normally did.

Instead, they went right for the bed, Caspian hung back while Asher got comfortable on the bed.

He was definitely reaching but the guilt clouded his reasoning; Caspian was certain that Asher would bring up the matter when they were settled in bed, and he couldn’t avoid it.

So, he suggested the oddest thing to postpone that moment for as long as he could.

"We should brush our teeth before bed," Caspian blurted out, shifting his weight from one leg to the other.

There was a flash of the usual side of Asher he got to see, not this cuddly, fluffy-haired, sleep bug.

The Alpha didn’t call him out on his bullshit though, getting up dutifully so they could go brush their teeth.

"Is there something on my face?" Asher asked harmlessly while they stood side by side at the bathroom sink.

"What?" Caspian took his toothbrush out of his mouth to ask.

While Asher had spoken with his mouth full of the bristles, his question unintelligible.

"You’ve been staring at me, is there paste on my forehead?" Asher took his toothbrush out to ask properly.

Caspian laughed as he rinsed out his mouth, drifting out of the bathroom without a response.

There had been no need for one, they had literally been standing in front of a wall-to-wall backlit mirror.

Asher was quick on his tail, but the Alpha didn’t ask any questions or even say a word when he returned to the bed.

Instead, he pulled Caspian into his arms when he finally got the Omega on the bed.

Caspian resigned himself to the inevitable, deciding that he would enjoy being close to Asher in the meantime, until the metaphorical axe dropped.

But silent minutes ticked by, and Asher still didn’t say anything, content to hold him.

Caspian had to lean back slightly to look at the Alpha’s face, and all he did was catch Asher looking at him with unabashed adoration in his eyes.

Despite his expectations, all that Caspian got was slow sensual kisses that held a faint taste of mint.

It was so out of character for them to lay in bed and kiss the evening away without taking it further.

Caspian couldn’t complain, his worries melting like the rest of his body from Asher’s kisses.

He expected to find Asher side of the bed empty the next morning, but it wasn’t, the Alpha was still in bed with him.

Asher was wide awake when he woke up, the Alpha watching him with a complete focus just like he had been doing the night before.

And once again, Caspian wished he could get in his head and read his thoughts.

Asher had lost his shirt sometime during their make-out session the night before, the hickeys and thin trails of red that Caspian’s nails had left behind standing out in stark relief against his tan skin.

"How did you sleep?" Asher asked gently, and Caspian really wanted to go right back to sleep.

With Asher laying there keeping watch on his, he would be able to instantly fall back asleep, but he was worried he would wake up to find him gone.

"Better than the past couple of nights you were away," He said lightly, pressing close to Asher side.

They rarely ever had quiet moments like this where they could just be two normal people in love.
