Chapter 171: +Chapter 171+

"I’ll oversee it of course, and I’m sure it’ll give the staff something to do than just feeding the three of us."

Now Jael turned around to look at Asher with alarm in his dark eyes, "You want to oversee it?" He repeated for clarification.

"Yes, so I need you to take back whatever you said to them about me." Caspian said doggedly.

"Right," He muttered, not about to go head-to-head with a determined Caspian.

Another unexpected smile overtook Caspian’s face, things were going so well for him that morning.

He couldn’t pinpoint what it was that made Asher and Jael so agreeable that morning, but he couldn’t complain.

Maybe they were coming to trust him, that made his happiness sink deeper than surface level.

Breakfast was filled with him discussing plans, he would need to keep track of the foodstuffs currently available and create an easy-to-understand file tracking how much was used.

So, he could give a report and be able to shop appropriately. He also needed to figure out just how many they would be feeding on average a day.

Caspian was too engrossed in his detailed plans to notice the looks Asher and Jael shot each other.

He didn’t even wait till noon to leave Asher, already hurrying to the kitchen as soon as breakfast was over.

Asher wore a scowl on his face as he watched this happen, it was just mid-morning, he still had a couple of hours until he had to leave the mansion.

Jael had a poker face on so he wouldn’t break into chuckles that would have Asher wielding his fork like a throwing knife.

He still needed his eyes, thank you very much.

"Might as well go in to work early?" He suggested, watching Asher’s reaction closely.

The Alpha shot to his feet with a dark look on his face, "Meet you outside in five."

That was the safest response Jael could have gotten, so he took it without complaints, getting to his feet as well.

Caspian asking to feed the men was something he hadn’t seen coming but it wasn’t as surprising as it should have been.

If anything, he was more surprised at how easily Asher had agreed to it even though the Alpha wasn’t exactly handling the consequences well.

Caspian had been so excited to get started, and Jael could imagine this was as much for him as it was for the men.

He wasn’t just half-assing it either, he was taking the entire ordeal so serious, it was difficult not to be convinced by his mission.

And another upside was that Asher’s foul mood was about to come in handy, if anyone was unfortunate enough to make themselves a nuisance, it would be the last time they would be doing that.

Caspian had gone right to the kitchens after eating, the kitchen was still bustling, dishes were being done, leftovers were being packed away.

So, for the first time, no one noticed his presence when he stepped into the kitchen, and he was able to watch them work at length.

Eventually a staff noticed him standing and shoved a towel into his hand, "Don’t just stand there, go help dry the dishes."

"On it," Caspian answered her.

The staff’s eyes bulged when she finally slowed down enough to properly take him in. "Oh no, oh my, I didn’t mean that." She said in a rush, trying to take the towel back.

Caspian knew that he wouldn’t be let to dry the dishes now that his identity was found out, so he handed the towel back to her.

The chef that often spoke to him walked over to him, "Is something the matter? Was the food not to your liking?"

"I’m pretty sure there’s not even a speck of food left on the dishes," Caspian reassured him.

The chef puffed out his chest, his words humble despite his actions. "You’re too kind."

"By the way, is there a head chef?" He asked, wanting to get to work right away.

The chef lost some of his composure at that, looking behind him at another chef.

"There’s not exactly a head chef," He answered quietly, back to being nervous. "But I’ve worked here the longest."

"That’s fine," Caspian said reassuringly, "How many chefs work in the kitchen?"

"Three," He generously gave answers, "There’s me, Scott. Roy over there," He gestured at the chef he had shared a look with earlier, "And Katya. She’s probably in the storage room."

"I’d like to have a word with the three of you," Caspian said in the kindest voice he could but it didn’t ease Scott’s nerves.

He would explain things a bit right there if he could, but it was a little complicated to explain everything to him in a few words.

Not to mention, it would be better if he spoke to all the chefs at once.

"Right, we’ll come find you when we’re all done here." He wiped his hands nervously on his apron as he spoke.

Caspian agreed to those terms, returning to the bedroom. The laptop that had been gotten for him on a whim would come in handy for his new job.

It wasn’t until he was half an hour into research the best way to keep records so that he would be able to draw accurate stats from them did he realize that Asher was gone.

He figured out that maybe the Mafia King had to leave earlier, he was busy anyway so he didn’t mind Asher’s absence as much as he usually would have.

Doing something so fulfilling gave him a purpose, he didn’t realize how much he actually needed a job until he got one.

The mansion had functioned for years without a butler so clearly the house staff didn’t need one, and he wasn’t trying to be a butler.

If anything, the duties he was about to take on was more similar to the ones his mom did as the Luna.

Well, the Pack House in question was a literally Mafia House but it didn’t change what he would be doing.
